Some great names here. I havent decided yet its tempting to use a family name but that seems lame. I'll come up with something.

I do not think naming it after a loved one is a good Idea.

I do not like the thought of a loved one being "occupied" by some nasty like the Yor or the Dregin.

Think of the fun you will having taking it back! Liberating it form the evil Yor.

But its kinda natural, places names are either named at whats their trades, hills. landscapes. rivers etc

Or after people Colombia, Rhodesia, Alexandria, Stalingrad etc

So since we wont know the features of the planets or star people are most likely to fall to naming it after the people most influential on us our loved ones.

Saying this i hope the new system for plants is going to be more detailed i would love to have cities on it that act like mini colonies....

I think it will be "end of the rainbow" to match my handle. As in where the pot o' gold is found.

I added a rainbow, as best I could. It looks ok in paint and I have loaded it up to my StarDock account as described in another thread, but I haven't seen it yet. I guess it takes time to get it to pass muster of the forum moderator.

Sovereign - Massive Mass Effect fan and it would fit well for a Red Giant star with some special attribute.

It would be awesome if starts could have attributes (if you are to close you take damage, your shields are weaker/stronger, your feul reloads (if there is such a thing), and so on. I would think a star like Sovereign doesnt take your crap and has a massive gravity pull and makes your ship move slower around it.

Yes, that would be the case but in a 4x game the effect could/would be a slower movement (since we dont have a sense of speed in a 4x game) to escape its gravity (much like in scifi movies/series where try to "get away" from a black hole or other things with a massive gravitational pull). Hard pressed engines and all. We both know that games dont reflect real life

To answer the OP topic; unless I accidentally come across some name I really like, or some random thought strikes from out of nowhere, I'm probably not going to send in a name. It's a cool idea for the people who are into that, but it honestly played no decision in my getting the Elite or not.
