What are you going to name your star?

What are you going to name your star?

Might as well fill this space up with 'useless' topics  ^_^ ;P

So what are you going to name your star and what's the reason for that name (if any) ?

I'm going to name my star 'Emmen'. It's my hometown, lived here all my life and am proud of it even though most Dutch people would call it a dump.

Edit; why is this topic showing up in the General GC3 subforum? I posted it in the GC3 Founders subforum.

Going to put together names of my daughters for the star...

Anyone who colonizes that system shall henceforth live in shadow of their adorability.

As for someone complaining how we should make names others find "fun to find"... Go and buy enough accounts to make them yourself. I shoveled up cash to name it, then I will name it the way I like. And screw the "fun" of others.

So Either  "Captiva" My gamer handle I use all the time.

Or "Rodney" after my little brother... RIP bro.

My wife will get over it if I don't name it after her... She don't play these kind of games so shouldn't matter anyways.

So prolly one of these

Fox Hole or leave them default, planet names are not important to me really, later when I get bored I might do that like I do in Civ 4 all the time. lol

They are talking about the star that you get to name as part of the Elite package.

I've been thinking about my choice for quite a while, and now realize that I need help. I believe I stated earlier that I was thinking of "end of the rainbow", to sort of go with my avatar. But I have been thinking it might be nice to try to put it in the tradition of Galileo, since he is credited with the first telescope, which means trying to convert "end of the rainbow" or "rainbow's end", like in where a Leprechaun keeps (or finds) gold, into either Italian or Latin, which is just a bit beyond me.

In the WikiPedia I found translations for "rainbow" in Italian ("Arcobaleno") and in Latin ("arcus (caelestis)"), but I don't know how to add "'s end" to it.

Is there anyone on this forum that can assist me in my quest?

I believe you're looking for "Arquus Terminus"; you're using the wrong form of the word for 'rainbow'. I'm not sure though, I'm only barely immersed in the language.

Thanks, PR. I think that gets me part way there. Obviously I was missing the word for "end" (Italian "Termini" or Latin "Terminus"), so that could give me something like "termini dela arcobaleno" in Italian (not sure of the grammer). But what about the word form? In looking at WikiPedia, I couldn't get anything with "Arquus", and Wiktionary does not have Latin translations in it. I got "arcus (caelestis)" in Wikipedia when I called up "rainbow" in English and had Wikipedia translate that to Latin. I can see now that leaving out the parenthesis was a mistake, but I am still wondering what you mean by the wrong form of the word rainbow, and in which language?

Arquus means 'arch' in latin I believe, just like 'arcus', they even sound the same when you say them. Think of 'slap' with 'smack'. It's just a different spelling of the word as far as we're concerned (It's not actually, but that's not important here).

You can use it to refer to rainbows even though it isn't explicitly about them (Like how english speakers can call 'remote controls' just 'remotes'). This then directly translates in that vein to 'rainbow's end' -Arquus' Terminus-. In Italian it's 'Fine di Arcobaleno', or 'End of Rainbow'.

Am I the only one who thinks you are over thinking the names of your stars?  Earlier I said I was going to name my star "Franklin Fuzzypants."  I was just kidding... I am pretty sure that Stardock won't approve since I lifted the name off a Verizon commercial.

I could name it Davenport after a hot chick that I know.  Or Lindemann after another hot chick that I know.

But I am going to name it Karnes!

And I want my star to have a biography to it - "After years of bad booze and even badder women Michael Karnes set out to find the most desolate star in the galaxy and claim it as his own."

Which is the biography of my life... except I don't really have bad booze... and I kind of enjoy the bad women.

Might be trademarked.  Yeah, I got the reference ... you old smoothie.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not TOO geeky...

Or, if I am, there are others who share my affliction. ;)

Names I won't be using include:

Spontex (Although everytime I use one of their microfiber cloths to clean my screen I think it sounds like an alien.)

and

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (Which is an actual place in Wales. Roughly means "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave" I believe. Guessing it's probably too long for the game to handle.)

Grimm's Star

For the Glory of the Grimmian Empire!

All things, when compared to other things, ought to have a grimmanic esthetic.  Grimmians are by definition THE people of the universe and not to have a Star named for the most Grimmesque of all peoples . . .

Have a Grimm day!

Personally, I plan on calling my star "Macragge" or "Ultramar" because I'm a Warhammer 40k junkie. ;-;
