I also have XP, but wouldn't buy another operating system just to use a software package. I can see not offering support for older OS's, such as Wndows 95 (which incidentally, I still run on one system, with only LiteStep as my sole customization), but 98, ME and 2000 are still quiet common on desktop systems. So, I also voted for #2.

I have thought about switching to the United Devices client, but after over 3 years of work using SETI (26,571 hours logged), I just can't seem to break away.
I run SETI and have never experienced this sort of problem. I know all to well that different things can happen on different systems, but I have never personally had any issues with SETI causing problems on my computer.

The 'Print Screen' function does indeed work well with XP Home. I use it very frequently to take screen shots while playing Battlefield 1942. Just press the 'Print Screen' button, open MS Paint (unless you have a more advanced paint application), click on 'Edit' and then 'Paste'.
Universe Metal. I just find it the most relaxing on my eyes.
You can use DreamRender http://www.dreamrender.com/ . While it doesn't actually replace the shell, it does animate your desktop. It's pretty easy on resources as well. I use it all of the time, next to Object Desktop, it is my favorite piece of customization software. If you're after something free, then you could try Drempel's http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/ .
I just upgraded to 1 GB not long ago. I was at the local Best Buy and they had 512 MB's for $49, so I had to get it. Great for gaming.

I never talk on a cell phone while driving, because I don't have a cell phone. People ask "well, what if we need to get a hold of you?" and I tell them "Leave a message on my machine at home and I'll get in touch when I get it!". I, personally, would support a full ban of cell phones in vehicles unless it is an emergency situation and only then if you are pulled of on the side of the road.

You're welcome, Koasati. I'va always been happy with XP-Antispy. Just for the record, Messenger, even when turned off from starting at startup will slow down the opening of Outlook (it performs a check against Messenger when starting). Hippy, gpedit is only available in the Pro version of XP though.
