[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

CaptainH, I've also heard that too. Better start packing, only 100,000,000 million years until we get sucked in, we should be prepared to leave ;) :d

A nice idea with the insurgency. It is a planetary bonus somewhere, but the effects are limited (3 levels as I recall, Revolt, Insurgence, and War Torn). It does give me an idea, but the way to do it would require too much time with the present mod tools, and is a long winded way. If however, you could add abilities to planets (like plasma storms and asteroid belts have), but have them randomly, it would allow something like you mentioned possible.

Thanks again to everyone for the comments. They are always welcome.

Right. A little more info would be nice. What exactly are you having problems with? Getting it out of the .zip? Or not knowing where to put the files? Or confused over which files go where?

Can you elaborate please?

lmao some of my teachers in school told me that the history channel was a lie.

yes it is a theory, but thats why i said supposedly. they say that we know the size of planets orbiting other stars by using a star bypass..

thats something like the planet goes in front of the star and a shadow appears..

right.

Which is absolutely true. By measuring the exact brightness of the star before the planet passes in front, and the brightness when the planet passes in front, we can measure the relative size of the planet. The mass and composition however are something totally different.

95% of this kind of tech on the history and science channels is dead on. Its just that a lot of people (teachers included) have a hard time wrapping their heads around the science behind the discoveries, which is unfortunate.

Anyhow, getting off-topic now. :)

@ acid boy

it took me a long while to find where the mod path was.

C:Documents and Settings/User Name/LocalSettings/AppilcationData/Ironclad Games/Mods

Your Local Settings may be under the effect of a hidden file, like mine. you just have to play around with the settings until the folder appears.

Ok, I'm going to copy a post from another thread I just made, because it is relevant here.

Please, PLEASE, post a screen shot like this:

Or this:

We can only help you so much with install instructions and directory locations, but mistakes can easily be made. The second shot there is not mine, but someone posted it in my mod's Page after he was having problems. I immediately saw the problem and he was on his way. So please, take a PrtScn (PrintScreen), paste it into Paint, save it as a .jpeg, then go to ImageShack.us and upload your picture. Then copy the last link they give you after the upload, and paste it in to your reply.

This will eliminate any obvious problems, and then we can move on to other things that may be wrong.

A picture paints a thousand words, and it can't be described wrong either. Help us help you.

Is there anyway to to use these planet in the galaxy forge editer?

After playing with Galaxy Forge real quick, it looks like if you replace the original GalaxyScenarioDef.galaxyScenarioDef file with Uzii's, it'll enable the new planet selections. Please note that all new planets will appear in Galaxy Forge as a greyed-out planet (being there are no icons made for them).

Ocean, Rock (Barren), City (Urban), Forest, and New (Random Uzii Planet) will be selectable from the Properties --> Type drop-down box.

I haven't had a chance to test a map created this way, but don't see a reason for it not to work. Will have to test when I get home.

PS: Thank you so much for the mod, Uzii - it's an incredible addition to the game! :)

Great Mod, it def adds alot more strategy to the game. All the planets look really good and now gas giants arent tottaly useless. I personally dont know anything about modding but i think maybe the forest planet would look better without that wierd shaped lake.Still its a great mod and keep up the good work:)

Thanks for the positive comments, and the feedback on the Forest planet texture. Imight remove it if I get chance. I put it in because the planet looks very plain otherwise, but I agree it does look a little out of place.

ok thank u guys so much for the help and ive been able to make some advances in the mod installation, ok i got it installed and extracted, when im on the main menu in the game and i go to option and mods it shows texture and sins plus but when i go to play all the planets look black

hmm thats a little strange.
try reinstalling it, and follow the read me exactly.

that should work.
if it doesnt consult Uzii the all-knowing.

Hey Uzii, just something I'd like to comment on with your mod (as awesome as it is).

After playing a couple of games with it and having so much fun with the wartorn planet bonus, I decided to check your files to see how the bonuses are weighted. All the planets that had this bonus only listed it once, but on the desert planet, it was listed 4 times thus making it the most likely bonus to get on a desert planet versus all the others. Is this intentional? If it is, I'll just say that I think you've been watching too many Mad Max movies.

he knows that if sand gets in your vagina you get angsty and are more likely to start fighting.

Plausible as it is, no. :d

I figured this for a few reasons. Where resources are short, wars will ensue. That is the main reasoning behind it, look at the wars on Earth, not the major World Wars, but others. Either Religion or Resources are the causes of nearly all of them. On a planet with very limited water, vegetation, and other life, everything is a matter of life and death. You control the resources, you control the world. Also, a minor point was that considering its not far from a complete wasteland, Desert worlds were far too valuable in Vanilla.

@ Acidboy
Yes, it is a textures problem, and probably caused by not putting all the right texture files in the right folder. If there are any Vanilla textures that should have been replaced, they will cause something like this. Get back to me if its still not working.

While logical in one sense, not always true, as it happens.

The biggest wars are often over territories with lots of resources - it's called the curse of resources, (right now, for example, the curse of oil). If resources are there, everyone wants them, so battles, exploitation ensue; poverty often follows. Not always the case, there are many factors, but the Middle East is largely a target because of oil...

Now, this does assume a scarcity overall, but given humanity's unlimited desire for expansion, there is always likely to be a scarcity of some form. I assume that in a galactic society, where fast travel across large distances is possible, people will fight hardest and longest for resource-rich planets, and attempt to control them - especially where those resources only come from certain places.

Marko, not to drag this completely off-topic, but your oil example holds with Uzii's line of reasoning. The battles are fought over it because there simply isn't enough of it, to put it at an absurdly over-simplified level.
I imagine you could use an extension of that reasoning to explain the double Slaves bonus I have on a desert world...War -> More war -> Someone won and enslaved the rest -> free planet developments for me.

Lol, thats a nice way to think of it.

I hate to drag this out more, you(Marko) are correct, but you are also looking at this from the other side that I am. The war for the Middle East (for simplicities sake is over Oil) is raging because the Oil reserves on this planet are running out. If Oil was in abundance then it wouldn't have started (We'll keep this simple, I don't want a debate over its cause, for this case its Oil). The war started in that particular area because there is supply there, and shortages elsewhere.

Which brings me back on the the Desert world, Water, Food, and general supplies will be short everywhere. There will be two possible areas that will have plenty, one being the Space Ports, and the other being oasis's. The Terran worlds will still have these areas, but because of the abundance of resources elsewhere, are not as valuable to the population.

I'd also like a bit of input too. Shall I still keep some bonuses doubled or tripled up so you may end up with more then one of the same type, or just have one of each?
Since there is no other way (that I know of) to 'weight' one or more of the bonuses, I've had to put more of the same in so others are rarer, namely the bad ones, like A Deadly Secret.

Feedback is welcome, and thank you all for the above comments too.

Ironically the only planetary bonus ive gotten in 12 games of a huge random map are either crystal production +200%
-or-
Planetary shield.

im not including galactic trade center as its on every(i think) urban planet.

so in my case i suppose i should just increase the chance eh?

I also have a new idea for a planet!!
-Swamp world like Dagobah from star wars, many small lakes surrounded by muddy brown/nasty green land masses!

who wouldnt want to live there..?

Also make a new planetary bonus to go along with it with a 1% chance.
-Yoda!! increased everything or automatic win. yer choice haha.

OR-Savannah planet, yellow fields. sorta like Africa in some ways i guess.
