I know in Win98 the start button graphic was actually embedded in the user.dat (or name like that) of Windows. I would assume that WinXP is similiar, but might be slightly different considering MsStyles. Actually the Olympics are every 2 yrs. The Summer and Winter ones are alternated every 2 yrs. So its 4 yrs between each Summer one for example, etc. So I would think that we won't have GUIOlympics til next year.

The only way to install msstyles aside from the ones that come with XP is with another program, a hack. The best way to style XP is with Windowblinds. Not only can it do what Msstyles do, but it can do more if you so choose. I must have a very lucky machine lol. I install betas all the time, and almost never have I had an issue with them. Occaisionally I'll try one and it won't work well, and I'll uninstall it, but with XP that famous BSOD has yet to rear its ugly head. Even an Explorer crash has not happened. I do agree that Object Desktop is the way to go. Although if you haven't used skinning before it might be wise for you to take a step at a time first. Use the free version of Windowblinds for example to get a feel for how things change using it. I run Outlook 2000 and yes it uses the newsreader from OE. As far as I know that is your only option unless you get a separate newsreader program. As far as Wb4 I like the possibilities. Just wish I could see it more evident in the skins I use, but I understand it takes time to add that to them, if the skin authors ever do. And definitely a lot nicer configuration section for it. I think I follow although I do not have the same issue. The portion of this forum on SDC that shows the threads is black text on white background. The lower portion where you read each thread is the theme I have setup on Wincustomize. I suppose it would make more sense if they matched is what he means. In the chat on SDC it is like basic mIRC. Some text is colored, some is black but all on white background. If you don't like it that way use a real chat client like mIRC or pIRCh. P
I want to use DesktopX, but have yet to find a theme that fits for me. Every one is either too minimalistic or has too many gadgets. Yes you need SysMatrix then for that portion. When you downloaded the .xptheme that is only the theme itself, not the programs needed to apply the theme. There is a link on the SysMatrix section of Wincustomize to the website and download of it.
I concur on getting OD, even though I don't have it yet lol. I haven't since one of the programs I really like "Desktop X" doesn't work very fast for me right now. But once I get my new computer, one of my first purchases will be OD. I've used Windowblinds faithfully since version 2.x and never use my computer without it. WB4 sounds like another surefire winner, so definitely a good time to jump on the bandwagon if you haven't already jumped on.
You should have far more choices than WinClassic or original XP. Most who download windowblinds use it to change the look to something you can't get with basic Windows. Those two choices are basic windows. To access windowblinds on XP you right click on the desktop and choose properties. Goto the Appearance tab, not the theme tab. You will choose your windowblinds theme there.
Winamp mainly for playing mp3's, though like Musicmatch Jukebox for burning to cd and creating mp3 files. Only use WMP for video. Its too slow and cumbersome to use otherwise. I have RealOne also, but don't really care for it.
I remember when skinz.org offered a similiar program with the name SkinBrowser. So I'm looking forward to it. I just wondered if it will also provide an update to any news, or will we have to visit the site for that?
