Your post illustrates the common perception of those who both love and loath the Republican party. In truth, I wonder if these are only perceceived ideals meant to garner a particular side and set up an "opposition" seeing as how most Democrats and Republicans both loudly proclaim a particular agenda to the faithful (such as being tough on immigration) but actually follow through with quite different policy (hey, let the illegals take our jobs). <

This had to be the single most surprising policy of the Bush Administration. I can only guess that this might be a grab for the hispanic vote, but still, it blows my mind. Is Bush even concerned about alienating conservative voters?

Attacking Bush policy wasn't your intent when you were attacking the Patriot Act? I'll quote you again. As I have mentioned before, the Patriot Act was signed into law by both Democrats and Republicans. You know this. No matter how hard you try, you can't stuff words in to my mouth, just as well as you can't claim that "they" means the Bush Administratio

Good lord, switch to decaf and stop trying to make people think that the Bush adminstration is a slippery slope toward Nazism, and maybe you won't have these social problems... As shown above in the past posts, I didn't. It is your very subjective opinion that I meant the Bush Administration when I did not specify, as attacking Bush policy was not the intent. You being the one who thinks ev

Not until there is an evening of the boards that insures 3rd parties an equal amount of time to share their views and allows them exposure to the American people. I believe that American politics is kind of on "auto-pilot" at the moment. Not many voters are involved (what few of them there are) and because of this, the two most well entrenched parties just run things as they please, not really sca

People villainize Bush for not protecting the US from the weakening influence of civil libertarians, then, once steps are taken, people like you liken his administration to Nazis. Great job, you turned a perfectly good reply into a knee-jerk, reactionary whine. When in doubt, paint on a little moustache... I don't know who is complaining about "Bush not protecting the US from the weakening i

Sorry, SSG, I see your point but the policies are what they are. Candidates should be labeled by their actions, as politician talk is rarely fact.

You wouldn't appreciate this ideology of unchecked speech and protest any more than anyone else. We have a society wherein protest is possible, and where it isn't exploited or used as an excuse for destruction, intimidation, or to impose on the rights of others. It is a good balance. Of course not, but we didn't have a problem with our "balance" until after the Patriot Act and the rolling back of laws meant to protect citizens that were

Great post, great info. I remember this being an issue in the mid-90's when D.C. was asking for another bailout from the government....

In writing for any college class or newspaper these days, one must follow a particular format. The two most popular are APA (American Pyschological Association) or MLA formats. One can acquire either of these manuals at most libraries and bookstores. They contain all the proper grammar and reference rules and there is one particular chapter of interest in the APA book entitled "bias". It is considered "u

Politicians need millions of dollars just to stand a chance of winning. This means holding fund raisers and appealing to their interests. The media controls public opinion which forces politicians to surrender to them and use their money for campaigns. The average Joe can't go up to the President and ask him what he's doing for health care, since he doesn't have millions of dollars to spend on an ellection. That's why it would be so int

Dearest Deference... Glad you had a good laugh. "Personal attack?" No, I thought I had valid points. I believe financial markets are self-fixing in the long run. If anything, your post seemed rather hostile (none intended by me). I'm uninformed, juvenile, an idiot? I don't see any counterpoints in your post, only insults and hostility (I liked that last line- though rather hostile, it was rather funny). What a good sport. Perhaps I

I'll quit the tit-for-tat logic when people start using a single standard for both Bush and Kerry rather than skewing it because of a dislike for Bush. I really wouldn't have any problem with that if only you could make the argument somehow apt. Also, I hate to gloat...wait, no, I love to gloat, check this link: S.B.V.T. CAU

Incredibly substantive and wonderfully done RATM4EVA. I often think that the reason liberals and dems felt so comfortable in voting for him was because he gave Rush Limbaugh something to spit about. There also seemed to be a belief that Clinton felt as they did despite the policies passed while he was in the white house. He was successful because he was so moderate (I don't know if that is quite apt, but...). I personally feel that it is wr

You may be right Bakerstreet. I think that the U.S. public is less likely to actually see amendments to the Patriot Act, however, as it seems our legislators are only debating (if they are even doing that) whether or not to renew the Patriot Act. Perhaps you have not been privy to "tangible damage" but there are many who have felt the bite of P.A.'s restrictiveness. I have a little brother who protested at the WTO in Florida last year and w

The latest crop of "political correctness" now teaches that Islam is a religion of peace, and that they're misunderstood by Western society. Meanwhile, conservative Christians are a boil on the ass of humanity that must be lanced. Ack! PC, never liked it, never ascribed to it, it's about the only thing I really didn't miss about the '90's. The anti-Christian slant is also a huge problem for me, as America gets farther and farther fro

Dear Zack ~ Thank you for the personal attack. It was so uninformed, presumptous, and juvenile, I almost laughed hard enough to fall out of my chair. No, I'm not a fed. employee, you rabid idiot. I'm a dirt poor college student. Do me a favour, get out all the dollar bills in your wallet, look at them carefully, then apply them, with one good shove, up your anus. I hope you get paper cuts. Thankfully, Kerry, himself has decided that now that he has finally faced the accusations, he will now speak about the issues. It may be too little too late. By focusing on the S.B.V.T. strawman, the Kerry campaign has nearly stalled by not taking advantage of their real strengths; the social and foreign policies that democrats usually win on.

Re: "Return of the McCarthy Era?" I don't think you have made your point. It is an inflammatory title for a very subjective factoid. Again, the link kingbee provides gets their information from Salon.com, Bakerstreet, I like your fire, but understand that the Patriot Act did occur.
