After the success on the Troll Thumping Day Suite some members of the Mother Thumpers are coming together to create the "Happy Birthday Suit(e)".

I envision this suite centered around a DX gadget that counts down to your birthday. On your birthday the gadget will prompt you to download the most recent incarnation of the suite components so for your special day, your desktop will celebrate with you.

At this point we have some components assigned to artists but this is a collaborative project and welcome input and assistance from everyone. Please jump in and help out if you'd like.

yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, can anyone animate the party blower? I know for sure one way to animate it, but I don't know how Zubaz's wife would feel if every time he passed gas there was a loud horn and a party blower flying out of his butt.

Does this mean we're not all working from one set of graphics? Are we just to do our own thing as long as it's birthday related?

I agree that we should have one set of graphics . . But I can't do anything more than say "I like this" or "I hate that"

For the WB, I think the top frame should have icing.  Maybe hanging down over the side.  On the sides,un-iced cake.  Maybe a layer of icing between cake layers.  On the bottom . . I'm not sure.

Start menu should be cake too.  Maybe with animated icing dripping.

I think it would look good somwhat cartoony oppoesed to realistic.

I like the idea of long ballons as a skin too.  the kind that balloon animals are made from.

Maybe the real artists involded could put up some quick and dirty mock-ups of what you like and we can all tear them apart and come up with something great.  I want this to be very collaborative.

So post your ideas.  They may become THE reference images.

Or . . . we appoint someone to be the CORE designer and go from there.  (I liek this least, but am willing to go with it iof we don't get the input we need.)

So I suppose a chat about conceptual things might narrow the design field down some, hm?

I mean, are we going all-out cheese? (Icing on the start menu) etc? Something that would appeal to even youth? (Not a comment of denigration, just needed direction)

Or should it/will it be more along the lines of an older person's birthday: perhaps a little more refined, mature? :)

Po'  I love you like a brother (have you met my brother?) . . but I'd like to move the concept forward.  Not saying we're going to exclude what you are plannign . . but maybe we can give you ideas too.

Again . . I'm (a vote of one) looking for a ToonXP type thing.  Lots of color and big cartioony shapes.

I also like the idea...... but with too much cartoonity it will not a big hit ....
I think we should make a suite which will be able for use also in normal days .... not just on birthday

I disagree . . th whole concept (for me) was that you might run a gadget at the start of the birthday month (or whenever) amd on your birthday it would remind you that you needed to download teh suite components (the very latest!).  You run it for a day, post a screenshot to the gallery . . and teh next day you go back to your regular desktop.

I'm not sure that the suite I envision will ever be "popular".  For me . . the point is to have fun making a suite and running it once in a while.  It's teh same thing for Halloween or Christmas or any other holiday suite.  Seasonal suites may last a month, holiday suites are usually a shorter term thing.

I will hold off on the Dream and Logon until I we decide on a set then... I will try to mix a few things together, but for now, I have a report to do :(

Yes, I also do think that the suite must reflect clearly that its a birthday suite. The popularity is not a big deal and what we want is fun, creativity and some more fun. ;)
