Empire thread --> The Gerontocracy

The Gerontocracy is here, and the universe will never be the same.

This empire is intended for players over the age of 30, hence the name of the empire. Judging by other threads, that means about 89% of us. For that other 11%, my advice is to hurry up and get older; in the meantime, though, there are plenty of other empires to join, even if they're not nearly as awesome as we are.

Click here to join this empire.

Welcome to the Metaverse KseAlis. I've got at least one person in my empire who is in their 60's, and I know there are a few other players on the forums in their 70's. Sentient species taste better...

I thought about asking to join to Kzinti Empire, but this Empire is already at 1st place - this means nothing to do there. After that I found Gerontocracy and naturally it looks like proper place for me.

Just curious are there players older than me ? As I told I'm 58.

More than you would think!

Actually, if you were to take all active players over the age of 35, from all current empires and added them to The Gerontocracy, well... I mean that would make us probably one of the largest empires going (next to the Kzinti Empire that is ;)).

This thread has almost three hundred replies to the question "How old are you?"

The Kzinti would have welcomed you, but you have found an excellent empire to join in the Gerontocracy. :)

Being the first place empire is a double-edged sword. To some people it is an attraction, and to others it is a deterrent to join. In any case, we'll put off trying to devour you for a little while...you seem like a decent person. ;)

Ohh come of it Kzinti, you know aswell as I that you eat anything that moves... either way 1st empire is a huge galactic achievement. not just a double ended sword.

Then the Gerontocracy should be safe from the Kzinti menace -- none of us has moved for decades!

And we haven't even gotten started with the catnip toys and tinned meat. We'll have those bad ol' Kzin curled up and purring eventually :d

We like our meat still twitching, not stale from metal cans. Our combat armor is equipped with sophisticated anti-zheerekti (catnip) countermeasures. Bring on the fogey stormtroopers! ;)

Silly kitty, don't force us to bring out the comfy chairs and warm afghans (I started to say "no pun intended," but then again...)

Any objections if we lower the minimum age to 30 instead of 35?

Actually, I've been mistakenly telling people it was 30 anyway... oops :-)
That's still 210 in internet years, innit?

Besides, there's something to be said for old souls in young bodies, and for people who were just born to be curmudgeons ;-)

None from me.

Besides, I think arteriosclerosis begins manifesting itself around late 20's now anyway.
Today's younger generation will probably age faster compared to us older folks at the same age due to inactive lifestyles, poor food choices and stress.

That makes us pretty much the same on the inside... see, we do have something in common!

Let the recruiting begin!

No objection here either.

30 is still pretty ancient to some younger players. oh my back...

I'm starting to feel old now and I've basicly just begun my life

Please welcome our latest member, mightygoobi. Goobi has been responsible for some of the most interesting posts in the last few weeks, in the China thread and others. I think he will make a worthy addition to our ancient empire.

I also edited the text in the initial post to make it more current. We're not really a new empire any more, after all.

Yes ghostwes, some of our latest recruits seem to be going like a house on fire with their game submissions!

Congratulations to them and of course to all other active Gerontocrats for keeping us in the running, so to speak! :CONGRAT:

Ghost, I like the edit to the OP, with the stats... very snazzy. :HOT:

We're still "only" 7th on the AltMeta, but gosh-gawlee, mightygoobi coming aboard is sure a major boost on either chart. Now if only our venerably reluctant emporer could post a game soon...

p.s. The OP update seems most apt to me, especially considering my favorite recent example of "duh" research findings: Older Brain Really May Be a Wiser Brain.

We were already pretty close to surpassing the Overmind -- mostly inactive, as far as I can tell -- but we're quite a ways from overcoming our next target: the Tyranny of Evil.

Actually, I've submitted four games since TotA came out.

"... the research finds, the aging brain is simply taking in more data and trying to sift through a clutter of information, often to its long-term benefit."

Whoot!... there is hope! :D

A nice (and comforting) read GW, thanks for the link.

Maybe we've found a new wrinkle in AltMeta update problems. Just now, the last game ghostwes shows posted over there is from 27 Nov, 2007. I haven't mangaged to finish a TA game yet, and I confess to having paused playing b/c real life and the tech cost thing are driving me batty.

Kryo, are you watching this tread? Has anyone else reported problems with Metaverse TA games showing up on the AltMeta?
Out of curiosity, I've just checked and compared current active players and their game entries on both the Altmeta and Metaverse and things look like they match up for everyone... except yours ghost, just as GW has stated.

Your TotA games are not showing up on the Altmeta for some reason, while other people's TotA game submissions are.

What up wit dat?

That's very odd. According to my metaverse page, I have submitted a total of nine games since November 27.

Tournament games may not make it into the AltMeta perhaps?
