Twilight Feedback! Let us have it!

We're going to do an update this week

Greetings!

We hope you're enjoying Twilight of the Arnor. We had a great time working on it.

The digital distribution portion of Twilight is a real challenge versus what we've done in the past. With most games, we have an actual CD or DVD to work from.  Here, we're putting thousands of different files on various servers.

So what we plan to do this week (probably tomorrow) is do a minor cleaning house update on anything that might have gotten "left behind".  I saw someone mention that the Altarian tech tree has a "todo" description for instance.  We also will put in some code to clean up some of the settings for those who ran the beta (if you can't make custom opponents, there's your cause - delete the directory my documents\my games\gc2twilight and you should be set).

So use this thread to tell us anything you saw that you think needs to be tweaked or that we may have missed and we should be able to resolve it tomorrow as it's just a matter of putting the files on the server.  For anyone who runs into that, we apologize for any inconvenience.

I did uninstall and delete the proper directories and reinstalled. The create custom opponents and create custom ship styles are still greyed out. Also seems if I run through the setup screens then back out to the main menu the Metaverse and Tournaments buttons are greyed out. I have to restart the game to get them back.

And me. Both.

I just tried to install on my laptop that had the beta installed. Before I tried to install at all, I uninstalled the beta and deleted the twilight folder from the Program Files directory. I went to delete the my documents\my games\gc2twilight folder, and didn't even have one. I installed the expansion, and I am still not able to create a race.

I did exactly the same, purged it all, reinstalled, got exactly the same symptoms as described by DethAdder in post 1.

Thanks Stardock for the expansion. Looks good and quite polished for the amount of tweaks. I did find some little issues that may be easy to fix in a patch.

One of these is that when you buy a planetary improvement, the next turn update seems to always advise you that your planet is now idle, no matter that there are items in the queue, and which the game correctly identifies as next to do. The gameplay works, but it generates an incorrect advisory note.

As well, I get diplomatic messages whose text needs editing. For instance the mean Drengin told me something like "Hello, we finally meet Greetings $user name in this galaxy..."

I also am stuck with the greyed out "create custom opponent" button despite deleting the old galciv2twilight directory and having the game create a full fresh new one. So that fix does not seem to work for all.

Thanks to the development team for the hard work and the openness to feedback!

I am experiencing this as well.

I just wanted to say that the expansion is great! I love all the new content and the updated textures are awesome!

Is it just me or is the manual the Dark Avatar manual with a Twilight of Arnor cover page?

Until I ran into my crash which is preventing me from continuing the game (see bug report forum), I was definitely liking the new expansion. It changes the core gameplay enough that I have to play differently now, so that's a good thing. If I want to play the old way, I can just load up DA.

I do have a problem with the Civilization Manager spreadsheet. Many changes aren't updated until you refresh the window. If I double-click a planet name, change the queue and close the planet window, the spreadsheet isn't updated with my changes. I have to hit F6 to update.

On a more positive note, I really like the idea of the Tournaments a lot. It creates a more direct competition, which is a better substitute for multiplayer than the general Metaverse. It'll be interesting to see the ridiculous scores some people will eventually be able to produce.

You know what I loved? That you finally got rid of the glare (without a mod) on the UI panels. It was a minor change but one that I greatly appreciate. :CONGRAT:

Another "me too" for this symptomatology.

Thalan's "neutral" description when they research XenoEthics indicates that they get NLC. Pick Neutral and the NLC doesn't show up in the tech tree.

Not just you. Brad mentioned elsewhere that he's still working on the ToA manual.

3 things I've noticed:

- When starting as a custom race in a new game, I can que up a colony ship on "Turn 0" (approx 26 turns to build), Save the game, Exit, restart, and load the game and the Colony ship will be at "0 weeks left" and will build on turn 1.

This sounds familiar, was there a quirk like this in DA?

- After fooling around/exploring the tech tree, in certian instances the "TURN" button will disappear to be left with a grey blank button.

- The mod directory sets to X/X/galciv2/mods (which cannot me changed from within the game). This is used by DL. DA uses X/X/galciv2/DarkAvatar/mods. There is no mod directory in the Twilight directories. Is that intended?

Yep still a bit too many bugs on my taste:
Look here
but the game itself almost perfect.

Two things is missed thou - being able to spy without disabling someone else's buildings and ability to propose "UN" decisions by yourself.

Small complaint with AI: On average, it's almost too easy to buy planets off of them. While they were in my terrortory, they were close to the border (and newly colonized).

The AI also will build a starport, but no factories..
(This was while playing Average)

Does the research take more 'money' to get later on? It seems like research just becomes easier and easier to get, instead of getting harder. I have a stronger economy for researching, but still..

When making ships, "Your style" sure seems like all my other styles for the other races.

When laoding a game, influence borders are often much smaller. But it's probably to reduce loading and startup time.

If a space miner is set to automate but nothing is left for it to do, and then you set it to auto explore, the ship will prevent the turn button from returning. After pressing tab and moving the ship, the button returns. Perhaps giving a different 'auto' command should cancel the 'automate' order?

Xeno Mysticism _still_ has no description. This has been reported before multiple times.

My biggest complaint is that if you minimize Twilight from fullscreen, when you go click it back out of minimize mode it crashes.

LOVE the unique stuff, really makes all the races feel different.

I was rather miffed about the bonus shifting, as the Altarians of DL/DA fit my preferences perfectly, I could get them to a 60/40/60 econ/morale/research bonus. Still, it's not an actual complaint, I adapted well enough. I think I might have even done better without the econ bonus as a crutch.

I do support Lord KiRon though, those are really good. The spying especially because having espionage dependent on spies makes it difficult, as your spies are constantly being neutralized, and I typically play on beginner as I like to not be have to worry constantly. And it would go a long way toward maing diplomatic advantage seem like a big thing if the UN aspect of the game were expanded somewhat. Because right now, let's face it, diplomacy doesn't do anything special. You get better deals, but so what? You could get most anything you get in a deal some other way. Research, influence or war.

The first thing I did after installing Twilight of the Arnor was to use the TechTree Editor. I quickly noticed that if you add as little as ONE technology in an existing TechTree the game crashes. However it seems to work fine if you make a compleatly new TechTree, but that is very time consuming.

Has anyone else had this problem?

*Shrug* Care to explain more about your tech? What you were adding / trying to do?

(Stupid broken edit)

If creating a new tech tree is such a pain in the ass, just go fine the XTechTree.xml and copy-paste another tree into it. Do it the old fashioned way.

lol  Probably cause it's 4 in the morning but that new tech made me laugh quite a bit :)

The spy thing was on our 2.0 list, but I don't think we ever intended on doing the 'Propose UP Desisions' thing.  :NOTSURE:

I'm looking into the Custom Candidate issue (I'm really suprised it got under our radar). We'll have a fix for tomorrow (er...today).

It doesn't matter, I've tried everything, the game just crashes.

Also, even after reinstalling the expansion, I still can't create custom opponents.

I was wondering if there was still a 2.0 coming down the pipe line later
