Anyway, if anyone's interested in this stuff I can go into more detail. I just don't want to bore people with the back story stuff if it's not something they care about. Well I'll be the first person to say that I'd definitely like to hear more. [EDIT: Okay, make that the *4th* person. <img src="smiles/Tongue.gif" border=0 ALI

My question is in 2 1/2 parts: 1.) If I disable Cultural Victory, is there still any benefits to building culture starbases? 1a.) And if so, what are they? 2.) If there's *no* benefit to building culture starbases if Culture Victory is disabled, will the AI-controlled races know better than to build them?

Oh, you left out "Spaceward Ho!" and "Solar Wars". not to mention "Reach For The Stars" I'm sure Brad had these games in mind as well, but you can only mention so many in a single post without sounding redundant.

Well, I am hoping to get something nice for my wife. She's expecting ("release date" August 2006). LOL. Congratulations, by the way! Now I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly; but this is going to be your 3rd little Dark Lord-in-training, correct?

What did Brad mean by his comment that SEV and GalCiv2 appeal to different players? They are both TBS 4X Space Games. Yes, both games fall in the TBS 4x sub-genre, but they definitely take different approaches to it. At least to me, the Space Empire games seem to be geared a bit more towards the hardcore wargamer that likes to manage every lit

Yeah, I agree that was a rather odd comparison. One's an RTS, the other is a TBS-4x game. At least comparing GalCiv 2 to Sword of the Stars made a little more sense, since it's also a 4x game (even though it's in real time). Ah well, some people can't seem to help but compare apples to oranges, I guess. [shrug] Still, I enjoyed the article overall.

He'll probably buy a very comfortable bed. And a life support system so that he can sleep for a whole month. LOL. Yeah, that's probably what I'd do if I were him....

I love multiplayer, but have never felt any desire to play a strategy game (especially a turn based one) online I second this. Multiplayer is great fun for RTS games, FPS's, and whatnot; but TBS games have always been far more about the singleplayer experience. I can understand the appeal of the occasional LAN game with a couple of my friends

Okay, I have no choice but to reveal my massive ignorance here..... Never having pre-ordered a game before (ordered it through EB Games), I suddenly realized I have absolutely no idea as to how this works. Is my copy of the game mailed/shipped to me? Does EB send me an email, and I then go the nearest EB store and pick up my copy? Egad, I feel like such a moron for never having really considered this question before!

Entry found in "Martok's Authoritative (Yet Completely Unoffical) Dictionary for Gamers"..... First Entry: MOO3 Function: noun Etymology: (acronym) --> Master Of Orion [Three] 1.) The third (3rd) installment of the popular (but now tarnished) "Master of Orion" space strategy game series. 2.) Crap on a stick. I just realize my computer doesn't even meet the minimum specs to run the game, and I've already pre-ordered it. And I won't have the money to upgrade my computer until at least March. Wow, I definitely did *that* backwards.... [slaps self]

I think the AI is probably well beyond the point where it "needs to be" to ship. It's just that for me, computer AI is the whole point. The rest of the game is just an eye-candy wrapper for it. i might be a little biased on that though. I actually agree with that statement as well. (Not that I believe that pretty graphics aren't real
