http://www.2404.org/reviews/4164/Sins-of-a-Solar-Empire-Review
Wait, what facts aren't straight in that review? The only one I saw is that the combat takes place exclusively in the 2D plane (which I would argue IS true 95% of the time).

I think 60% is needlessly harsh, I would peg Sins at more like an 80%, but the review seemed pretty objective to me...is it so unbelievable that not EVERYONE thinks Sins is the greatest thing since sliced bread? I don't think it's fair to call it a 'bad review' just because it doesn't serve your purpose, even though the score seems arbitrary (as I have pointed out before here, many of the "good" reviews' scores don't jive with the text of said reviews). As for the popularity/notoriety

I would argue that watching the battles in Star Wars EaW as ships and the camera zoom around dynamically was more visually appealing than watching two huge fleets sit still and pew pew at each other in Sins, but that's a subjective opinion at best.
I still hold out faint hope that we may see a diplo overhaul and some drastic AI improvements in patches. Failing that I'm done with the Sins franchise and Ironclad generally.
That's a little harsh, don't you think, especially considering the critical and commercial success of GalCiv? Sins is not a bad game- it's stable, it has had (and will continue to have) great postrelease support- it just isn't a great one. It will probably never reach the critical mass o

Wic is another game that's tough to categorize but calling it "another boring RTS" is disingenuous. You can't just spam units either, you are capped out at less than a dozen units. It's more of a RTT- no dirt farming, and you'd better coordinate with your teammates if you want to win. WiC and Sins have almost nothing in common except that you play them both using a PC.

First of all, Forces of Corruption is an expansion pack to the original Star Wars: Empire at War. I can't say I've played Homeworld, but I have played EaW extensively. It has a very C and C feel with the included ground battles, and it has some interesting use of scouting, bounty hunters, diplomacy, etc. It doesn't have the scale that Sins has, though, but the graphics in EaW definitely outshine Sins, especially the cinematic camera, if that kind of thing is important to you. There is no storyline outside of what's in the manual, and the storyline you create for yourself. There is no single player campaign, period. As for the "lifetime of the game"- that's highly subjective. Some people will get bored of a game in a week that others will continue to play for years. There is no "finishing" the game, since there IS NO CAMPAIGN.

1. Sins is both a single player and a multiplayer game. Unlike what you may be used to in RTS/4x games, Sins does NOT, however, contain any campaigns. Your only option in SP is to skirmish, with up to 9 AI. 2. N/A 3. You might as well compare my car to a shoe. Sins and Eve have almost nothing in common except that they are games that take place in space. 4. What does that mean?

Of course people have different tastes. I'm just used to analyzing every piece of media I come in contact with, and through that analysis I have come to the conclusion that the content of the reviews of Sins doesn't back up the scores or the metacritic average, which I usually find to be pretty spot-on. I don't think there is a conspiracy, either, I'm not quite that far gone yet. I suspect that the reviews are inflated by 10% or so because Sins is something of a new genre of game, i

What's to misunderstand? The pictures show beautifully rendered screenshots of a close-up view of a battle which, if you are a decent player, you will almost never zoom in to see. Using the graphics as a selling point for this game is misleading. To compare, look at any review of Supreme Commander or a preview of Chris Taylor's other upcoming game (sorry Chris, don't mean to single you out but I have noticed a trend in reviews of your games) that I can't remember the name of (Demigod?

Jon, you are clearly just trying to provoke me, so no, I do not care to answer your questions, and at no time did I claim any superior intellect. Posters such as yourself are quite frankly why it is impossible to have a rational discussion about the reviews of this game (not the game itself, which is not even what I'm attempting to debate). Laugh away, if strangers on the Internet are able to provoke such a strong reaction. I won't be baited, and will only discuss the game a

Okay, I'll bite, in the name of not being called a troll. Here's some specific criticism: The screenshots accompanying the reviews that I've seen sure are pretty, but the fact is that you will play the game zoomed out to maximum 98% of the time, so the graphics essentially do not matter. It's the same gripe I had with Supreme Commander, another game I felt scored inordinately high based solely on the pedigree of Chris Taylor. Anyone want to address that?

Well, I'm at work, and don't have a lot else to do, surfing forums is how I kill free time. By the way, "fanboi" is not meant as an insult, but if you choose to take it that way, maybe it's time for some introspection? I am a fanboi of a lot of things, just not of Sins. I tried to bring up this topic before (that the Sins review scores seem unusually high and that the text of the reviews accompanying those scores doesn't justify them) and was run off the boards in a similar fashion.

I seek trouble because I disagree with the high reviews that the game has been getting and agree that an 8.4 is an accurate score? I insulted someone personally? It's okay, I should have known that answers like yours would be forthcoming. It's why I said what I said in the first post. The kneejerk reaction of any fanboi is to call someone with a different opinion a troll.

That is the first even halfway objective review of the game I've read. I swear that most of the people writing reviews for Sins never played beyond one game before writing their reviews. Once the "wow" factor of Sins wears off, you are left with a very mediocre game, in my opinion. I frankly have yet to read a review that justifies the inordinately high scores this game has been getting. Okay fanbois, tell me why I'm wrong, since dissenting opinions aren't exactly encourage
