Welcome all the first season of the Metaverse League. Let's kick things off with Round 1.

Round 1 is as follows,

We are shooting for a Technological Victory in a Medium Galaxy with 4 opponent's with these settings,

Abundant Habitable Planets
Random Number of Planets
Uncommon Number of Stars
Scattered Star Density
Occasional Anomalies
Common Asteroids (DA Only)
Slow Tech Rate
Random Minors

Enable Tech Trading
Disable Blind Exploration
Disable Mega Events
Enable Super Abilities (DA Only)
Enable All Victory Conditions

Players may see fit to play with the intensive cpu algorithms and whatever race settings they like. Play with your normal difficulty or higher.

Games are to be submitted by midnight on the 13th August.

Good luck all and may the best team win!

Neilo.

I believe so mate.

I'm posting a result, but I used the wrong character somehow (how do I switch?).
I leave it up to neilo whether it is accepted anyway.
It's not glorious anyway: 6000 points for a tech win with the required criteria (which I hopefully translated correctly into my German version of the game)

And it took 5 years (+8 or so weeks). You can see it under the_butter_flies

It's ok, for the rest of the season just keep using the_butter_flies. Then in the nest season once teams are redone use your new character.

If round 1 has started. does that my mean my character sign up is too late?
Not at all, I responded to you in the sign up and roster thread, you are officially apart of team C. Be sure to check out your teams thread here and check in with your team mates.

Good luck

@ thebutterfly, not sure if you caught my comment on another thread but i will post here too. With your character, and the mixup, you had not submitted your game to this thread so it is not an official league game. Feel free to play as your other league character.

Random Number of Planets

One suggestion. Random number of planets is probably not the best choice of settings in that it could make big difference between the types of games received by two different players. Certainly to assign the number of planets quasi-randomly is fine but you should only select specific values so that people are playing as similar a game as possible. This true of all settings, random should really not be used in general for consistency sake.

Posting the first score ever for The Blade Runners, and the first unambiguous score in Metaverse League history, is our very own WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot! Do you have any words for us today, WTF?

Yeah, I think teams A, C, and D are looking for an early "Retirement." Replicate that, muthafrakkers!

Well done!

One thing I'm wondering is how will you know if the player followed your instructions about the galaxy settings? I'm not accusing you, MarshalONeil, I was just curious. And, under your characters profile, do you just copy the picture of your game and paste it into your reply?

The very instant you show your weakness, your downfall will begin!

You can do that or just write in the character name and date of submission for the game in question. Either is fine by me.

As for checking the variables in everyone's games. We can't. We are on the honor system with this. If someone is out to cheat the league then they will find a way no matter what. One person's cheating would not swing the league their way anyway i don't think, another reason why it is good the league does not focus on scoring.

I think every is worthy of trust on this matter, it might even be apparent when cheating is occuring. Abnormal scores will be a dead give away for sure.

Mumble. Good point about the random planets. I had not thought about that at all. I'm happy to leave as it is since Marshall has already posted. If people think otherwise we can change it, that's fine, but we would have to let Marshall re-submit his game under the new settings.

Yes it should be left as is for the current round. There would be too much confusion to try and change it even if games hadn't already been submitted.

it even if games hadn't already been submitted.

If it were only that, I'd just play another one. However, I'm sure there are games already started, as well. Did butterfingers... er, butterfly post a score, or did he elect to start over with his originally designated character?

One thing I'm wondering is how will you know if the player followed your instructions about the galaxy settings?

It is on the honor system. One thing I am planning to do with each of these games, though, is to send Macmatt the endgame xml file. He is collecting those files in this thread at the Galactic Core with the intent of decoding the number system. If he is successful (more likely when), it is possible that in the future we could have players submit their xml files to have the details read out. We'd get way more detail than the Metaverse currently displays, and it could be like a steroids test at the same time!

Yup, i have started myself.

He posted a score to the MV with his original character and not his intended MVL character. He did not though post that game in the results thread and i pointed out to him that until then it is not a MVL game. I assume now that he is playing a game as his intended character.

Yes i have been reading that particular thread with interest and intend on doing the same. I'm sure the other MVC members in the league are also intending to do the same, but i'd like to encourage everyone to send Macmatt the endgame.xml files. If you are unsure about this or have no idea check out the thread that Marshall pointed to and if you are unsure just pm Macmatt or any other MV councilor and we would be happy to help out or send the file along.

Me here!

Posting a very... very... weak game.........

Ok. 3875 points for a difficulty of Normal, taking 9 years.
Tech Victory, of course.

I'm just too stupid to post it

Oh, you are not. I was just ribbing you a little, mostly because playboy45 is on your team.   There's a good thread out there somewhere about posting screenshots, if that's where you're having trouble. This forum is so frakking slow right now that the search page is timing out, but there are helpful threads out there...

I played one, just out of curiosity.
Fist tech victory I have ever had.
Copy and pasted the Metaverse details.

A 7395 point tech victory for the Blade Runners! Yes, I valiantly hit that turn button until all of my enemies could do nothing but quake in fear of my button-pushing ferocity.

Neilo, can you take the score directly from my character Incitatus' profile? Actually, since we have time, I might try to get a better score before the month is out. Besides, I think I can hit end turn much faster now that I've had some practice!
I certainly can take the score all i need is the date of submission and score. Until you post that here in this thread you may play as much as you want.

@ Embird, are you interested in joining a team mate? Can fit you in without a hassle.

TGE reporting with one of the most amazing games I have ever played.

Got a Tech vicotry for 4785 points. Took 7 years as the Altarians because of random wars and other things, very good alignment. Medium Galaxy.
