Sins: Rebellion Collector's Edition Upgade

Sins: Rebellion Collector's Edition Upgade

So I got an email about the upgrade to Sins Collector's Edition... According to the email, only 2,600 are available... and the price of the "upgrage" is $69.99 plus S/H.

I already own Rebellion on steam. Does it mean that I still have to pay $69.99 plus S/H for a toy and dog tags?

Check out what’s included below:

  • Painted Kol Battleship Model
  • Set of Rebellion dog tags
  • Metal imaged mouse pad with Rebellion artwork
  • Steelbook DVD Case with game DVD and 2 music CDs
  • Two 18x26" Rebellion posters

I checked and after taxes and shipping, the so-called "upgrade" will come to roughly $109...

Now I would be happy to own this stuff, but for at least 2x cheaper... considering I already own the game and all previous sins games.

It got moved to September according to Yarlen.

Sorry gang, we're looking at Late September.  Took a very long time to get the Kol models sorted out. :(

I'm just glad that they've left the Capital Ship Factory and are currently phase jumping to a gravity well nearby. ;)

the big pity is that less than 500 have been pre-ordered to date when yarlen ordered 2600 kols.

it looks like yarlen will be surrounded by kols for quite a while.

I just hope that they do not declare yarlen to be an enemy and attack him.

Lot more people would be likely to order if we didnt have to pay that super expensive shipping outside USA.

Yeah, doesn't bode well for us doing future CE's. :(

Rawr!!!! XO

After a set amount of time has passed and if there are any CEs left, anyway you could break the items up in these to sell separately? Like the music discs, the Kol models, etc?

Nooooooooooooo! Does this mean no Sins 2 collector's edition?

Is it possible to cancel your pre-order?  Because I rethought everything, and it is to overpriced.

Wait, it comes with the game, right? and I can install it on another computer?

It's delayed because the Kol model was too powerful looking and new players demanded a nerf.  O:)

It isn't overpriced--it's just expensive to make and ship.

I've had game parts printed and the things cost a fortune when they are cheap and in plastic.  When you get to hand crafted and painted metal you are talking scary expensive. This isn't a "money maker" for them.  In fact, it's a little potential risk profit wise.

that IS a worry as my ENTIRE CE collection IS from stardock.

I understand what you mean, I do.  I'm just not sure what use I would have for a Kol model, other than to look badass on my self of course.

I would be proud to own this stuff, but it wouldn't be practical unless it came with a copy of the game that I could install and play on a computer separate from the one that I already have Rebellion on.  Does it?  And could I still have the same persona that I have on ICO?

I was told by someone who ordered it that they were told the game disk is included but it requires your purchasing account to activate on Steam.

So, I can put it on another computer as long as I have steam?

Yep

For the record, for the model and all the extra items that come with this; I believe it is worth the money. Stardock is also selling us this package at cost which is very generous.

Quoting LupusVir, reply 144
Cool!

To clarify for LupusVir, I do not believe it comes with another activation key. You get a hard copy of the disc but not another activation key, this is why it needs your steam account linked to your digital purchase of the game to play. This is a Collector's Edition 'add-on (read: optional content)' purchase to enhance the digital copy of the game you have already purchased. The game DVD (without activation key) is for those that want a physical medium to reinstall the game from (rather than re-download everything off the wire again).

This can be found at  https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/collectorsedition

That all being said, if you set your Steam account to 'Offline Mode' on each computer and start Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, you 'might' be able to play LAN.

I do know for a fact that if there are two or more unique accounts (one for each computer present on the LAN) and set them all to offline mode you can play LAN games locally without having to worry about cramming all that information out to the wire and then back again, it stays on the LAN and steam is not sucking up bandwidth.

Yarlen & crew or other forum members may be able to further explain how this works.

Well, I don't have to play online.  Can I just install the game without the need for steam, and just play singleplayer?

I have asked many times, but you still need Steam to run the game, even when it comes on the disk in the collector's edition.

So, I can't have the game able to be played on two computers?

you CAN, just that each computer NEEDS to be permitted to use the steam account , and only ONE computer at a time logs in to the steam account, BUT EACH computer NEEDS steam or rebellion does NOT WORK.

To sum up:

-Yes this is expensive. It's a Collector's Edition. Those of you who said you would buy one before should, because Stardock and Yarlen went through so much trouble (and risk) to make and get these for us.

-All my CE stuff is also from Stardock and this is sad if it is to be the last one. Sins 2 will be amazing.

-If you want to play Sins with a friend you have to have (sometimes) two independently purchased games. Steam is one of those roadblocks that can, but should not be bypassed (and LEAGALLY can't) so that you can play two games with one account. No one is going to stop you. But beware if you are found out.

-The CE does not include another key, and is only an upgrade from the digital version.

-The Sins of a Solar Empire CE is now shipping in September.

Game on. Hobey ho.

I can confirm that this works, as my family and I have one copy of Sins and we routinely play 3 human vs 7 ai.

The LAN play does not access whatever ICO needs from Steam, so you can play while offline. It's a bit of a pain setting up each computer with Steam then setting it to offline mode, but oh well. Makes me miss Impulse though!

And for those who are saying it costs too much: I agree, but I bought it anyways. I said I would, and I will. I will also purchase any and all CE for Sins:2 and anything else down the road (financial conditions permitting). For future reference though,  Stardock might want to find out how much people are willing to pay first. Or offer different set ups. I would gladly pay up to $30 for everything but the Kol model.  I think the Kol is where they overplayed their hand. I think if they offer a version without the Kol for however much less (plus less shipping!) their sales will skyrocket.

Anyways, just my two cents worth. Cheers!
