Space Orca's where are you?

Where is TBAY? Where is Meglo? What has happened to the crew?

There are all sorts of new players heading to the metaverse and the top empireis sitting on it's haunches. Active recruiting seems to have paused.

We need to get up (get on up) and get involved.

Syrrus K and myself have both been appointed to the Metaverse council, which is being hosted at the galactic core Galactic Core link . The council is currently attempting to improve teh way things happen within the metaverse, things such as scoring, the way scores are categorised e.t.c... The BC Space Orca's have had the priviledge of being considered as one of the 4 founding empires for this council, which is pretty cool. I was hoping that some of our active members could head on over to the galaticcore and have a look at what we have been planning and trying to achieve.

Also, many of you Orca's may not be aware, that there is an Alternate Metaverse scoring chart, which encompasses a different method of score calculation - the score calculation is based more on active participation rather than manipulation of universe size and difficulty. You should definately check it out sometime! See if you can find your name and check out the banners for the Altmeta (hopefully mine appears below)

Well that's it for me, trying to come up with another tip, however I can't pin anything down to match the caliber of what Meglo had posted in the past.

I haven't had much luck getting this email bizzo working via this forum. Syrrus, perhaps we should try and contact as many of the Orca's as we can in an effort to get them involved with things again!?

If I get a chance I will start on that this weekend. It would seem that not even Ras is around at the moment. I would expect that people would be over the x-mas festivus conundrum and be hard at it all again.

Well I am placing the finishing touches on another Gig/Military conquest, which should hopefully propel me into the top 30 and place me within striking distance for a top 25 attack in the next few weeks. Syrrus I might have a chat to you about some strategies in an effort to crank my scores a little higher.

Hopefully we hear from some Orca's soon.

I have been placing bio's of the new cadidates in their voting section Syrrus so if you are still making up your mind about people have a look at what I have written.

Um. To be honest i'm kind of tired of the game. I'm hoping that DA will be a solid expansion that will rekindle the game for me.

I also haven't had a lot of time lately. Further fueling this, has been the state of the forums. I used to check up daily, and see interesting posts. Anymore, it's just all the same.

I've had a game going for a few weeks, and I just have no interest in finishing it. Playing meta games has probably made this worse, since the gigantic games just are not nearly as much fun.

So that would be my only interjection into the whole metaverse thing. Either get rid of gigantic and maybe huge, or make them fun.

Hopefully the AI improvements in DA will be good. I personally don't care so much about all the added complexities, and bling.

Things have shifted a lot, many members are going to the Core now.

We hope these forums will improve with DA activity, but we can only hope.

gallagher - we hear you mate, there are many people feeling the same sentiment.

The Metaverse council has formed as a result of this general disgruntlement with the way the current metaverse works.

I believe the Altmeta and the galactic core to be down at the moment (can't get access and the banners don't appear to be working, but when it is up and running come along and check it out.

Kryo has written up a query system that calculates metaverse scores slightly differently - it focuses on contribution not necessarily size. The Altmeta degreades your score by one sixth every month, so to stick around you need to stay on top. At the moment we are looking at setting up a variety of brackets for the Altmeta, in an effort to encourage people who can't be bothered with the gig/military victory to have their efforts rewwarded by viewing their score via a different scoring system. (see my posts above for links to thegalacticcore.com)

The banners you see in my posts above (if they are working) should outline the score/rank as per the 'Altmeta' scoring system.

I hope too. I finished a game yesterday. Will start a new one next week, after I polished my new commodore medal.

There are currently 8 Orca's members in the top 25 (well profiles anyway). I think Syrrus you and Gallagher count for 5 or 6 of those places. I will be starting up a second character for the purpose of posting DA games to the MV but my posting might slow down a little from now on as I have a masters degree kicking off at the end of Feb...I will also try and slip in a game to my major profile from time to time in an effort to stay in the top 25...

You truly are the current champion for the BC Space Orca's. I have sent you a PM on the galacticcore in an effort to have a chat to you about your tactics and attempting to contact more of the Orca players in an effort to get us all cohesive again.

Our hold on the no.1 empire space will potentially be compromised if we don't keep involvement of its members nice and high! Hopefully DA will see some returned enthusiasm!

I will always try to help anybody. I prefer Orcas a bit - but who would mind.

I admit that the Orcas will soon have to face an other empire for the competition of the first place. The HCH is active like no other empire. The altmeta shows it!

Only managed to get my hands on one there Syrrus - the one which didn't have the bulk of your reply D'oh!

Oh and hey I notice that one of your characters is now top of the Altmeta as well as the metaverse! Go you psycho!

Indeed the HCH is a serious threat - we need to have a look at our membership base and encourage those who are stilla ctively participating and perhaps attempt to contact those who have fallen off and try and ascertain why.

Hmmm my place in the Top25 appears to be quite tenuous indeedy! I am now ranked 25th and falling fast - seems there are a few people with their eyes on the prize!

how do you get the stats to show up under your post? is it because my character name is different?(pike the persecutor)

PlayJeff45, the stats you are seeing are from the Altmeta, http://altmeta2.thegalacticcore.com . Assuming you make it into those rankings, on your page will be links so that you can display your Altmeta stats. There is a type of link specifically for this forum.

Ras1310 is certainly correct but to give you a bit more detail, there are actually two things being displayed. One are the medals that are associated with your "default" character. The medals are a function of this site and are automatically displayed once you enable them. The AltMeta banner is something that you can get a link to from the AltMeta site but you need to explicitly include it in each post that you want to display it in.

To get your medals shown the procedure is slightly different dependent on where you are in the GalCiv2 forums. The simplest way is to click on the "Metaverse" button on the left side near the top of pretty much any page. From there go to the "Account" menu and select "Edit My Characters". This brings you to the "Manage Characters" screen. There are three buttons to the left of your character. The buttons are "Edit Player", Clear Scores" and "Default". Since you haven't set your default character the "Default" is a very faint shade of blue that's almost invisible. However, if you press the "Default" button it will set that character as your default character which will cause that characters medals to be displayed along with all of your posts.

As far as your AltMeta banner, go to your character listing on the the AltMeta and you'll see a list of banner style's that you can select from. You can copy the one of your choice (ctrl-C) and paste it into your posts (ctrl-V). I keep the link in a text file that I keep on my desktop so that it's readily available when I want to use it. The banner includes a link to your character page on the AltMeta.

I've taken the liberty of using your AltMeta banner in this post so if you click on it you'll be taken directly to your character screen on the AltMeta.
