I reported a 6000 credit game earlier. Since I 'm not going to see my computer for the next 4 or so weeks - take that game.

Here's the most evil game ever played in the history of gaming! Using slight of hand, broken promises and dastardly diplomatic backstabbing, the evil Thalans gain the upper hand. A glorious battle for the history books. (Written by the victors, of course.)

We better hurry up. Only 14 days left.

This is me posting a very disappointing defeat. The Thal stumbled upon planets with both Precursor Mines and Libraries and I didn't notice, leaving it unchecked. From then on, it was just countdown to their domination. I did manage to get to Galactic Understanding, though.

Here's a screenshot from the endgame:

I would've liked to have another stab at it but I'm going on holiday in 2 days so no chance.

Anywhom, here's the score:

I for one would love to hear how you could possibly score over 20K in 6 years on a medium map with a tech victory. What happened that was so unique? I've never had a game even close to that. In fact, you're at about 300% above my highest tech score on this kind of map. Was it the luck of having maximum resources (including especially habitable planets?) Or was there some kind of system such as building military starbases to increase your military score? I'm honestly asking as to get an idea of how this kind of score could be had in this game. I can't figure how it could be done under the system that I know. So, what I'm doing is admitting that you've got around the game much further than I could have done!

So what's the secret that gets you 300% above any other score here?

@CornhuskerMac - I'm flattered that someone of your experience would be asking a a relative noob like me about the game.

The score itself was deliberate. I told my teammates about some of the strategies I used and intended to use and had let them know beforehand that I was shooting for a 20k game. This was in our private team thread at the core. I also tried for a two year and 1 year win. Those were less successful.

I brought up the need for our empire to have a private strategy forum where we could discuss and test new ideas amongst ourselves. I can use some help in experimenting with strategy combinations, since I don't have unlimited time to devote to it. This will be done within the empire I'm affiliated with, if we can make it happen.

I'm unaware of any possible way to cheat in this game and if there's a way, I'd rather not know. Everything I did in this game has been mentioned in this forum, except one particular item that I don't fully understand yet. It'll need some further investigation before it becomes a viable tool. I made reference to it in our empire thread, but no details until we can collectively verify it.

I think I still have the start and one turn before the endgame saved. If these can be used for discussion, I'd be more than willing to send them to neilo. I don't know where they are, nor how to package them for sending, so I'll need some help on that part. I also heard some rumors about a .xml that can be used for verification. I no longer visit the core, but it was being discussed when I was active there. I can send that if someone will explain how.

I wouldn't be too disappointed in losing to the Thalans in this game. They seem to be almost overpowered on these settings. Something about their planet quality abilities seem to eclipse the other races.

The Altarians weakness under this game was a surprise to me. I didn't post the games I had while playing as them, but suffice it to say that they were less than stellar.

Meh.

Not only did it take me nearly a month and several tries, but still I have to post a defeat.

Tech Victory simply doesn't suit my style of play. Nevertheless, I got up to Deeper Understanding, before suffering a Cultural Defeat at the hands of the Terrans. The worst part is that I saw it coming. I already had troop transports enroute to a three-planet minor in a last ditch effort to gain some galactic influence back.

The Terrans would have never been so aggressive (conquering first the Torians, then the Iconians (who surrendered to them rather than me, who had shoved thousands of BC down their throats)), but... well...

I didn't like the Torians, so I paid the Drath and Terrans to go to war. The Drath, as expected, lost enough ships that I in turn could conquer them. The Terrans, however, went into overdrive and built a military like I have only seen flying Drengin colours ever before.

Long story short: I lost.

Team A

Character: Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz
Years: 6
Size: Medium
Difficulty: Normal
Race: Thalans
Outcome: Cultural Defeat
Points: 625

Date: 09.08.07

I'm looking forward to the next round.

Ah, you know, I just realized that of course it's inappropriate of me to ask how you did it before this round's over. BTW, I meant to make no accusation of cheating at all. I'm also unaware of how someone would cheat, and if they do so in this league I'd consider it more their problem than mine.

But I do hope at some point to hear what your strategy was. Maybe after this round's over?

Sounds good.

But until then, I'll PM you with a temporary offsite link. Perhaps you'd like to join in with the experiments and discussions. It would be great to have a veteran like you in our midst, if you're willing.

I guess I'll be turning in my game, since I had trouble getting a better one done.

Games are to be submitted by midnight on the 13th August.

Uh. Midnight where?

Only three more day and I think I'll be able to finish. Actually, I will be able to finish regardless, the only question is whether or not it will be a decent scoring game or not.

Initally I hadn't wanted to bother with score and was looking for a quick victory as a source of bonus points. However, that didn't work out for me because all in all my first attempt at a medium galaxy game was rather sloppy.

My normal strategy of planet specialization didn't work very well with only 3 planets to start out with. Once I did take over the weak sisters in the game and I was in a position to exert my will over the rest of this rather small galaxy, it was already 5 years into the game. Clearly, quickest victory would be out of the question.

In any case, regardless of the score, a suicidal victory is still a suicidal victory even if it isn't the quickest or highest scoring.

I assumed GMT, which is the easiest to check against.

If I had to assume then that's what I'd assume as well. However I'd hate to make that assumption and find that someone meant east coast Australia time (whatever that is).

Midnight on the 13th as per this forum, which is EST of the U.S.A. I thought it best to just have the time frame the same as the board.

east coast Australia time (whatever that is).

Well as of writing this, it is 0955 Saturday 11th August. I think on average Australia is around 14 to 16 hours ahead of North America.

I had a similar problem. My lack of experience at the smaller maps hampered me and i play a slower deliberate style of game. Rushing just didn't help me, the lack of planets was too great.

In the end i got a slow win but with no real score to write home about. I did enjoy the challenge though.

Here is my rather low effort, i hang my head in shame....I am no good on smaller maps

Hmm, I had originally posted a game won in 4 years, but reposted for a 5 year win for a couple k more points. Maybe I did that backwards. I thought I would get more chances to play a few more scenario's, but really didn't. I still think a 2 year victory should be possible, under the right conditions. Maybe I'll make an attempt at one this weekend.

EST is what, in relation to GMT?

Personally, I'd prefer the next round to be based on GMT. Checking local time against GMT is easy, whereas I have to log in to see the forum time (or remember yet another time zone).

-5:00 I believe. You can easily check by right clicking your taskbar and going to your time/date adjustment. Look at the time zone tab and it gives you relation to GMT for all the zones in the dropdown box.

EST (Eastern Standard Time) is GMT-5 as DA points out but you need to be slightly careful because currently the US east coast is on EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) which is GMT-4.

Pndrev's point is a good one in that everyone on the net should have some idea about what their time is in relation to GMT. However, I didn't even realize that these forums were on a set time. Usually when you set up an account at a site you put in your timezone so that everything is relative to your own time. It's been so long since I set up my account that I had thought this was the case here as well.

If these forums are on a set time as I see it is from the "All times are EST. The time now is XX:XX" disclaimer at the bottom of each page then I think we should stick to forum time even if that may mean you have to log in to make sure what the time is.

Note that the disclaimer is slightly wrong, times on this forum are technically ET (Eastern Time without the distinction between Daylight and Standard) because the times listed are Daylight Savings times (EDT = GMT-4) for now, and Standard times (EST = GMT-5) during northern hemisphere winter.

Hopefully, this didn't add more to the confusion.

No i think your point came through. I too am happy to keep it this way but for pndrev and others if there are enough of you, then we could do something different.

After all we always said we will be flexible with the league. But i do think we will have to go with the majority on this, time will tell.

"time will tell" haaahaaaha i kill me....
