The banners seemed pretty popular for a while; I put up quite a few for both the Gerontocrats and the AltMeta. I'm betting that the need to do all the copy-pasting is the main reason you don't see so many these days.

I still put one in occasionally when a reply or OP seems like a context for recruiting for us or promoting the AltMeta. I was asked to be the MVC rep for "oddball" folks (I never cared about scores until Mumble suckered me into the Council). I prefer the AltMeta to the "official" one b/c it room for us folks who still can't stand the work a conquest win takes.

Re the AltMeta banners, IIRC the graphics are dynamically generated and as long as Kryo keeps the site going, the banners should work. Our empire banner depends on a file at imageshack, so if that ever goes away, all our banners will too.

Wait, does that mean that the Alt Meta scores the different victory types differently? I thought the deterioration of scores and the info posted was the difference btween the 2. Cause i agree that it stinks that to get the 2x for a military victory you have to churn out transports and it can get pretty dull especially when you already have another victory type won.

Belive it or not, last week was the first time i visited the Altmeta.

The games are scored the same, but with the AltMeta, you get full value of every game, regardless of what you have submitted before. Scores on the AltMeta depreciate to 0 over time.

The AltMeta has 6 ranking lists, instead of the single one at the official Meta. The site has explanations of how the different groups are ranked, but basically it is a best effort to sort folks by preferred map size and win type.

I like Gigantic and don't like military wins, so I'm currently #142 when compared to folks like Neilo and Mumblefratz, but I'm #14 amongst the Civ Gigantic players.

I have been playing a lot of games, in fact, but I've quit more often than I've finished, due to untenable positions. Also, a lot of those games have been Metaverse League ones, which are perhaps not the highest scoring w.r.t. the AltMeta. And now the TotA campaign, which I just finished, which also does not count toward AltMeta.

I'll get working on a new metaverse game right now! Which race is the most fun to play in TotAm, would you say?

As for the empire, yes, if there are any older players here who would like to join a friendly empire, please feel free to post here or message me privately. We will take anyone who is older than 30, though no proof is required. If you act like you're mature and friendly, we will take you!

Gah, I have no idea yet, but I'm pretty sure that TA will be forcing me out of my Thalan rut by dint of tech tree frustration with them &/or tech tree curiousity about the others.

Right now, I'm working to finish the colony rush with my first try at the Drengin. Somehow it is easier for me to actually try the Evil thing now that I can build Slave pits and anticipate pain sciences, etc. I never had the Mind Control Center addiction, so the current problems there won't vex me much.

I never liked Drengin that much; that super ability of theirs is more annoying than it is useful.

I agree about the MCC. Though I usually play evil, prioritizing that was never a major consideration for me. Then again, scoring really high was never a priority, either.

Although I haven't started a TotA game yet, from what I've read from various posts, I'm tempted to give the Krynn a try, with their strong boosts to influence and morale; but I think someone said that they lose the SCC and some initial ship speed.

Still, they'll probably be my first choice I reckon.

Question for all active Gerontocrats: is anyone trying a TA Metaverse game yet?

I've started a few, got going with one that I thought I'd try finishing, but my casual reading around here now has me worried that the scoring might still be wonky (or at least "low" compared to DL and DA) and that research might come to a grinding halt on account of the apparent steady growth of tech costs.

@KseAlis: You should appear today in the AltMeta list; the A/M updates I believe twice a day (though it seemed to drop down to once a day in the past two months).

It updates every day at 12 noon EST. As Silver said, it has only been updating once a day for a few weeks now. There have also been sporadic problems of it not updating at all, or only partially too.

GW, I have submitted two TA games so far. Not great scores, but then they never are for me.

Alas, I do not have TA as of yet. But I've been reading about the inherant low scoring.

Since I've got you all here, can someone explain the categories in the Altmeta for me. My brain's not what it used to be. I see six lists, there are 2 Universal, 2 galactic and 2 solar. Under each of these there is either MIL (militry ?) or CIV.

What do these mean? Thanks.

Universal = huge, gigantic, & immense maps.
Galactic = large & medium maps.
Solar = small & tiny maps.

Civ = any non-conquest victories.
Mil = military victories.

There is no seperate Mil/Universal category. Those games are incorporated into the All/Universal.

My usual nick is KseAli not KseAlis (this is abbreviation of my daughter's names - Kseniya and Alisa). I have played with this nick first GC and even was few days 1st place in those Metaverse. But real life problems forced me to stop playing.

Week ago I have bought TA bundle (never played GC2 before) and start playing TA metaverse games. Just finished 7th game (small crippling cultural).

Just curious are there players older than me ? As I told I'm 58.

Crippling seems little bit difficult yet, so I'm planning return to painful and try non human races.
