What are you going to name your star?

What are you going to name your star?

Might as well fill this space up with 'useless' topics  ^_^ ;P

So what are you going to name your star and what's the reason for that name (if any) ?

I'm going to name my star 'Emmen'. It's my hometown, lived here all my life and am proud of it even though most Dutch people would call it a dump.

Edit; why is this topic showing up in the General GC3 subforum? I posted it in the GC3 Founders subforum.

I think I'll name mine Aos Si. It's a name for a supernatural race in Irish and Scottish mythology. Hopefully a planet with a minor race will be found orbiting it. :D

Well in the spirit of screwing up Christmas I'm debating whether to name my star Krampus!

I'd say "Dumhed" but somehow I think they will not accept it.

I have no idea. Or rather I have too many ideas so will have to pick one.

Hoxmier. Sounds like it could even be a real star name..

Sovereign - Massive Mass Effect fan and it would fit well for a Red Giant star with some special attribute.

I tip my hat off to you, sir, that bloody brilliant idea!

P.S. Anyone wish to name his "Cerberus"?

If only we could have custom names for our stars AND their planets...

Something with Ilos would be great.

Widow - if not taken, that is where the citadel is.

Omega 4 - I know, not a star, but a reference to the core of the galaxy and the collector base

Tuchanka (star called the Krogan DMZ xD)

Apien Crest - home of the awesome Turians

In fact, I would call upon Mass Effect fans to unite, so we each select one name from a collection of significant locales from that universe.

ERHM HRM! Sir, you did not specify the stars! Now to act shallow and pedantic!

Refuge

Omega 4 - I know, not a star, but a reference to the core of the galaxy and the collector base

Sahrabarik and Tartarus Debris Field

Tuchanka (star called the Krogan DMZ )

Aralakh

Apien Crest - home of the awesome Turians

Trebia

Maskirovka - Deception, as you never will be able to tell whats coming from there next.

Maskirovka in russian doesn't mean deception, it means disguise. Obman is deception.

Anyway, I have an original idea, I think. But I wonder, if they allow using symbols in names? Would an underscore kill? I could then actually use an alien sounding name. I wish I could also control, what will be on that planet...

In that case it's better to name them Komarov, Grissom, White, Chaffee, Volkov, Dobrovolsky, Patsayev, Scobee, Smith, McNair, Onizuka, Resnik, Jarvis, McAuliffe, Husband, McCool, Anderson, Ramon, Chawla, Brown, Clark...

To be honest, I hope Stardock will add those names, not because I'm greedy and I want to use my "plank" for some other name, but because I can use only one name, and I think we need to honour those people at least in this "primitive" way.

Oh definitely, thou hast the knowledge, but I do slightly doubt that everybody will know the names of the stars, which only feature in the upper-sumthin corner, when you go there, whereas the planets come up many times. Tuchanka and Ilos would definitely be recognised instantly. If we could also name planets, that would be the best of all words. And I really think we should be able to (perhaps once you've taken over that particular solar system only).

Do you think the devs would accept "Flatulanus"?

If not though, I think I'd stick with naming it "Sede Purpureas" after that Purple Couch from Douglas Adams' "Life, The Universe, And Everything".

Bonus points to Stardock if they make the star purple as well.

Edit: Of course I have no idea if Sede Purpureas actually means Purple Couch in Latin, but this is what Google Translate gave me and it sounds legit so I'm good. (Besides I happen to know that "purpurowy" in Polish translates into a purple-looking colour and that "sedes" is something like Polish slang in certain areas for toilet. In other words, I'm also fine with having named a star the Purple Toilet.)

When I did a search for "Purpureas" I got an entry in WikiPedia for a purple flower that appears in eastern North America

As to what Douglass Adams meant when he added "Sede" in front of Purpureas, I have no idea, but I suspect it was one of his plays on words. The idea of a purple toilet certainly appeals to me.

He just mentioned "a floating purple couch above the prehistoric Savannah..." or something like that. I just translated it into Latin.

I just ordered my

Galactic Civilizations III: Founder's Elite Edition

and I plan to name a star "Mazzone", my last name.  Looking forward to seeing the founder's badge under my name and playing all the galciv3 content. :star:
