Yeah, no go. The map shots are basically a blowup of the existing textures, complete with compression artifacts from the process. If they fix all the map objects like they're doing the units, maybe I'd be interested in it, but probably not. The art in HoMM3 is great, fuzzing it out with smoothing algorithms isn't worth the tradeoff even if they are cleaning up some of the details. It's not like Homeworld where they're replacing stone age textures and models with new ones, hand painted 2d suffers little from age.
The resource piles in particular look like absolute shit in those screenshots, compare the pile of gold to the original, there isn't any detail. It completely lacks the crisp metallic look of the original, not the least bit shiny. The treasure chest contains equally dull contents, I expect gems and crystals will be the same.
The dungeon castle is a big downer too, that's a rework, not just a blowup. The original castle image has uneven bricking, complete with flaws like cracks, and rough surfaces. It's replacement is a more uniform object, devoid of such character. The columns are smooth, the bricks are uniform. The original was all hand drawn, texturing included, the replacement doesn't look like it was.
