HI all, I decided to boot up GC after a while away - in anticipation of the expansion. Since I last played GC i have switched monitors. I now use a 1280x1024 LCD (befor ei had crappy 1024x768 CRT). MY problem is that GCs display area is shifted (uncentred) on my screen and a portion of the game area is off screen now. I could adjust the monitor controls; but then every other app/game would be in the same boat. I really hate having to fiddle with the display everytime

Goo dpoint daetrin. However my idea here is not so much that celebs have no right to speak is that they make two very presumptive ideas when they speak. 1) what they say has some greater inherent truth - based on the old Calvinist inspired notion that those who are successful have been imbued with some kind of greater grace and throught that a superior understanding that allows them "pass on the message" to the masses like Moses descending from the mount. 2) That through using

If there is one thing I am asick of is celebrities speaking out about thei rtopic of teh day on teh grounds thay have some sort of social responsibility to do so. hey jusy because you are rich and famous doesnt mean you a) voice b) opinion c) intelligence is better than that of anyone else. What celebs say has no mor eand no less value than that of the avegare joe. the only reason difference is they get air time. Indeed IMHO celebs usually are so removed from reality; by nature of their wealth a

Thsi stack thread reminded me on of one possible solution. Anyone remeber Civ CTP /CTP II ; individual and stacks existed side by side but the combat was nicely resolved (as in any civ game) on unit by unit basis (witha rtillery given range). Thsi would be a good set up for GC (different sized ships in different rows etc (ie fighetrs/ destroyers/BBD and DR). heavy ships would do the "arty" thing as well has regular combat (when in front). dawg

Starvald. Exactly. I had the same problem. Mk31. Yes indeed a good point I forgot about that BOTF feature; it would work well. The one minor addition to this could also be putting in the following; 1) Allowing the user to create their own ship prefix on the options screen (Ie instead of USS into UFP, UTE, PCU, TLC..etc) :) 2) A bit more but adding a suffix after the automated name that denote sits class (two letters0.. ie DD, BB, FT..etc) that way we'll have random s

I agree it could get big. By no-means do i recommend removing the current naming system; it could still be used once "custom" names run out. However, for those of us who dont play gigantic maps it would be a welcome feature. Indeed if stardock implemeted this with say only 1-20 names; but make it expandable by users, i'd be more than happy to add 800 names on my own. :) dawg

To Brad & Co. Would it be possible, in teh future, if you could make ship automated ship names more colourful. It would be nice if ships had random names assigned based on .txt file similar to what is done for stars. "battleze 534" just doesnt evoke as much passion as say "Andromeda" "Enterprise" ..etc; while I know we can change individual ship names willy-nilly manually it would be nice to have this automated bit such that the game would do it for you so you have a bit m

Vridian: as far as we know; Beka didnt make it all the way due to the Flash. We know the Vedrans ARE there and they know what Hunt is doing; Admiral Uxledila (sp?) the Vedran did appear on Andromeda. :) (Curses on Global Ontario for their horrible scheduling of season 3) dawg

More comments weber . - yes he's doen the Honor Harrington series. Its not bad but pretty simplistic and getting repetitive. However his technical detail stands our among sci-fi for its good capital ship battles. Overall though the plots are pretty thin. Mr. Pink Just call me gramps. Seriosuly most of those names are from various sci-fi. Hoth = Empire strikes back (film) Galifrey (Dr. Who) Coruscant (Just about every SW film/book/comic) Ceti Alpha (star trek

Actually a TARDIS is not a teleporter (in the classical sense). Its quite multifaceted idea. It moves in both time and space and has a 5th D (thats why its bigger inside) (indeed some have hypothiszed that a tardis is infinte / and realy more of plane/dimesnion in its own right (mathematical) than a vehicle). If you want to get picky in terms of language the term tele-porter is valid but its much more than that. In nut sheel (IIR from Dr.Who i saw years ago.) TARDIS: (time and relat

Daetrin Try the videssos series; it was among his first (and arguably his best work- Start with the Misplaced Legion). I will look into Stirling Thanx. yes Baxter, Brin and Zelany are very good. Also worth reading a K S Robinson's mars trilogy (not high sci-fi but great depth) coffee The deities from the ancient times have always been associate dwith the stars in one way or another. No surprises there :) re betelgeuse (Skink). OOps you're right. Serves me right for

Wow nice thread.. my .02 1) Betelgeuse. Its also a real star name for what its worth, on Orion's belt (no MiB rimshots please :)) 2) Tolkien. he may have not been the first to create some of the ideas but he was imho the first to synthesize the idea of pseudo medieval world out all the disparate elements into what we commonly refer to as high fantasy -- our and its derived achetypes (from novels, D&D to cheesy films). What is most imporatant is that his writing made the idea o
