Twilight Feedback! Let us have it!

We're going to do an update this week

Greetings!

We hope you're enjoying Twilight of the Arnor. We had a great time working on it.

The digital distribution portion of Twilight is a real challenge versus what we've done in the past. With most games, we have an actual CD or DVD to work from.  Here, we're putting thousands of different files on various servers.

So what we plan to do this week (probably tomorrow) is do a minor cleaning house update on anything that might have gotten "left behind".  I saw someone mention that the Altarian tech tree has a "todo" description for instance.  We also will put in some code to clean up some of the settings for those who ran the beta (if you can't make custom opponents, there's your cause - delete the directory my documents\my games\gc2twilight and you should be set).

So use this thread to tell us anything you saw that you think needs to be tweaked or that we may have missed and we should be able to resolve it tomorrow as it's just a matter of putting the files on the server.  For anyone who runs into that, we apologize for any inconvenience.

I have multiple instances of string not found in various screends throughout TA. I have uninstalled and deleted the folder you specified, reinstalled and still have the same problems in the same screens. I have taken screen shots of the problem screens for your viewing pleasure but I can't see how to load these to this page.

As others have pointed out, for some reason, on Vista, if GalCiv isn't run in the admin mode that happens. We're not sure why and it doesn't happen to most people. We're looking into it.  Vista remains...a problematic gaming platform.

Probably Vista's "Live Folders"

"Custom Candidate?" Uh...too much time with Political Machine (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/the-political-machine-2008/848621p1.html)
Candidate == Civilization
[...]

I think you mean Candidate = Civilization, otherwise it would just give false ... *duck* .... :P

I hope it was mentioned before (sorry, if I spoil something, I hope I don't)
In the campaign mission Conflagration you start with 10.000 DC and 5 addition ships (plus the usual one). These ships have very high maintenance costs. To tell the truth too high. I couldn't enter a positive income before I hit 0 and I used an economy bonus.
- Please tell that I'm just to stupid to play this game ... :P

Again about the campaign:
- I know you mentioned that the best way to have an easy life in the campaign is to defeat the DLs as fast as possible. Is this even possible? - Every planet is defended with not easy to beat ship, unless you have enough firepower, which won't be easy, when you need to tech up and fight korath scum. The plus, it gives me a goal to reach: Tech up and get a good fleet before the DLs enter the battle with these annoying all devouring ships.

Feedback:
- I shouldn't play the campaign and enjoy the metaverse.

Just started playing TA today for the first time, I preordered ages ago but avoided the betas to try the final product. Just want to say, absolutely FANTASTIC work! I am amazed by how much work and effort has been put into making each race truly unique, and it's great to see their histories and cultures fleshed out so well into the game. DA made a good start towards making each race unique, but today I was awestruck the first time opening the Drath's technology tree! Turn 1 took about 40 minutes to complete, I was overwhelmed just trying to figure out where to start with research! Anyways 7 months into the first game and so far so good.

Im seeing same kind of problems as in previous GalCiv 2 iterations. Real slowdowns when processing movement. Hang ups until I tell something to sentry. Sound is being funny, like the music will hang playing the same note 3-4 times before moving on.. Gameplay is overall slightly better. Smaller planets, and cool one per planet buildings with no maintenance help out with the economic nightmare of the game. But overall econ is the same dreadful thing I hated in all the previous games.

I like the new animated ship parts. But I'm still unable to resize multiple objects at the same time. Unless I'm missing something.

AI seems to make silly decisions, like agreeing to pay for peace and declaring war on me the next turn!

Something tells me that Drath is responsible, they have such an annoying tendency to set the galaxy into war.

Does anyone get messages from other aliens you haven't have diplomatic relations with? I'm playing as the Yor as technologist and while getting a large lead in techs at the begining, I'm getting these messages from the AI that they are researching this tech and that tech and should be shootings sparks out of my cranium in fear.

Great feedback guys.
We're looking through the reports. Some people are reporting running into bugs. The thing is, as you all know, this wasn't rushed. We were playing it tons and tons before release and haven't run into the kinds of problems some of you have run into.
I think the main thing is that people are playing it differently than we are I think.  Also, we did release one update that took care of the various string issues that some of you ran into.
That said, as others have pointed out, Stardock's an indie. We can release updates to you essentially indefinitely. We are closely reading the forums.  The more specifics we get, the better.

I've been playing the betas since the begining. For those just getting ToA he's not exaggerating -- there were almost no bugs with the final beta. I assume that all these bugs have their root in the items added to the last beta.

I'll say this so no one gets annoyed w/Stardock, "Please check that all of your drivers are up to date."; and "Remember folks, no matter how much playtesting is done -- you may have the "one" PC configuration none of the beta testers had,so yes you are a beta tester."

Hi!Great expansion but still needs some work. Stardock hasn't let us down so far so I'm feeling they'll come through. One thing: I've had the turn button grey out twice, so I can't continue the game without saving and restarting.Thing Two: This one's a matter of taste, I guess. But for me I think the old planetary battle screen with its two opposing armies was much more expressive and exciting than the new one. I just liked it better now that I've seen both.Still a great game!

If the turn button disappears, try hitting space bar, tab, or enter. This happens to me and it appears that the game is hung up on a ship not moving when it's supposed to be on autopilot or not doing what it is supposed to. Hitting space bar skips the ships move (iirc) and then the turn is processed and the button reappears at the start of the next turn.

Okay, now I have a strange thing. My Vista problems only appear in the campaign. The normal mode runs smooth as far as I have played it. Okay, Torians appear to be a bit aggressive, but I think it is just funny. Oh, an humans are even more aggressive versus evil races and are very good in research, this is just cool.

I'm moving this over here.

Selecting multiple ships should allow them all to move at once, instead of waiting around for a dozen ships to move one at a time.

Allow more characters for naming ships with the ability to put the curser anywhere, like in a text editor, or auto numbering. Star Avenger 1,2,3 and so on.

Set rally points for a planet just by selecting the planet then right clicking were you want your rally point.

The ability to set a keep focus point so events don't jump you around the map. I know you can stop this but most of the time it's nice but other times it's a real pain. You could have it jump to the event but then automatically return to your focus point.

Symmetry in the ship build screen. You select symmetry x,y or z and a duplicate of the component is attached to the exact opposite point.

The manual is very dissapointing! There are several scenarios like "Dread Lords dominion" in the basic game setup, but I've not even the slightest clue of how they work, because I can't find any information about them. Neither in the game help nor in the manual. Is it a secret?

Some things I have noticed.

As mentioned before, when on the Civilization monitor screen, if I go to a planet and make changes, these changes are not reflected in the Monitor screen until refreshed. It's a small thing but still.

Also, I have had several instances where the game has forgotten to end a turn. What I mean by this is, I hit the turn button and watch the ships move, etc... and I never get the turn button back. This happens only rarely and I can't replicate it because I don't have a clue on what causes it, or what factors to play with to replicate it.

I have noticed when on the Civilization Monitor screen, the mini-map flickers sometimes. This isn't a major thing and causes no damage, but just wanted to mention it.

Other than that, I love the game. I am so addicted too it that I sometimes forget to do things like sleep and eat. My Fiancee did forgive me for forgetting her birthday though, once she pried me away from the computer.

Terror Stars: I want....

A terror star that is a death star. Full of weapons, shields, etc. plus the ability to blow up stars - a one unit fleet of death.

It is the coolness factor - nothing else. Anyone who can actually build the sucker with all the required tech is already smashing the universe! Where it would be cool is where multiple races on a gigantic/immense galaxy are fielding them - sort of a battle of the Titans.

Make Terror Stars the ultimate HUGE ship with normal capabilities + the ability to destroy stars (although I would prefer planet destruction myself....)

My main complaint is about Espionage. The pricing structure is EXTREMELY ludicrous, and losing those extremely expensive Spies is waaaay too easy.

In GC2DL, Espionage boiled down to dumping in money and eventually getting detailed Intelligence reports on the spied upon race. In DA, Spies were added to get more of a "hands on" feel -- but that's also when the ludicrous pricing started.

I think you should go back to the DL in-depth Intel reports, with an option to invest in Spy _networks_. You can reserve a Spy network for Counter-Espionage, or send it to a specific planet for infiltration to do whatever. If Nullified (spotted and compromised), instead of entirely losing the Spy network, it must be extracted and redeploy to the home reserve. The penalty for being compromised is that you lose the ability to use it for a number of weeks (2-4 I suggest) while the team extracts itself and then transits back to home base. And any Spy networks held in reserve can be used to specifically deploy to Nullify an enemy Spy incursion on a given planet. (While deployed thusly, no longer available in the reserve.) Once having Nullified an enemy Spy incursion, that particular Spy network must similarly spend time in transit to get back to base.

This, I think, would be far more reasonable than what is currently in place.

Admit it you made this game just so I could not get a good nights sleep  ;) .

All kidding aside this is the game of my dreams easy modding ( built in editors ) so I can adjust things according to my mood , if i want to relax or face a challange. A ship design system thats almost a game unto itself.

Consider me a loyal customer until they pry my cold dead hands off my keyboard.
