If Demigod, why not League of Legends? It's more polished and receives weekly patches and content updates, has a much greater level of variety, a more strategic meta-game, etc etc etc. It's also free.
I preordered Demigod, played it for a few weeks, and shelved it. It, for me, was just another game in a long line of games where the hype fell far short of the end result. Those trailers were fantastic, but I found the actual game to be clunky, shallow, and built to a much smaller scale then I had imagined. Worst of all, I started finding the game repetitive.
On the other hand, I've found LOL to be a much deeper and more dynamic game. It's hard to explain, exactly, but I also find it.. sleeker? cleaner? more graceful?
Hm.... perhaps "sexy," in the way a car or a piece of piece of technology can be called "sexy" is most apt.
Well, you should keep in mind you are talking to one of the biggest demigod fan boys - figured I'd preface my comments with that. But, odds are its going to come down to "I like this game for X reason and you don't like this game for X reason."
I've never been a fan of league of legends, though I've got to say I'm jealous of the model they have in place for patching. I'd imagine that game will receive support for quite some time. But that said, one of the biggest drawbacks of LoL are the graphics. Its just not a very pretty game. Not compared to demigod - the maps and character models are gorgeous.
Another thing - the limited zoom of LoL. In Demigod you can pull all the way back on a map and view everything or zoom in to get as close to a battle as you want. I'm also more partial to the game play in Demigod than LoL, but that's more of a "to each his own" sort of thing. I don't know for sure, but I don't believe LoL has any modding support, while Demigod does (granted its limited, but the community has been able to come up with AI mods, UI mods, fun new game modes, etc).
There are more than 1 or 2 maps in Demigod. Last I checked, didn't LoL only have 1 or 2? Demigod has 8. In Demigod you also upgrade things like your gold income, your troops, your defense, your xp rate, etc, so there is a deeper meta game there. In addition, there is the capture the flag mechanic in Demigod that grants the team additional bonuses (extra hp/mana/gold/dmg etc).
I think the only thing LoL has that demigod does not is hiding and then popping up. I'm not really sure why you'd think the meta game in LoL is much deeper, tbh, though. A given games strategy in Demigod comes down to the characters that were selected, the abilities of those characters and how complimentary they are to the group, the build a player has chosen to use with that demigod, the level of teamwork, the bonus given by the capture the flag style bonuses (extra hp for the team/extra gold for the team/extra damage for the team), controlling and locking key flags, etc. Anyway, it seems a lot deeper to me than LoL.
