Twilight Feedback! Let us have it!

We're going to do an update this week

Greetings!

We hope you're enjoying Twilight of the Arnor. We had a great time working on it.

The digital distribution portion of Twilight is a real challenge versus what we've done in the past. With most games, we have an actual CD or DVD to work from.  Here, we're putting thousands of different files on various servers.

So what we plan to do this week (probably tomorrow) is do a minor cleaning house update on anything that might have gotten "left behind".  I saw someone mention that the Altarian tech tree has a "todo" description for instance.  We also will put in some code to clean up some of the settings for those who ran the beta (if you can't make custom opponents, there's your cause - delete the directory my documents\my games\gc2twilight and you should be set).

So use this thread to tell us anything you saw that you think needs to be tweaked or that we may have missed and we should be able to resolve it tomorrow as it's just a matter of putting the files on the server.  For anyone who runs into that, we apologize for any inconvenience.

"Custom Candidate?"

+1 ?

And sorry for being pain in the a$$ but I would really like the bugsaddressed :), at least someone from SD acknowledged "we know about them" would be nice.

The Korath do not appear to have any tech for improving galactic resource starbases or economic starbases.

"Custom Candidate?"
Uh...too much time with Political Machine (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/the-political-machine-2008/848621p1.html)

Candidate == Civilization

...someone from SD acknowledged "we know about them" would be nice.
Read the sig, baby! Me saying that 'we're looking into it' is a pretty solid acknowledgement that the bugs are being 'looked into' :P

Is anyone else unable to submit games to the Metaverse? I've finished two Metaverse games, and each time, it goes to the victory screen, then to the score screen, then back to the main Twilight menu, without giving a chance to submit to the Metaverse. A bit off the topic, but I've tried to post this a couple of times on in the Twilight forum, and the posts don't show up, which is odd.

edit: Just played a third game, and that one submitted without issue. Strange that the others did not.

re-edit: That game just showed up on the Metaverse, and was cheat flagged. I have no idea why. I used a custom race, but did nothing else out of the ordinary. Does anyone know of an explanation for such occurances?

Was it a newly made custom race only edited in-game, or was it hand edited or from the beta? Also, by a 'quick' game might it have been less than 12 turns (spore rush, etc)?

Do you still have the end game saves for those games?  Whenever you have a problem submitting games to the metaverse, you should zip the end game save, your debug.err, and the xml files from My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\Metaverse and send them to [email protected].  If you put all the files in one zip, it will be easiest to open.  If you don't still have the older end game saves, just send in what you have so I can check to see if there's something wrong with the serials in your registry.

Hmm i only mention this as tweak because im assuming Stardock forgot to include a new picture for the starport, looks horrible compared to the newer versions of other buildings and its on almost every planet. Can we have a nice pretty new one since its probably the most widely used building in the entire game.

Gravity Accelerators is broken

when u purchase it the game will crash

believe the SpecialID 3 is missing

Kryo, the game that was cheat flagged was with a new custom race created in game, but it also was an 11 turn spore rush win. Are games that finish in 12 turns or under cheat flagged?

Cari, I'm currently downloading a compression utility so I can zip the files and send them over.

Thank you both very much for your help! :)

Well, i really do want the Events' list screen with its essential bottom row of parsing_selectable Icons back! (Dunno if this is caused by MY setup or somethin', soooo has anyone else noticed the same issue also?)

Otherwise, i must delve deeper into a few more things (plenty, btw) before i should chime in with interesting (ahem, caugh-caugh) enough details. :)

Hi-Hi ;) Mine is a Hangar tilted, with a greeny SkyRanger parked in it, back walls shooting up reddish thunder sparks to the blackened skydrop, tiny alpha_channeled ball in the bottom left showing through the underneath terrain quality and an obvious StackedShips tag ala GC2 arrowy cue to the right side (ONE Query only, btw) -- but RED to represent Military category! Blue=Research, Economy=Yellow, Influence=Cyan etc.

Almost nothing stops you from providing whatever may fit your better ideas & wishes; Any 128x128 32b PNGS and you're good to go.

Set up a game yesterday with super abilities unchecked on first screen. However, a few screens later, my Terran character was showing a Super Diplomat super ability. Sent an email w/ prefs.ini & debug.err attached.

I have multiple instances of string not found in various screends throughout TA. I have uninstalled and deleted the folder you specified, reinstalled and still have the same problems in the same screens. I have taken screen shots of the problem screens for your viewing pleasure but I can't see how to load these to this page.

First save them with some graphics software like Paint , then upload them to http://www.imageshack.us/ and post a link here as an image.

Frogboy,

Amazing expansion. Well worth the money.

I have to admit feeling a little ripped off with some recent expansions of other long-standing franchises. But with ToA is almost feels like GC3. I feel like a noob again.

Great job.

One q: Just noticed a patch to 1.91. Thanks much for the quick updating! Any chance you can say what was fixed?

Great Game!

Hope to be delivered from the String Not Found errors. :)

The first thing I did after installing Twilight of the Arnor was to use the TechTree Editor. I quickly noticed that if you add as little as ONE technology in an existing TechTree the game crashes. However it seems to work fine if you make a compleatly new TechTree, but that is very time consuming.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm not sure if its the same one I've noticed, but if you open up a tech tree using the editor, you might notice that the first tech in the list has the second tech as a prerequisite. This error can be saved thus changing the arrangement of the tech tree.

Whats more wierd is, its possible this bug will make a tech that unlocks another, require the unlocked tech as a prerequisite. This ofcourse will cause the game to crash while trying to use the new tech tree.

For example, open up the Arcean tech tree and you should see 'Adamantium Armor' has 'Adamantium II' as a prerequisite. It instead be showing 'Kanvium III' as its prerequisite. Since you end up with 2 techs requiring each other, but nothing else unlocks them, the game will crash.

________________
You can fix the prerequisite error yourself by changing the required tech.

I have the Same problems as others have noted here. Unable to get this game to run.

No new Races..all the same as in Dread Lords..Not able to change Race..Not able to change character or ..view of the ..race.

I totally uninstalled Gal civ..all three games, and then reinstalled. Same problem.

Sure anxious for a workaround.

Thanks

So what we plan to do this week (probably tomorrow) is do a minor cleaning house update on anything that might have gotten "left behind".

I think the 'Efficiency Center' planet improvement needs a look at. It has a placement limit of 1. As such, the Yor can only expect to build only 2 economy structures, the 'Efficiency Center' and the 'Recruiting Center'. Every other civ can freely spam whatever economic structures they naturally get.

If the Yor want to build more economy structures, they would have somehow get the appropiate techs from somewhere else (such as buying them). Unlike the Yor, every other civ has these techs (in one form or another) on their tech trees.

Kay, figured what to do in the case of the strange CivEventWnd file;

What got distributed is this one______; 06/29/07 @ 15:25 size=60041.
And the working DA version showed as__; 06/29/07 @ 17:42 size=109087.

Which explains why i didn't have the bottom row of Icons in that screen. Having verified this condition in ObjectX proved it to me.
Simply changed it with the 'previous' version.

Although this may be an isolated case for a mixed up packaging flaw, i have to wonder if some OTHER stuff went awry during the rush to put the 360+MBs release file in SDC.
I'm sure staff will fix whatever needs to in subsequent updates.

So, all good & running smooth (except when my own_complex_designed ships start to fill up in the roaster and become activated on map -- seem there's some tiny delays for the engine to pick up with the silly slow CPU i have onboard!)...
Real nice top-left Ascension progress boxy (# turns remaining), btw; Can i get an option to simply turn it off or move it around, somehow? :) ;)

Well, this is not really a bug, but it's "bugging" me. Why aren there shortcuts to the very cool Editor tools? During the installation I kinda hoped they would show up on the menu. Be proud of those!!! They're very cool.

Also, a race design editor, along the lines of the other editors might be good. Just a thought.

Thus far I haven't had any notable experinces, yet. But then, I'm just getting into it so stay tuned. By the way, nice opening movie!!! The woman who does the VO has a great voice.

Is there any way to install Battle Stations or any other weapon modules onto Thalan starbases? Without weapons, their fancy Singularity Armor doesn't seem to do much -- even a minimally armed fighter can destroy a major starbase with ease.

Am I overlooking something obvious?

If you don't like using the launcher widget, all of the Editor tools are located here:

C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Twilight\Tools

And are called:

GC2MapEditor.exe
GC2ScenarioEditor.exe
GC2CampaignEditor.exe
GC2TechTreeEditor.exe
GC2ShipComponentEditor.exe
GC2ImprovementEditor.exe

Just go there, find the appropriate program you want, and create a shortcut (or six!) on your Desktop or in your Start Menu.
