In a way the GOP does control congress, as long as they tacitly endorse Bush by ensuring that legislation cannot get past the veto margin of 60%, they control the fate of Congress. Republicans have a vetted interest in protecting Bush, even if it means we continue on the same destructive policies. Sorry but that dog won't hunt. By your standards, the democrats have controlled congress all the time it was being led by the GOP. </

The problem as I see it is there has been no distinction between the war on terror and the war in Iraq. Iraq is now a hotbed of terrorist activity because we have given them an easy target. They can now kill Americans on a daily basis. It has been proven that any ties that Iraq had in terrorism were at worst turning a blind eye.

Iowa has its share: "A man with a moustache may never kiss a woman in public." Guess the kiss cam at the local baseball game has to go. "Kisses may last for no more than five minutes." I suppose this is a safety issue so they will come up for air. "Ministers must obtain a permit to carry their liquor across state lines." Ok, I'm lost on this one entirely. But some of the laws quoted don't seem so stupid to me: "It is a violation of the law to sell or di

Interesting take. From what I saw of the debates Tancredo seemed like a hotheaded loon with his proposal that even legal immigrants not be allowed into the country for two years. I was glad to see McCain stand up to his bullying ways. On the Democratic side the loon in the fold seems to be Sen. Gravel. Its almost like Zell Miller has entered the field with him in the race, only Gravel is to the far left of the party. One thing I do not like about the primary process is that to win can

It doesn't give amnesty to gang members. Background checks will be made to root out the criminal element, and they will be deported. There is a lot of propoganda being put out about what this bill does or doesn't do. It doesn't do a service to anyone to be spewing out misinformation. This bill is stuck on one thing, the notion that illegal immigrants are being given amnesty. They are not. They being asked to pay a heavy fine for their activities and to go through a lengthy process that wou

That is wrong, Gordon. The bill separates out those who are in the criminal element and seeks to deport them. Background checks will be done.

Little whip, I'm not sure I understand why it is costing so much money to complete your forms. I myself have brought a wife over on a fiance visa, married and got eventual citizenship for my wife at a fraction of what you say it costs. The highest payment I had was the tickets to bring her and her son here. I paid hundreds on my end to get the visa and then was surprised to hear that she also had to pay hundreds through the consulate, sort of like being double billed. Its been nowhere nea

A certain amount of realism has to creep into this debate. While I certainly agree that there should be a crackdown on businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants, the business of fake papers is booming. Many of these papers won't pass increased scrutiny, but businesses are not set up to do background checks to find if these papers are legit or not, nor should they be. Facts have been skewed on this argument for so long its hard to know even the facts. The Wall Street Journal, a pro

Webmasters are useful because they can allow you to have TV ads for continuous use throughout the game. You are not effecting just one state, but the whole country. Place TV ads for the two most important swing states and watch the electorate turn your way. You can start running newspaper ads in small states where you are behind and radio ads in the larger states. With $600+K rolling in each turn, you can run ads to victory. 40 capital will not get you all of the endorsements, only 4 fro

Third party candidates do not fare well because the parties are unwilling to put in the efforts to win at the lower levels of government but they DO win at lower levels in some places, where the organization is good and the people involved are active beyond rhetoric and lame "demonstrations." it is only at he national level where the playing field is fixed against them. but as long as the commission on peresidential deb

Bush is the same guy that he was in 2004 when Republicans still claimed him vociferously. He still has a high approval rating amongst Republicans. What they didn't understand was that the same things he was doing during the first term would continue. Only the Republicans and some optimistic independents thought it otherwise. The same problems that plagued his administration in 2004 are still there and he has taken the same role. So why do some Republicans choose to back away from him now wh

State rights?! Having legislators elect our president?! Why should citizens give up their direct voting to further politicize the process? In essence legislators already elect the president to a large degree. The nomination process is controlled by the state parties, which is in turn controlled by state legislators. Getting rid of the electoral system would mean that areas like New York and Los Angeles control the election. In 2000 Gore won the popular vote mostly on the fact tha

To those who oppose the bill, the problem still exists. To simply oppose it saying that it legalizes illegal immigration is simply isn't looking at the bill. To get to the point of getting a valid green card the process takes years, involves a heavy fine and attempts to weed out the criminal element. Do those idiots really believe we can just deport 12 million people? The other end of the coin is the Wall Street Journal who cite the economic benefits of immigration. Blindness in the form

Anybody watch the Republican debate? They didn't read it either. Its been pretty well proven that all the reasons for going to war have been proven false except perhaps to get Saddam out of power. If kicking a dicatator out is your reason to go to war, then we have a lot more countries to invade.

Who is or who is not included in the game is irrelevant as long as the ability to create new candidates is maintained. My game includes tons of other candidates that are, IMO, accurately depicted. It includes all the major party candidates going back to 1928, candidates from the 19th century, and even Canadian candidates, and some candidates who did not win their party's nomination.

Today marks the 39th anniversary of the death of Robert F. Kennedy. I often wonder how different history would be had he not been gunned down by Sirhan Sirhan on the previous evening. Ironically Sirhan claims he had to kill Kennedy for his support of Israel in the six day war of the previous year, which had begun exactly one year before he pulled the trigger. There is no record of RFK having made any support. In his eulogy to his late brother Edward Kennedy said with a breaking voice

Considering the last time a 3rd party candidate got any electoral votes was 1968, I think any sim that would have them win 38 is way off base. In '68 Wallace took 46 electoral votes, all in the south. He won 12% overall but I don't think he got hardly any votes outsed the south, if he was even on the ballot elsewhere. It was a symbolic run because he could not possibly win the election. In 2000 Nader was a spoiler by getting 2.7% of the total vote, but no electoral votes. He made the dif

Third party candidates do not fare well because the parties are unwilling to put in the efforts to win at the lower levels of government. To win mostly uncontested elections is not a real barometer of party support. Third parties do not want to put in their dues. They want to win the Presidency and complain when they're left out of debates when they haven't won a single congressional seat or even come close to winning one. They are not willing to build from the grass roots level.

Who was responsible for prosecuting Berger? A. The justice department run by Dubyahco. Perhaps the reason he was not prosecuted was that he was deemed not guilty. Perhaps the administration discovered the only reason they could persue it was for political gain, a true abuse of their power. For him to let Libby off would be for political gain.

Wow. So a man who was President for four years over 26 years ago set us on a course which could not be reversed? What about Reagan after the bombing of our barracks in Lebanon? What about Bush Sr. when Saddam was kicking things up in Iraq only to be let off the mat when it was decided we did not have the authority to take Iraq when we actually had support from other Arabic countries (unlike now). Since Carter left office there have been Republican presidents for all but eight years. Did Dub

What a load of huey. Walter Cronkite a traitor?! Most do not share your stilted version of reality, unModerateman. Given the political and military situation the war was unwinnable. The North Vietnamese did not care how many they lost. They had no military infrustructure that we could bomb. They used supplies from the Chinese and Russians, used routes obscured by the thick jungles for their supply lines, and depended on the fact that we could not attack them without bringing the other supe

First off you have to have the same edition as the person you are playing. Go into the join multiplayer game section and have one of the players create the game. You may need to hit the refresh button to see them. There is a chat there so you can discuss it ahead of time. During the game hit t to talk.
