I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at here, but I'm guessing it's one of the following 2: 1) Possibly the skin(s) you're trying to use simply don't have the XP taskbar skinned, try some skins from the WinXP Skins section of this site. 2) You're trying to run XP with the win2k style start menu, I don't know what impact this would have, but the startmenu skinning in XP is applied to the full start menu style, not the old one afaik. The wallpaper section of this site is heavily moderated. If you're not getting the login screen or fast user switching, it's likely that another program is interfering with this stuff, as all versions of XP have this. One program that I know does this is Symantec PCAnywhere, it replaces msgina.dll with its own version for security reasons. If you have PCAnywhere installed, an uninstall will fix this, and as long as you don't reinstall the host portion of the program, it will remain fixed.

Allie, some more information on which version of WindowBlinds you're running, and on which OS would be useful. With changing the text colours, the only way that I'm aware of at the moment is to rename the skin file to .zip, and then unzip it. There should be one or more files inside which aren't graphics files. You can edit these with notepad or your favourite text editor. The only way would be to write your own login application, and replace explorer with it as the shell in the registry. That way, it would be the first program loaded, and you could have it run a shell execute on explorer upon successful user authenitication.

Not surprising. Anyone that runs any anti-spyware monitoring software and has tried installing just about any of this type of program will know they they are crawling with spyware. The only difference now is that the major antivirus vendors have decided to call one particular piece of spyware a virus. It is my opinion that all spyware should be considered virulent. AJ

Well, first off, you wasted your money on StyleXP, you made it yourself in just under 5 minutes, but that's a moot point now. I'm not sure what .skin files are for. .msstyles, copy to windows\resources\themes. If you have StyleXP (or your own version), they will show up in the appearance dialog in display properties. .exe are usually installers for one thing or another, mostly msstyles in my experience. .jpgs and .bmps are skins afaik, probably just screenshots, or previews of sk

My advice to you would be to buy a larger hard drive. They seem to have dropped in price recently. While this may not be particularly useful advice, I really would recommend going over to XP (with NTFS), you'll wonder how you ever managed with WinME.

I like MSStyles. While not as powerful as WindowBlinds, it is faster (at least for me, unless using a UIS1 skin, which are not that common for XP at the moment). Unfortunately, as Frogboy said, there are only a handful of good themes for it at the moment. It is my belief that it is because MSStyles are comparatively young, and while we may not see the authors that we've come to respect in the WindowBlinds scene porting their skins to MSStyles just yet, as that community matures, it will develop

I've installed the retail of Counter-Strike (HalfLife) on XP a number of times without incident. If you are trying to launch a 16bit setup, it could cause problems, check if there's a launch for a 32 bit setup anywhere on the disc. If it's not specific about the setup you're trying to launch being 16bit, I'd reformat and try again if I were you. AJ
