Starship Tycoon

Anyone remember Starship Tycoon (Starlines, Inc.) or Moon Tycoon (Luna)? I always enjoyed these games, and found the basic concept appealing, but thought they were very lacking in content. Anyone know of any similar types of games but with more robust features? Gal Civ is kind of close, but still a bit different.

SR2 is freakin' awesome. I haven't played either of those games you mentioned, but if you want a fairly open-ended space adventuring game where you can play as a merchant (or a pirate, or a fighter jock...), it's a very good game.

Intereseting back story and a totally over-the-top atmosphere to the game, but good clean fun. For $20, how far wrong can you go?

I heartily recommend SR2. Not only do you get to do all the "buy low / sell high" stuff, but the decisions you make seem to actually affect the industrial bases of the economies in question!

I have Starship Tycoon, I got bored one day and bought it for like ten bucks. I also have Space Rangers 2; I still think GC2 blows SR2 away though for twenty bucks SR2 is good value for your money. My favorite part of SR2 is the robot-battles.

GC2 and SR2 are completely different genres. GC2 is a 4X game while SR2 is more of a privateer type game. I like them both equally in their seprate genres. However, SR2 is one heck of a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong game and it takes forever for it to break out into a whole NEW game with the RTS planetary conquest mode - but the long journey to that element of the game is a fun and interesting one.

They both are in dire need of voiceover though. I actually own Starship Tycoon also, and what it lacks in presentation and graphics it more than makes up for in "game play". If someone was smart they'd partner with those logic-geniuses at Starlines and put some real graphic punch to an awesome game.

There is "X3: Reunion" by Egosoft:

You fly around in a ship in a 3D enviroment. You can shoot stuff, trade stuff, build stations (to make stuff to trade), or even build an empire.

They are currently developing an expansion to the game (possibly standalone) so you may wish to keep an eye on it.
