For #3, here's a thought (once you're ready to wade into the code):Step 1: Give the tech to all racesStep 2: For all other races, make it require ImpossibleTech - so it doesn't show up on their TechTreeStep 3: For all other races, make it untradeable & unstealable. Now they can't research it themselves, and if you give it to them they can't trade it to anybody else.
So, I finally got around to testing this. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Once you trade for a tech, you're
Hey, any chance I can get a list of the techs that have been altered by this patch? I've been working on a tech trading mod and I'd like to keep it consistent with the most recent version.
Nevermind, I think I figured out what I needed to know. Unless any changes to tech were not mentioned in the changelog, I should be fine.

Don't be in such a hurry to fill up all the space on your planets. Most improvements have a weekly upkeep cost, and you simply don't have enough taxpayers at the start to support such a large infastructure. Also, lower your taxes for at least the first couple months. Your population growth gets boosted by 25%(?) when your approval rating is greater than 75%, and is doubled when your approval is 100%.

Okay, all this "most pirates wouldn't buy the game anyway" and "piracy does/doesn't cost companies sales" talk is stupid. This stuff is impossible to measure. People here like to point at Stardock and say "this is proof that piracy doesn't hurt sales!" but for all you know, Stardock's games are popular despite not having copy-protection, not because of it. We simply can't say either way. The bottom line for me is if I'm selling games, I would definitely want to err on the side
Comparing piracy to stealing a physical item is a horrible comparasion.Piracy is more like finding something you need (headphones, a tool, ect) on the ground, but wouldn't pay for in a store.
Stealing is stealing. You're taking something without paying for it. Don't give me this "finding something on the ground" rationalization bullshit.
There's 2 types of arguments for piracy on the Internet. Piracy is good and the current business model for bu

They have a right to protect their software. I'm personally more pissed at those who pirate software than the companies who try to implement measures to defend against it.
There could be a lawsuit coming here pretty quick.
Huh? What grounds could there possibly be for a lawsuit?
If someone downloads a game thinking he/she wont like it much, but it turns out they love it, there might be a chance of them deciding to buy the game.
Here's a screenshot of my current TA galaxy: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y64/dustbuster87/GC2TA_TerranAlliance_1210012764.jpg Settings: Immense, abundant stars, common/occasional planets, very slow tech. 9 Major civs, 8 Minor civs, Painful difficulty, AI using max CPU. The problems are the Yor and Drengin (on the left and right sides of the map, respectively). Neither of them have colonized any planets beyond their home system, and they've done very little research,

Edit: Nevermind I understand. I'm gonna go ahead and give this a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks, that's just the sort of info I was looking for. 1) Theoretically, would it be possible to remove two minor races to allow for major races? 2) It's not really clear what you're saying about balance and the game acting weird. Though I did just find where I can edit tech costs, so I am getting to work on that now. 3) Well, the restrictions need to apply to the AI as well. Of course the player can decide not to trade away their own tech, but I can't do anything a

So, I'm not much of a modder myself, but there are a couple mods I really would like to see for ToA. 1) A mod to allow all 12 civilizations in a single game, or perhaps even 13 to allow for one custom race. The new Immense galaxy size just begs for this. Assuming it can be done, naturally some of the UI would have to be modded to accomodate. 2) A mod that slows down research speed. Even on Very Slow I find it to be a a good deal too fast for my tastes, especially on larger galax
As a side note, maybe unique techs should be tradeable only by the race who originates the tech. I play as the Arceans, I can pick and choose to trade Weather Control with my allies, but they can't turn around and trade it to my enemies, because I originated the technology. Not realistic perhaps, but trade goods are already like this, and it would certainly make things more interesting. Befriend the arceans to get weather control, or just conquer them, knowing the Yor already got weath

I'm beginning to wonder if you know what the word "fleet" means. Your ships don't combine into a super ship like, I dunno, Voltron or something.

I really like the Right of Passage Treaty, but I don't think a speed limit is the way to go. Why can't this be dealt with purely diplomatically? For example: If the Drengin, who I don't have a treaty with, see any of my ships within their borders, our relationship takes a hit and the Drengin demand I pull them out. How big an impact on relations would depend on how many ships they see, what kind they are, how heavily armed they are, etc. etc. The impact to relations

For galactic-level science fiction, it doesn't get better than Asimov's Foundation series. Come to think of it, a Galciv2 Foundation mod would be pretty cool. Overall, though, my favorite sci-fi writer is Neal Stephenson. Snow Crash, In the Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon... Everything he writes is gold.

Braddock8, Did you turn off the point sprites at some point? If so, that would account for the missing background stars. No, point sprites are not disabled. I don't see background stars, but I can get nebulas.
