Well I 2 lost my second job due to lay offs this year. I will be in a good light though when the dust settles because I always budgeted for if I did lose my job I could still pay my bills for about 6 months or so without losing anything.... To be honest I am actually not feeling bad for people that are in a mess. The one thing you never do is over extend which is exactly what people did. Now the jobs are going away, and they have no means of supporting themselves or bei

Given that Obama has made it apparent he will let the tax cuts enacted by Congress expire; thereby increasing taxes for everyone (well I suppose those not paying taxes won't see an increase), can one assume he will simultaneously or perhaps pre-emptively lower tax rates on all but the 'rich' to not only offset the increased tax burden as a result of expired cuts but to also lower those rates even further
Granted the economy is tanking, but that is no reason for Obama to back down on increasing the tax rate on those above 250k income. Nevertheless, to avoid further roiling the market, he should do it in increments of 1% until Bush's increase expires in 2010. It would be ridiculous for a new president to allow himself to be intimidated by Wall Street's thugs and economic pundits. The wealthy need to invest regardless of the rate. And as for capital gains,

That's exactly what Detroit needs to recover: the benefit of government central planning. I've been thinking about this - while long term central planning has historically been a recipe for disaster, how do you deal with a situation where badly managed companies need(?) to be bailed out part

So to say that those companies can afford to spend 30% less on labor because of government "help" is flatly wrong; their circumstances are the same as those in question.
Yep most all cars bought in the US are made in the US.

Where as the Japansese US autoworkers cost about 94K per worker a year...and then we wonder WHY the cars cost so much from Checy ect ect and the Jap cars are cheaper...even when its the US workers making the cars.
most of these workers would get their jobs back, albeit possibly not the same money they got paid previously. That is really the key. We already have a bailout program for the big 3. It is called Chapter 11. But when a company files Chapter 11, all its contracts become null and void and have to be renogiated. This is not a bail out of the Big 3, but of the UAW. They cringe at the thought of losing their contr

What did I do? after i got the permanate lay off notice i was on the phone and withen a week or 2 I was working full time. Granted it was not a proud job, but it got me off the UI that i was to get...to be honest i am thankful that i have not used more than 3 weeks of UI because I am still a temp, and I may get layed off yet again, so Ill have it now that there are litterally no jobs in my area.
