Sitros, you miss my point. I have seen a ton of posts that say "this game is the greatest ever" and read lots of reviews that seem to sort of say positive things without getting too specific. I am looking for individual people's reasons for loving the game, that's it. I understand the concepts of object and subject-ivity, trust me. BigBad, anything to actually contribute beyond being an awesome forum warrior?

Xan, I agree, the Empire Tree is revolutionary. I love it, and I don't want to play another RTS without it. That much I can get on board with. However, I have let 4 or 5 friends try the game and they feel the same way I do, just sort of "meh". I don't have to list my gaming pedigree as so many here feel the need to, but Sins feels to me like it is missing something, so I'm looking for reasons to love it rather than just feeling like it's "all right". I'm trying to under

Correct me if I'm wrong but you must destroy all enemy planetary bases to win, yes? There is no other condition by which the "win" screen will be shown, is there?

I don't need to be convinced, hell, I already paid for the game. I just thought an objective discussion might be interesting, though it seems that it just may not be possible.

I think your math is a little off there, pal. The OP is the first post. Also, using profanity is not outside of acceptable conduct on this board. Can we please talk about the game, and not the thread? What's so new, or revolutionary, that would drive someone to say this is the best or deepest game they've ever played? Look, I said the game is OKAY, but "the best game I've ever played" is waaaaaaay beyond minor praise. Xan, so don't post then! What is so hard ab

Sigh. Once again, I haven't criticized anything, I am merely asking people to convince me that Sins is worthy of the praise it seems to be receiving on this board. That's all.

Well, when the second post in the thread is trolling, and its allowed (apparently encouraged) by mods, what else is there to expect?

67 Replies 89,913 Views

I haven't criticized the game at all, except to say that it isn't the greatest game ever played (which I could say about any game, save 1), but hey those knee-jerk reactions sure do prove my point about the lack of objectivity here.

Like I said, I'm just curious, because I do not understand the absolute fawning praise, and there is still no one in this thread that has explained to me why Sins deserves it.

Sins was the featured game with a 2-page spread in Games for Windows' advertising section, sharing the same space that games such as Bioshock have occupied. If you read IGN's review of Supreme Commander or the Wii WWE game, and have played those games, it should be pretty apparent that advertising can and does affect scores.

Okay troll, just go to some other thread please. OP means "original post" in this particular instance. You've added nothing by being a raving fanboi forum warrior. Kindly eff off.

67 Replies 89,913 Views

Yes, because reviewers are totally objective and are never influenced by the marketing in their publications... Right? Nothing about the Sins review in IGN indicates any level of "extraordinari-ness" that would rate an Editor's Choice style review. Also, Brillig, thank you for shidding up the thread and ignoring the OP's request for objectivity with the first reply. I bought the game, which is as much support as anyone can give it, but responses like yours have me wondering exactly

Okay, I'm no hater, I bought and paid for Sins and it's pretty okay but hardly the best game I've ever played, so here's what I'm wondering: Is all the fawning praise I see for this game on this board just to stroke the devs' ego? I mean, come on, Sins is an okay game, but I see all these posts like "It's the best game I've every played" or "It's so extraordinarily DEEP" and I just wonder if those people are playing the same game I am- there must be something I'm m

OP = best. troll. ever. The extent to which people will go to justify their theft of other people's intellectual property is astonishing to me, and also hilarious.

I, for one, am of the very strong feeling that turning off pirates in single-player would allow me to absolutely trounce the AI. In multiplayer, I can see how Pirates are a great game mechanic that really adds to the tension and backstabbiness between players, but in singleplayer they are just a money sink.
the Pirates are being used as a crutch for either the AI, economy focused players or as a check against inflation and on the game's economy as a whole. That's pretty disturbing, isn't it? That space pirates are so vital to Sins' AI or economy functioning? I don't know. It really bothers me, perhaps more than just the annoyance of actually dealing with the Pirates.
It's better than just having an unexplained factor called "inflation" that you can't deal with, at lea
If you're saying that this is an 'I-win' button versus the AI, then I'd suggest it's more a problem with the AI using pirates as a crutch than a problem with removing the pirates.
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly it. Pirates are a crutch. A crutch for the designers, just like inflation in CIV 4. It's neither good nor bad, it simply is.
