Personally, most of the themes I'd like to see ported are usually picked up by Snidely and he does a great job picking out the very best to port over. I use them almost exclusively on my work system because I like to keep my interface as clean and un-obtrusive as possible.. But I agree, there is very little creativity in most of the XP styles, and that is simply a sign of the limitations placed on skins that use the XP skinning engine. I'll stick with WB myself!

Are you talking about a theme that you downloaded as an exe? Or are you simply referring to a theme downloaded from the DesktopX themes section of WC? I think I may have misunderstood you.. Personally, I think CursorXP is worth the money.. There haven't been any updates to it in ages that I know of but I also never have any problems with it and I'm not sure what else they would add to it.. Maybe you should hold off until you find which applications you really want to use. If there are e
ok, first I'm assuming you are talking about DesktopX and not DirectX which is a 3D programming API developed by Microsoft. 1) Right-click on the DX system tray icon and select Configure DesktopX, Select the DesktopX tab on the dialog that is displayed and make sure "Run DX on startup" is checked. This should solve the DX not running when you reboot problem. 2) I'm not sure if this is a problem, but I would think this is the behavior you would want 3) When you launch D
MickeyAce, I really don't think changing the type of memory will affect the CPU utilization. Unless the CPU is being used because you are running out of memory, in which case your hard-drive should be active also because it would need to dump items from memory into your disk cache. I would recommend starting with video card drivers. Have you installed the latest drivers for your video card on C2? Do the themes that cause this CPU usage have lots of objects that are transparent or semi-transparen
Of course, if someone else does the port for you and then they can't get permission from the Authors to distribute it you'll be no better off than you are now. It's not just a matter of someone doing this, they would also need the original authors permission to give it to you. So, you see the problem with having someone just do it for you? I've been looking for a reason to play with SkinStudio so I may give it a whirl but I wouldn't hold your breath as I rarely feel like messing around on my com
Well, to start with, don't worry about how much CPU services.exe is using because that is a Windows service and if you kill it there's no telling what you'll mess up. According to WinTasks here on my machine services.exe is the Windows Service Controller, so if that is eating a bunch of your CPU you may have a service that is mis-behaving. However finding it may prove to be a bit difficult. As for DX, does the CPU usage level off after a bit or is it constantly using that much CPU? What types of
I agree 100%!! TFT's are just not as crisp as a good CRT.. I've had my Sony GDM-FW900 for around 2 years now and even though I'm guaranteed a hernia should I need to move it again, I'll still never give it up. The fact that it supports resolutions of 2148X???? @ 70 Hz is another reason I'll never give it up. I currently run 1920X1200 @ 85Hz, let's see a TFT try that!! Most of them can't even do 1600X1200!! Gef, as with anything in life, it is your call but I think you will be most pleased if you
DC, I think it was kind of a these other people are having the same problems as me and when they asked they were ridiculed.. Anyway, no harm no foul, I know what you're talking about. Visualize whirled peas..
If they aren't in the OD section then it's quite likely they don't exist.. I don't recall seeing any but I don't check the OD section too often.
Glad I could help Lauren! If you need any more help feel free to ask. Hope you are getting your digital world customized to your liking!! [Message Edited]
i found it funny that the people who didnt actually read his post, answered the so called 'dumb questions' that he was not even posing. If you're implying that I didn't read his post you a simply wrong! I did read the post and I provided info that I thought would help. Don't go around ASSuming things you don't know to be true. ><img src="http://i
Hey Shameless... How does the TweakNow Powerpack work for you?? I tried it when it was relatively new and it wasn't really very useful.. Haven't tried it again since. Would you recommend it?
yah, which gfx card do you have and do you have the latest drivers.. I've seen quite a few posts about OD killing system performance but it runs like a champ on both my home and work PC's..
Very well put Shameless Designs! I just hope RN returns to get the help I *think* he was needing. It can be somewhat frustrating having to deal with different skinners uploading their skins in different ways but it's definitely much better here than at other skinning sites.. I remember back in the day having 3 different compression utilities installed just so I could uncompress the files that I downloded from various other skinning sites.. RN, I'm sure we'd all be more than happy to hel
well, if you're really needing to know how to dl skins here's the trick.. Use the download link below the preview of the skin you want to dl and select save. If the skin is associated with one of the programs you've installed it won't ask you where to save it it'll just do it's thing. In the case of WB you'll get a message that tells you skin X is installed and ready to use and you can select it from your Display Properties->Appearance tab. If it does ask you to save it there are a coup
Are you using the latest video drivers for your video card? Lots of WB problems can be fixed by making sure you are using the latest drivers.
I've been a subscriber to OD for 3 or 4 years and have never had problems with Stardock even trying anything that is even remotely underhanded.. The only problem I ever have is deciding which WB skin to use on a daily basis!! Welcome to WC!! You'll be a hopeless customizer of your PC in no time!
There's already a blue curve iconpackager theme.. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?searchtext=bluecurve&sort=updatedate&order=Descending&library=2
Well, I'm not a skinner but I have seen some pretty ridiculous ratings given out simply to make the person who made the skin feel better. And I've seen far too many debates about whether it is out of spite or out of honesty when someone rates a skin lower than the skinner would have preferred. Hopefully this will address these issues and people will see a rating as something to work for and not something that they deserve just because they spent the time to make a skin.. And while I don't really
How about these.. https://www.wincustomize.com/download.asp?SkinID=997&LibID=2
Since I avoid AOL like the plague I can't offer more than an educated guess, but here goes. If the version of AOL that you use has custom drawn windows you will need to do as digital_k suggested and create a per-app exclusion for it. This pertains to any app that draws it's own windows as WB will be unable to properly skin that app. WinAmp and Dreamweaver are two apps that I always exclude due to this issue. Good Luck!

if you're running DX you can use IconX to make it so that your icons disappear when your mouse is away from them and then re-appear when you mouse over them. of course if you forget where your icons are that could be a problem
yah, I have all of the Pixtudio suites and I love them all.. I've gone with Crystal by honz for the moment.
