Hey everyone its that time again, lets compile some data!

This is a post that I will update regularly to give the DEVS a better idea of what people think should be done to stats in the next patch. This is ONLY for patches, no new ships or elaborate concepts for the next expansion. This is for dealing with peoples’ concerns about balance. If there’s a balance idea you have that’s not on here, post it and I’ll put it up for voting if it seems valid. I love the fact that ICO pays attention to the forums and what people suggest, I’d like to make it easier for them. The idea is to have all ideas posted straight forward and ranked so the DEVS don’t have to sift through pages and pages to find popular ideas. SP and MP players are both welcome to comment. Post yay or nay for any idea you like or dislike (be specific please) or say no fix needed. If you’d like I’ll also insert specific values you may come up with. Some votes will be taken from other threads.

BUGS

Since the last patches release, the main complaint I've seen on the forums are in the form of bugs, so I'm compiling a list of the known ones, and will update the list as more are discovered. Some of the early bugs were fixed in the hotfix, and perhaps (fingers crossed) the Devs will release another hotfix to address the rest, rather than a whole new patch. So here it goes:

- Nano Weapons Jammer autocast AI casts continuously

- AM Recharger autocast AI casts continuously

- Illuminator causes mystery damage between shots

- Phasic Trap research Level 2 still has no effect.

- Orkulus Phase Stabilizer does not work on stars.

- Random Map Bugs:

              - Single Phase lane starts

              - No connected Asteroids

              - Overlapping Gravity Wells

- Backwards Dunov Icon

- Pathing Improvements (specifically dealing with stationary obstacles)

- Orkulus commands cancelled when trade ships dock

- No wave cannon sounds on Kortul

- Resource extractors on HWs produce income before they're constructed.

- PAWELOS BUG HUNTING

- Siege Militia/pirates run from turrets before construction is complete (exploit).

DELIVERANCE ENGINE

Without a doubt the weakest of the superweapons, there is little point in seeking it. For too long its been sitting in a dusty box on the shelf, to weak to be worth its tremendous costs. Lets consider some buffs to at least make it functional as a weapon. The one buff thats been suggested that I like is an instant allegiance drop, which will aid Advent in cultural takeovers of border planets and with enough, could possibly overthrow an enemy planet (though Id say it should require many more than the fearsome novalith)

EMPIRE TREE

As I feel that the devs decision to put "Phase Jumping" ships at the top of the tree was purposeful and not a bug, I think most of us agree that the constant movement it creates (especially with phase monitoring!) makes the empire tree difficult to use. Move it to the bottom?

FIGHTERS

Some are unsatisfied with fighters with regards to surviving flak. I urge everyone to read the points of debate between Mindseye and myself starting on page 10-11, to get a better understanding of why fighters should or should not be adjusted. Below are a few suggestions

MAPS

Raging Amish has proposed some modest changes to maps that I think we could possibly have implemented with enough support, so lets get a vote to see what people think of them. Magnetic clouds are huge wastes of space as their is nothing terribly beneficial about them. People with ability heavy fleets and caps would opt to fight you somewhere else (and can do so without much penalty). They make awful chokepoints because you can't put starbases or mines there, and they offer no economic value. I'd like to hear some ideas on how to improve them (beyond removing them completely from the game as RA has suggested). If we can come up with some good ones I'll put them up for a vote. In the meantime, I think one should at least be able to construct Starbases here, so I'll put that up as a topic. Also, all too often we see Ice and Volcanic planets  (which require research to colonize) offering you only 2 resource mines for the trouble of colonizing them. Personally I don't think that PLANETS should have less resources to offer than an asteroid. What do you think?

Now, I think it's safe to say that we're beyond the point of the DEVS making a Vasari Assault cruiser and making the Orky stationary. SCOUT FRIGATES

A hotly debated topic right now on the forums, none can deny their increased presence on the MP battlefield. As the cheapest buildable unit in the game, as well as being tier 0, its utility against long ranged frigates has been thoroughly exploited. The question remains, is it balanced? This topic will be split into two sections, a general section for a blanket nerf and a more specific section for interspecies balance. The reason for this is that some think scouts need to be weaker in general, whike other think they need to be balanced on par wtih TEC scouts.

RAVASTRA SKIRMISHERS

While the most expensive light frigate in both resources and supply, these ships have the worst DPS per supply. With the recent buff to all light frigs, Cobalts and Disciples are now delivering on the tasks they're meant to, yet skirmishers are still struggling. So what should be done?

I'm lowering my estimate to 2-3 weeks, seeing as the time between the first hints and the release of the patch notes was much shorter this time.  Also the patch is much smaller to begin with.

I think the fix will only coem witht eh end of diplomacy when it comes out of beta. Or at best shortly before diplomacy is released.

I suggest the following further improvements, some minor, but maybe they just need to be posted in some visible place. Some could be fixed much better, but that would be too sophisticated I suppose:

- fix orkulus not approaching enemy ships close enough (seems to think it has them in weapon range when it doesn't)

Buff Volatile Nanites
- increase the radius of Volatile nanites (application & death splash) or
- double the death splash radius and increase damage slightly

Pulse upgrade tree
- double pulse beam upgrade bonuses (only caps use these so even 5x the damage with a linked tier 3-4 research would not mess anything) or
- make pulse beam upgrades increase bombing damage as well.
- greatly increase the range bonus on the Pinpoint Bombardment.

Wave upgrade:
- reduce tier

Colony Pods:
- increase revenue

Anybody think the Orky's Disintegrator Beams should be improved by the Pulse Beam Upgrade?  In my opinion, it makes no sense that it DOESN'T at the moment - in addition, since it's the Vasari's Anti-Structure option, it would really give opponents something to go, "AHH!  FF! FF! FF!"

Take note that Disintegrator Arrays is the only weapon on any starbase which is has no corresponding upgrade.

An option to make Pulse Beam upgrades affect disintegrators would score a big fat YAY from me.

Oh and add colony pods buff. They're useless - the worst possible source of income, viable only on ultra-long games on a backyard starbase. Take starbase slots, cost craploads of cash, give almost nothing and that nothing doesn't scale at all. Tradeports increase income via chains, refineries via increased number of nearby asteroids, even population gives more income from culture; colony pods never increase their measly effectiveness.

And once again I would request a speed buff for Assailant's phase missiles, at least so that an assailant can not fire a phase missile at a target before the previous missile hits and destroys it. This completely screws up assailants in large battles, cause lums kill and reaquire two targets before an assailant group notices that their target is dead and they've just wasted a salvo.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Orky needs more love. :grin:

On that note, something that's been bugging me is the Orky's amazing vulnerability to bombers/fighters.  Yes, I realize ALL starbases have this weakness, but since the Orky can freely move about its gravity well, I NEVER get it any fighter bays (I always max fighter bays for the Argonev and Transcencia, just so you know, and no, I don't play MP, but still).

This shortcoming does not have any real fix for the Orky, except for running after the carriers or caps with the fighters, which is not exactly doable for an Orky, or surrounding the SB with Junsurak Sentinels, which is rather wasteful of supply.

I know I'll get attacked from BOTH sides for saying this, but maybe we could add a flak-type attack to the Orky that could attack fighters/bombers.  I dunno what kind of damage type it'd use, but I figured I'd throw this idea out and see what everyone thinks.  (Ducks in anticipation of various flamings)

But to put more thought to the Debris Vortex idea, when you think about it, Fighters and Bombers may as well be debris at that size, considering the leftover debris from a ship gone "boom" is about the size of a fighter/bomber.  As I said, it makes sense when you think about it. :P

While we are on this topic....I want the TEC SB Resupply to effect SC also. Oh and buff the HP regen too. I think that be fair.

Oh ok, so.. you want the Orkulus to have zero weaknesses? Its already hard enough to kill one with assault cruisers, as it can eliminate their range advantage (adjudicators are useless, and you need a BUNCH of expensive Ogrovs if you want to take one down.) and you want to make them even harder for strikecraft to kill? Consider this: VASARI DO NOT HAVE AN ASSAULT CRUISER, how the hell is a Vasari player supposed to deal with the Orkulus if it can just suck up all your bombers and heal itself? How about Advent? No im sorry, while that may seem like a good idea, its actually a TERRIBLE idea. Bombers are the MOST reliable way to kill a Starbase, and even then they aren't that reliable. Theres already plenty of ways to stop bombers cold, there does NOT need to be more. Orkulus is the best defense already, and yeah I agree that with a lack of AOE damage effects, it loses power later in the game, but ALL STARBASES have a reasonable weakness, because without it, there is not a reasonable way to destroy one, or two, or ten. How are you going to reasonably take down that Vasari player in the eco spot with Orkies at almost every planet? Starbases are not supposed to be the end all be all of defenses, they're designed to stall and slow down attacking fleets primarily, and secondly deal some damage to the foolish. The way I understand it is that the Orkulus's lack of AOE damage abilities is balanced by the fact that Vasari have to travel the least amount of distance with their fleet to defend a planet, and by the fact that it can move. (not to mention vasari have the best single unit HP restore in the overseer.) Sure I'd love t if the Orky could better handle large late game fleets that decide to rush it (because you would never rush an Argonev or a Transcenscia late game), but cutting down on one of its fundamental weaknesses (a weakness that all starbases share) would make the thing unreasonably difficult to destroy. Period.

As I stated, Deciever, it was just an idea - I know it's crazy-powerful, but I was merely tossing the idea out for a discussion.

Although, it does make me wonder...I seldom put DV on my Orkies (only one around my "Homeworld Star"); does anyone else use this ability?

Deceiver, do get a break. Everybody knows it's not gonna happen :P

edit. Mike, I use very often. If you're in a major fleet fight, a single use of DV can restore a couple thousand hit points on the orky. It's the best thing since sliced bread. Well, second best.
