Round 8 Details

This is an ALL VICTORY Round!!!

This Round will take place on a SMALL map with FIVE Opponents.





Since this is an ALL VICTORIES Round its setup is different than previous rounds. A Team is required to get a Victory of Each Type (Conquest, Alliance, Technological, and Influence) to receive the Base 8 points. Also, unlike 'normal' rounds, All Victory Rounds only allow for a Bonus Point for fastest game and highest scoring game in each category (so still only 8 individual bonus points available). 

At the end of this round, which will end at 11:59:59pm FORUM TIME ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30TH, 2008 we plan on holding a Draft. Setup for the Draft will be the same as before. More details will be given once Round 8 is over.

I had been thinking that teams were using the strategy of waiting til near the end of the round to see what the others would submit first. It is getting a bit late though...

Here's a couple alternative ideas for the upcoming season/rounds. If we have significant numbers of people dropping out we could shrink back down to 4 teams. Or we could simply have just 3 or 4 people on each team to begin with, and change the base points of 8 to six instead if needed.

How many people are out for the next round in any case? For Team D, RexDaddy is still MIA, and he hasnt logged on here since 3/7, or responded to any messages, although he still plays the daily trivia game at the Core. He also hasnt submitted any games since to the MV since 2/29.

Nothing from GalenEvil for a while either.

From what I have been told: Dystopic, CraigHB, DethAdder, and Marshall need a break next round; it sounded like Mumble could use one too. I am unsure of the status of GalenEvil, Vegjed, and Berzelius. Rex and Elwood seem to be out. I believe TGE and Motti were able to play next round, though TGE wasn't fully sure. DSep and Sunburn4 are our newest players but as of yet haven't played a round.

There are certainly many things that can be done in various circumstances. However I'd prefer if we focused on the positive rather than the negative. If numbers drop then they drop and we deal with it but most of us have been going for 8 months straight and simply could use a break. I don't think we need to start considering contigency plans for decreasing numbers because talk like that can become self fufilling prophecy.

It's only natural that people come and go and we have been steadily growing even though it has been two steps forward a one step back. I don't think the desire for a break is anything to worry overmuch about.

Actually a one month "break" at the end of every "season" is not really a bad thing to incorporate into our normal schedule.

As far as Sunburn he does have what appears to be a qualifying game and I assume he's simply looking to better it. He did register at ToE but hasn't made a post there yet. I've left him PM's both here and there and I expect him to submit this round. Of course newer players aren't used to anything and do represent the biggest risk.

Well, it almost didn't happen, but here's my pitiful submission for round 8:



I don't expect to be around for the bonus round, but I think it's a great idea. I would like to be able to participate again come June, and will watch out for the start of rumblings for a draft. I figure if I can't even log in enough to spot that coming, I have no business being on a team...

Silver, FYI - nobody on team B has expressed interest in becoming captain in my place. I'm going to stir up the discussion again on our forum, but there are no takers to date.

Very nice submissions. I've got a little something up my sleeve too... lets hope it doesn't disappoint my expectations... or yours.

Also, I've heard absolutely nothing from Elwood whatsoever since last round but I do believe he's been playing the core trivia game. Idazen mentioned that he completed a game but he hasn't submitted it to the meta yet. Still waiting to hear back from him. Though if he doesn't submit soon, Team C will be down 1 victory condition. Amalric also informed that he won't be able to submit due to RL concerns.

Team D may have a problem too. I don't know if any of the 3 players on my team doing a conquest victory will be submitting. I may try a quick game tonight myself to have a backup ready to submit, so at least we dont miss out on the 2 base points.

We could open it for anyone in the league that is interested in being a captain. We could also vote on it but I'm not sure we would really want to go through all of that. I would suggest just asking for volunteers and if there is more than one leave the choice up to the commissioner.

We actually probably don't need one for a bit though. We only need one prior to the draft and even in that case it may be dependent on the number of players we have when we start the next season.

BTW were we agreed that the draft should happen after the bonus round?

I am not sure where to post this but this seemed like a good place.
Please do not include me for the next round's draft. I have been out of work for a month now and things just keep looking not-so-good. I am interviewing (getting ready to go to one right now in fact) but most companies seem to be looking for cheaper labor, especially in the IT sector. Cincinnati just isn't a big tech hub.
I feel the need to apologize to team C for my pitiful performance lately but I can only access my (or my wife's) computer for short periods in between small jobs that I have been doing to keep some money flowing. Enough time to check forums but not enough to play a game.

Here is a backup submission for Team D's conquest victory, because the assigned players did not complete a conquest game. I just had to knock this one out as quick as possible to get it done tonight, so no points-building tweaking, or anything...bleah.  :(  Tried to get a ZYW a few times, but couldnt quite do it. If I had more time, then I'm sure I could have though.

Here is a backup submission for Team D's conquest victory, because the assigned players did not complete a conquest game.

A minor point of order. I would agree that this game is a legitimate potential replacement for a teammates unannounced non-submission. However the point is that it may not necessarily be the *only* potential replacement and might not be the one actually used. One reasonable assumption is that this "submission" (i.e. it's not really a submission in the normal sense) does gaurantee that the team will not suffer the non-submission of a military conquest.

Quoting from the rules.

In the case where no notice is given, and if other members of the team have other games that satisfy the round’s criteria that have already been submitted to the metaverse then either the Commissioner or Vice Commissioner may randomly select one of these games to count towards the teams base score. In this case the team should identify *all* such games that satisfy the round’s criteria for possible selection not simply the *best* such game.

So basically if any other teammates happen to have a military conquest or if Kzinit has another such game that fits the rounds criteria then SB/FB should randomly pick among *all* such games. Note that if Kzinti's game happens to be the *only* such game then there is no need for a random selection.

I know it's a subtle distinction but it is an important distinction.

And that my friends is the end of Round 8, and likewise the second season of the Metaverse League.

@KP/Mumble: Yes, that is a correct distinction. However, and it is my fault for not announcing this to the MVL, but Kzinti had notified me about possible need for a back up about three weeks ago. We gave it until the 20th at which point I selected randomly from the known active players on his team, and still ended up with Kzinti, the go ahead to proceed with a backup game per that the other teammates failed to submit. This is per the following rule
Non-Submission

In the Single Victory round if a player neglects to submit a game then there is no issue as long as the team still has at least four other players that submitted a game. However, if the team only had four players to begin with then they would be missing one potential contribution to the team’s base score. If this non-submission is pre-announced (this is highly encouraged), then either the Commissioner or Vice Commissioner may randomly select another member of the team to submit another game to count towards the teams base score.


Since KP was able to fulfill the missing victory requirement, the corollary rule:
Finally these same rules apply in the case of an All Victories round but with an extra qualification. This extra requirement is that in an All Victories round each team is required to submit at least one game of each victory type. In this case the team may be required to use an “extra” game as described by the rules above that duplicates the victory type of an already submitted game. In this case for base scoring purposes that game would have to be considered a 1 point victory of the wrong type. Note that such a game could still receive individual and team bonus points based on the correct victory category.
