Hi Folks - this is Colleen, Elie's other half.  I wanted to let those of you that know Elie, know that he is in the hospital in serious condition.  He has some sort of viral infection that has impacted all of his systems, including his brain.  I took him in Friday morning and he has been in the ICU since then.

For those of you that know and care for Elie, I ask for your prayers or other kind thoughts into the universe for his recovery.

I will try to post something again soon.  I apologize for the "public" forum, but the truth is, I don't really know how to use the blog, so this is the best I could do.

Thanks in advance for your positive thoughts for Elie.

And to have you as well! Seriously, if there is anything you need from far away people, let us know.  We cannot be there, but like you noted with Sabrina and Simon, perhaps we can help a little?

We're all still pulling for him, Colleen, and I know you are too. Be sure to take care of YOU, though, get some rest and be sure to nourish yourself, he's gonna need you fit and feisty when he wakes up.

Hi All - thanks for the prayers AND for the giggle.  I'm pretty sure that right now Elie is not concerned about points, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't know he was a point whore..

I know exactly where I left off in reading your posts to him - it was at 44.  If he doesn't wake up soon, I'll just have to go back and read them all over again.  You don't suppose I could be boring him to sleep, do you?

There has been no change in his condition.  All of his stats are stable, except the white blood cell count which continues to be high.  His fever has been holding between normal and 99.5.  He is still not conscious, however his ex-wife and I spent several hours harrassing him yesterday - I gave him a pedicure and shaved him while we talked to him and each other.  There was a little response when we called his name.  In fact, the best response I got was when I got right in his ear and said exactly what Sabrina said....Elie, wake the FUCK up!! His eyes opened and his eyebrow furrowed.  So, I know that he is in there - just need to find a way to get him OUT.  Today, I'm going to give washing his hair a shot.

If he cannot get more conscious on his own, in about 2 days they are going to do a tracheotomy as they don't like ventalating folks for more than 2 - 3 weeks.

So, let the prayers for his awakening and healing continue!  And thank you all for your continued love and support - AND your sense of humor

Colleen....tell Elie, the warrior from the east (drmiler) is praying for him every night. He's going to pull out of this. True warriors do not go out this way. And he is one of the truest I know. He has called and talked to me before and i hope and pray that he will again. Stay strong Colleen, you're his lifeline at this point.

Just a quick positive update.  Elie was fairly alert today almost all day long - able to focus on individuals that asked for his attention (unlike me who simply demanded it) responsive to nursing staff and even a hand squeeze or two.  We did get his hair washed.  That was a three person job.  Kind of an entertaining picture.  The nurse held up his head, I held the pan underneath it and washed and his ex wife fetched water and poured.

So, continued crossing of fingers and toes is appreciated and I will let you know how he improves over the week.  Baby steps.
