Demigod - The Legends Tournament

Demigod - The Legends Tournament

I'm thinking of having a final tournament that I will participate in. I never had the tourney I wanted to even though I've hosted several.  It's time for that to change.

The goal of the tournament is to crown the absolute best player(s) out there EVER.  I will be attempting to bring back some all stars.  The tournament will be invitation only (more on this in a bit).  There will be no set teams.  Everyone will play with everyone.  The winner(s) will be decided based on cumulative score per game - eg a win will be 2 points - a loss 1 point.  The majority (if not all) of the prize money will come from everyone playing in the tournament.  Eg, if you want to play and think you are the best, you will pay to enter.  You don't pay, you don't play. We will all put our money where our mouth is.

I will set the tiers on entrants.  For instance, anyone that I consider a contender for the number 1 spot will pay $20 to enter (note - any $$$ amount I mention is subject to change - just some quick thoughts).  If I think its close but not likely, $10.  And if I think no chance in hell, $5.  After we get a list of folks wanting to participate, I will clarify where I think folks fall.  If I think you are crap, well good news if you are not.  If there is a tie for the #1 slot after the tourney is over, we will have some sort of competition to determine the true winner.  I will pony up a bonus prize that will be reasonably generous.  The number 1-3 slots will receive a payout of some sort.  All entrance fees will be collected before the tourney.  I expect this will be a 2v2 tourney.

And last - this tournament will happen in a timely order.  People not showing up when expected will be disqualified.  We will not be exceedingly gracious.  All matches will be scheduled in as convenient a time frame as possible.  I will be the final judge unless I am involved in the game. In that case, we will fall to another (undecided at this point) judge.

So, there are the basic premises. If you are interested, please respond here.  If you know folks that you consider excellent players still playing or if you have contact with them outside of Demigod (and they aren't currently playing), please give them an invite.

edit - we very well might have different rules for folks that based on my estimation of skill. re: my $20, $10, $5 entrance fees... perhaps the $20 folks will not be able to use the same character more than 2 times... the the $10 folks not more than 4 times... and the $5 folks have no restrictions.  Anyway - last random thought.  That idea might be crap...

MEh, I'm no legend but I reckon I gotta be one of the helpful supports out there. The times I'll cit upagrade fs,cur1,cur2,creeps...is almost every game so my greedy team can FEED. I am the Mother earth of the forces. Lol. Monk micro for the team, dropping gear for people, half capping a flag with a teammate then leaving the fullcap for them. Life support for the win.

My bro and I have got some Australian players to get on with on most nights... just 4 -6 of us and I'm not really interested in playing any assholes from anywhere else much anymore.BTW I've had too much beer so take this with a grain of salt or ignore me completely I'm just bored and looking at the 16 players online and saying to myself fuggit.

If I get a day off work its great to get on when the US players are at it and stomp the living shidddddy out of them. Tho I was upset yesterday when my 8 win streak was put to an end by my idiot brother 1v1 me.

We also had an awesome game us2 vs 3 others. They were doing so poorly and telling us we're assholes for feeding on them lol so I decided to be an AWESOME support for the enemy by running to their base, dropping some armour, then running back out again.... If you're stomping some noobs make it fun not boring; give them stuff to re-balance it :-) WOOT!!

unfortunately I'm no welfare sponge so I'll be at work when everyone else plays this "awesome legends got the biggest cock" tournament.

BTW I'm a useless troll.

it's all only relevant if you have no smurf account that you are using to keep track of things

O:)

I fully do expect that if we actually start getting serious about this that several inactive folks will start playing again to get rid of any cobwebs well before the tourney would take place.

Side note - omg_userbanned expressed interest in participating as well and I'm down for that.

I really don't understand why you keep a close relationship to the kinds of people, which nnnils correctly described.

But i play w/e to show once again who's boss ;)

why you keep a close relationship

Ugh... Unless you know something about pacov I don't, I wouldn't describe his "relationship" with Rich as a close one (:

I simply allow for the possibility of change in folks.  Sure, there are many folks still active and inactive that are always on the up and up.  I have a strange feeling you won't ever see me, or zen, or orcun, or nils, or dark, or so on, desync a game even if we would get a loss.  Or raise the standard higher - many of us would fight to the end in a lost game for our teammates (knowing its a complete waste of time).  Anyway, I could go on with other examples, but I think you get to know the character of players as time goes by.  You might not always like them, but whether or not they are a good sport will become evident.

That said, Rich has certainly been prone raging in the past and being a bad sport.  I've seen the good and the bad of him.  I don't have any issue with him participating or see any reason to give him a hard time.  That said, anyone being a huge douche would be thrown out of the tournament.  I don't think that's going to happen with anyone that is invited.  Because believe me, if I thought that was possible, any person like that would not be invited.

Anyway, I do suggest we get more proactive with our tourney talks if we want this to happen.  I'll keep pushing things along, but feedback from you folks would help along with ideas.

So, here's what is set in stone in my mind

While I think a 2v2 would be MUCH easier to organize, folks seem to want a 3v3.  So 3v3 it will be - that part of the format is decided.  I'm also sticking with a set rotation of players (eg everyone plays with everyone).  This means that the more people we allow into the tourney, the more scheduling chaos/potential for the tourney to outright fail.  Not the best idea, but I'll go with the generally community on the 3v3 bit.

Here are the questions I've already asked with no response:  the tourney will either be 3v3 with no character restrictions or 3v3 and 1 player on each team will have a restricted set of characters to choose from.  If we do it the no restrictions route, I think we'll likely see many similar combos.  That said, I personally don't think it will be a huge deal.  But THAT said, I also like the idea of forcing folks to use da/reg, etc.  I have a strong feeling that if there are no restrictions, I'll be going erb like every game unless there's a mismatch in my favor.  That's ok, but boring - and I'd wager many of us would agree if we are forced into that scenario.  How shall we handle this?

I have a good idea re: scoring that I think will tie into my next question.  First, the question - how do we handle scheduling?  Let's give 1 point for 1 win, 0 points for a loss, and -1 (or -2) points for a no show.  When you think about it, if we have like 12 people in the tourney, we have X games to cover all possibilities (remember how I wanted to do a 2v2?).  Anyway, certainly somewhere in all of those games, someone is going to flake out and screw over their team.  If you take a loss because your teammate is a no show, then you simply get 0 points.  That sucks.  But the person that doesn't show gets penalized further.  Perhaps we even come up with a rule that a person that hits -X points gets DQ'd and dropped.

And last, re: pacing.  Sure, we could try to marathon run this over a few weekends - but perhaps we just schedule like a game or 2 a week.  Folks get like a 30 minute grace period to START their scheduled game.  If there is a no show, on either or both teams, we just apply the scoring math - call it a loss for all and an additional penalty for folks that didn't show.  Pretty sure we are all at our teammates mercy as to whether or not they show up, so it really shouldn't be an unfair adv.

Here are the questions I've already asked with no response:  the tourney will either be 3v3 with no character restrictions or 3v3 and 1 player on each team will have a restricted set of characters to choose from.

How to decide who will be restricted and to what characters?

For example, nnnils, IN1 and Darkliath decide to form a team. If you restrict IN1 to using Reg -- gg. If you restrict Darkli -- no effect, she'll probably play Reg anyway. The only viable restriction candidate in this case is nnnils. Okay, I can see the logic in this case.

However, if nnnils, renz and yellow_belly decide to form a team, whom are you going to restrict?

I think you misunderstand.  There is no forming teams.  Everyone plays with everyone and there will be a rotation of all players.  And re: the character restrictions - only 1 player would be restricted on each team - it would be up to that team to decide who would be restricted.

And again, that's just an idea.  Its either 1 restriction for 1 player on  team or no restrictions.

Irrelevant to my question.

All right, that's what I wanted to know.

Overall, I think the idea is reasonable and interesting enough.

There`s no chance in hell one will ever find out who the best player is in 3v3s..

My suggestion is to simply play 3v3 games with the invited group of ppl, rotate players as good as possible and track the wins and losses.. Make a ladder (e.g. after win % or games won) and note with and against whom one played..

Say Player X played 4 games: he won 2, lost 2 win% 50%     he played 2x with player C, 3X with player A etc... played 4x again player V etc...

If player V is ranked last in the ladder then player X will have to play in his team for the next couple games to balance it out as good as possible..

OR u could make a ladder by counting points.. say a win is 1point and a loss is 0 point.. the best player (voted by the other 5) can get an extra point and the worst player a minus point or whatsoever..

Anyway the results will never be accurate.

Oh and to answer ur question, I dont care about restrictions and dg picks..

I do not think this is possible. Lets assum we have only 9 players in a tournament and we use EVERY possible combiantion of players/teams.

W3/9= 9^3=9*9*9=729 combination of formed teams

or

V3/9= 9!/(9-3)!=362880/720=504 comnination of formed teams

1. Maybe I do not get your idea of everyone plays with everyone clear.

2. Maybe I made bad assumption (possible, I have not been using this type of math since secondary school)

I do not deny this happened but since Red remains inactive for 10 months and even Green and Black could not bring him back to Demigod (check gamelist - Green is playing regulary, Black from time to time, Red 0 games in Epoch IV), Green is back, Black is Back but not Red I am still playing this game despite of a break your theory and arguments are  invalids Shane ; )

Lol you basically said "I only play on this account now, not -Red-One anymore, so that proves I am not -Red-One."  No way to answer that really, and no reason to continue steering the thread off topic.

I LOL at the 'pros' of demigod. Meh, there's a new generation around. Install full mod packages, try mixing up your team with some AI, let's say 5v5 with 2 hard AI each side (low gold high hitpoint) with all the good mods on. Then play some different arenas, different game types other than destroy citadel, different settings for creeps and other.

I'm not talking silly stuff like filthy rich start level 20, but OMG it's so boring, yes you have mastered the 2v2 or 3v3 cataract builds and repeat, repeat, repeat. None of these so called pros are willing to throw a curve ball in the mix and make a game that has a little chance in there. BTW, my bro still beats me 4 out of 5 games in this Mod generation demigodding... so the AI has not changed my chance of winning, but the game style is completely different. You gotta think about save AI teammate strategy and confuse AI enemy strategies, sneak past AI methods, and of course....where the hell is that prick human player and what's he up to.... and yes the ai is dumb but so are creeps and I hear nobody complaining that they are in the game.

Get out of the old broken-demigod-vanilla-cataract-push the gold-hold the hp-pro mindset and have some still skillful but FUN games... It seems the skill is mostly in the lobby; who can stack the best.

In advance; congrats to the "BEST" demigod player ever.... whoever wins it. You have mastered a simplified version of what this game was actually meant to be. Any of these pro games gonna be on the Brothers map?

I am a shit player and in no way a contender But I will beat ur asses once in a  while and laugh every minute of it.
