All skins on this site must be used in conjunction with their respective applications. For example, a skin with a .dxtheme extension must be used with DesktopX. Here is a complete list. I'm kind of picky about what is in my registry also. Although, I tend not to trust the programs that automatically search the registry for me. Regcleaner http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml will sort your registry and then present you with a list of things that can be safely deleted.

I'm not sure why your icons won't change. I just double checked mine and they are not the default icons, so I know that they do change. Have you tried the Stardock support newsgroup yet? Someone there may have an answer.

Boxxi, Yes, it did take a while, but with the number of threads all asking the same question, I figured it was a worthwhile project. Feel free to use it. I have sent a copy to the mailbox that you have listed under your profile.

OTS = Open Theme Standard. It is an attempt to make the process of installing LiteStep and themes easier. You can download it here - http://www.litestep.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=21 and get a lot of good reading here - http://www.beyondconvention.net/ohussain/

Have you tried the OTS installer? It pretty much holds your hand during the install, so it shouldn't be a problem. LiteStep takes some time to understand as it is not as simple as DesktopX, but once you understand what you are doing, the posibilities for customization are incredible. My advice is to read as much as possible.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing this happen. I have been going by the nickname "Shakey" since the mid-80's, but when I first signed up here, that nick was already taken, so I had to add the "(The Original)" bit after it.

These forums are basically to discuss skins and skinning. If you want to discuss the applications used behind the skins, then perhaps the newsgroups would be a better forum. They can be found at news.stardock.com.
