Now I ran ads giving my candidate all thumbs down and my oppenent all thumbs up in West Virginia and I still won the state it just favored me more and more. I don't get it. Thumbs down doesn't mean you are losing. The thumbs up and down are an indication of public perception of your position

Your speeches and ads don't change the way voters think, although it make change what they think about. What ads and speeches do is add importance to the issue you are addressing, and change your rating on that issue. Newspaper ads and speeches only have a real noticable effect in the state they are made in. Radio and TV ads have national appeal. If you go on a newspaper blitz supporting social security in Florida your rating for supporting
Depends your standing on the issues in the state, your awareness and how badly you need those electoral votes in that race. Generally I only have one strongly contested state in each election. I spend only enough time in those states to place ads and then I try to steal away one of my opponents states that he isn't concentrating on just in case I lose the main battle ground state.
Frog made general comments on it in the expansion thread.
You do it during the elections. Your speeches and ads, and to a lesser extent endorsements, set your positions. If you want to be a pro-choice republicans, advertise that you support abortion rights and give speeches on it.
I think the best route would be, for now, to make sure you have the Operative's Kit and start modifying the data to keep it fresh and new yourself I had considered that but from looking at it, it doesn't seem to add much to the actual play of the game. I may pick it up, especially after reading about t
I understand you folks at StarDock are busy making the game work for people that can't get it to run, and that is great. It's nice to see a company care so much about their customer and actually supporting their product. But, this game grows stale quickly. The newness has worn off and I am left with a game that is rather uninspiring. Every race is the same thing with the only decernable difference being how much more money and capital the harder op
In the earlier campaigns, build your home HQ to level 3. Then use your next several turns to take all the endorsements. You should have the support of most of the map at this point. Build 2 more level 3 HQs, buy a web master in the big state of your choice, and run tv ads.
Unless you modify the character more than the game allows, which you can find out how to do in a sticky up top, I would start with a premade cadidate.
According to the tip you don't have to do anything except not spend all your stamina. Ive never gotten the stamina increase the tip mentions, not even sure if it made it into the final release.
A level 3 HQ doesn't have the thumbs up/thumbs down of the people. Only levels 1 and 2 have that. On level 3 there is a graph of where the dems and republicans are on issues with arrows showing how much they like or dislike a position. Frankly I think the thumbs are more helpful.
I don't always see a color shift from just one endorsement. If I have a few ads going 1 ad might make an immediate difference. Otherwise it usually takes three for me to see significant results colorwise. And not all of them give you boosts in 2 areas. The environmentaly endorsement hurts you ANWR rating, I think it lowers it by 5.
Its not just you.
BTW, this same exploit can be used with the political operative you get for a level 3 HQ.
The name area looks like an hourglass on its side. The first half of the hourglass is for the first name. You then have to click on the second part of it to enter a last name.
In the English file I have found 2 things that need corrected. In the line NewsAdFirstNegative1 - STATE should be STATENAME. As it is when you read the news it says your candidate ran and ad in STATE rather than saying which state it was. In the line News2ndQuarterStillWinning1 - The last line needs changed to say OPPONENTNAME rather than CANDIDATENAME. Right now when you play the game it reads as though the opposition is rooting
Someone correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the kook pop up with both positive and negatives numbers? One time he might be giving you a boost while other times he is just weighing you down. Am I just getting a weird kook or is this how it is set up?
My biggest problem with the game right now is that winning doesn't take strategy as much as it takes following the exact same plan over and over and over. Sure you can change which issues are important and which states are battle grounds but even thens its just, build HQ, run ads, rinse, repeat. There are a few things I would like to see before primaries, debates or anything else. First, we need outside influnce on the election. In politics
You should be getting the newspaper ad when you place tv and radio ads. Those ads get national attention which is why the paper comes up. And the newspaper always says you blast someone, even when you made an ad supporting something. I don't know if that was on purpose but I do wish they would address it in a future update.
Unless you are expecting a really close race or are trying to sweep the electoral votes, its not really worth it. I think the effort, as minimal as it may be, would be better spent stealling NY or Cali if you are a republican or Texas if you are a dem.
While we weren't at war in Iraq in 1980, the Iraq-Iran war had started and with our problems with Iran at the time it was a news issue. Granted it wasn't nearly as big of an issue as it is today but war in Iraq is a viable issue for the time.
I use endorsements differently depending on the level of my opponents. I have found the endorsements to be less valuable against harder opponents and, like the poster above, use the capital on operatives instead. But in the easier rounds of the campiagn mode and on low settings in quick game, getting endorsements makes a big difference.
The poll link at the top of the map screen, way over on the left.
Is this with the patch? I have never had that problem, or any bugs really, but I haven't fired it up since I patched.
And let's not forget the advisors you get with level 3 HQs which can be used to build up awareness in less contested states freeing your candidate to concentrate elsewhere.
