What are you going to name your star?

What are you going to name your star?

Might as well fill this space up with 'useless' topics  ^_^ ;P

So what are you going to name your star and what's the reason for that name (if any) ?

I'm going to name my star 'Emmen'. It's my hometown, lived here all my life and am proud of it even though most Dutch people would call it a dump.

Edit; why is this topic showing up in the General GC3 subforum? I posted it in the GC3 Founders subforum.

I am not sure there is sufficient control. I am negatively surprised to see 'chocolate dick' ('csokifasz' in Hungarian) as an approved name. Maybe there is an other meaning but if so, that one is not known to google.

And frankly would it be too much to list the approved names in alphabetical order? :-D

My star should be called "Kkrelmm" as in "I am Elrikk of Kkrelmm"

I'm just gonna be really sad and name it after my wife. Her names Jade and I couldn't think of anything spacey so I named it Jadeux.

She always complains I never include her in my games, now I can xD

Well mine got approved. Shalmirane. It's kind of an obscure reference, but you can google it.

Yes I think they will probably need a second pass at moderation to remove all the non-English rude words and phrases people will have tried to slip in for a laugh.

Verga should be  a valid star name. I mean, it is a valid Sovereign name. }:)

True I had to look that one up, and it's a fair question how much should they care? They can always have adjust the list for different language additions.

The problem is that they cannot control every possible language (and their slang). But what are fans for? :p then it's up to Stardock to filter or not.

We can't go through and check each word in every language and compare it to their slang and such.  If you find something offensive in another language, you can feel free to PM it to me and I'll take a look. ;)

Are you also going through the official names? I'm only asking because the planet-name Po, from the Altarian homesystem, means "butt" in German.

A word like that has several meanings.  I'm sure if we dig enough we can find lots of words that have "colorful" definitions in other languages.

That's true, besides germans wouldn't see what's funny offensive about butt anyway their sense of humour doesn't really work that way. Belive my my wife is German.

To be honest, I think there's a big difference between a short innocuous word like Po, which happens to mean "butt" in one language and someone intentionally running together words to mean something like "chocolate dick" which is extremely unlikely to be pure chance.

That or Altarian scientists have the same sense of humour as those that find Uranus funny. 8C

As a German myself, I only know that too well.

Good choice. :D

Does anyone know when the star naming ends?

I still can't think of what to name mine.

Up to Chreden, there are 1112 founder stars. Multiply by $100 (rounding up the price). Also, found my name and surname as star names. B)  If they ever spawn next to each other, the universe will explode.
