Battle Royale Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Battle Royale Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Calling all metaverse generals

Battle Royale Tournament

For the rest of May I'm running an unofficial tournament. All players who own Dread Lords or Dark Avatar are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Scene

Conflict dominates the universe. More than a dozen unique races strive to conquer galaxy after galaxy; through war, diplomacy, culture and technology. In any given arena, one race might dominate and claim a system. But there are trillions of star systems.

What race could actually win it all and claim the universe? Since the early days of Galictic Civilizations 2 there have been strong opinions about which races are the strongest and which are the weakest. Well, its time to put your money where your mouth is. Submit games for your favorite race in the month of May, and stop back to see how the races are stacking up against each other.

The Rules

Who Wins: The Race which scores the highest when the raw scores of all the submissions are added up at the end of the tournament will win. All custom races are being combined into one race entry.

Tournament Length: This Tournament runs from May 1st to May 31st. On June 1st I will post the results of the tournament.

Submissions: Every skirmish matters! To submit your score to the tournament, simply post to this message with a screenshot from your metaverse profile.

Only games with a date in the lower right hand corner that were submitted between May 1st and May 31st will be accepted. No cheat flagged games will be accepted. If there is a question about the validity of any score, it will be resolved by referring to that players official metaverse profile by me. For this tournament, games played by all races will be counted. Players are free to submit as many games as they choose as long as they are legal metaverse submissions within the appropriate date range.

If you have problems taking a screenshot, please post the date, score, race and character profile where the metaverse game you wish to submit can be found.

So who will win? Which race is really the best? Will the Yor and Torians fight to the finish? Will the Iconians even manage to score? Your games will decide the answers!

Good luck to all!

Hey all, thanks for the submissions. I'm in my car, so am not going to update this right now. Probably later this week/weekend. A quick look over the scores, the top three and bottom one aren't changing, but the Yor and Thalans are gaining ground.

And I KNOW Dog of Justice could really put the Krynn in a comfortable spot if he so choose. But what is Purge doing? To which race will his undoubted 600k score go?

Anything could still happen. Hope you are having fun out there.

Bravo on posting a defeat. No where to go but up!

Purge: So I just posted up a massive game...But I started it before the tourney. Should I post it, or disqualify it for fairness sake?

The rules only state that you post the game to the Metaverse before the end of the month so your game qualifies. That's another 588700 for my favorite amphibians the Torians!

He choose not to submit that game, but is working on another. And he hasn't said for what race it is for. I'm so curious.

And I am expecting a record score for me. I'm about nine months to a year ahead of the 588K game. The improved performance on the last version of DA should let me score more as well. I had been running into system performance limitations and those are further out now.

My system only has 512MB RAM so playing gigantic abundant everything, loose or scattered clusters was a real pain especially late game. In DA theses games have ~1000 planets vs. ~500 in DL, so I have given up on those. I'm having fun playing a medium map with common stars and occasional planets; the turns fly by much much faster!
What does your gaming machine have and how many expensive dreadnoughts do you have at game end?

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz (2 CPUs)
Physical Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 196MB used, 5792MB available
Chip Type: GeForce FX 5200
Display Memory: 128.0 MB

It's really a one CPU system not two. Why it gets misread is a long story...

I finished my last game under an early Beta 1.6 release. When I started seeing system issues the last game it wasn't from memory usage, but looked like it could be graphic redraw stuff (which was their focus for performance improvement!). I'm usually around seven to nine thousand all BHE huge ships by game completion. 902 planets. Last game they were 65-70K a pop per ship. The good news is that even before the patch, I was able to play the games out to about the same point in terms of the number of ships, despite the extra planet count.

I have a few less planets this time. 888 at last count, but there are still a couple floating around out there. If the graphics hold up, I should be able to do the star base solution for points this time which will definitely help my score. Edit: Currently blowing 200K a turn quick buying constructors!

I know a million point game is possible, if you pull out all the stops and use every advantage (including ones that some consider cheese). I'm just trying to find enough loose ends to squeeze.

I think Mumble and I may be racing for it! Others are welcome to join the fray!

888 planets gives you enough starports to construct a 3M-A in one turn with room to spare, lol. Yeah, you'll easily break a million if you want to.

Not sure if this applies but i know that if you enable hyper threading it will see it as two cpu's not one.....

You already knew this maybe....just call me Captain Obvious!

Hyperthreading for the bonus round!

It's almost four years old, but I did go with PC3200 at the time instead of PC2700 like everyone else and that is worth as much as a faster CPU.

I'd love to join but my metaverse says the every game i play was rigde with cheats. I have had to delete all my scores because of this, but it still keeps happening.

One for the Yor. Probably my last game for a while. Going on vacation at the end of next week.

Strange. Apparently my first post (yesterday) did not go through.

Updated.

For those keeping score at home, here is how the races are ordered as of right now:
1. Krynn
2. Torian
3. Korath
4. Thalan
5. Custom
6. Yor
7. Drath
8. Terran
9. Iconian
10. Drengin
11. Arcean
12. Altarian

I can't say that any of the top 5-6 are all that much of a surprise. I'm a little shocked the Altarians are doing so poorly, I would have thought the economy and morale bonuses alone would have given them more of a showing. But the game is far from over.

Thanks again for everyone's participation. For what its worth, I'm very jealous of all of you out there who get to keep playing and submitting to this. I had Custom, Krynn and Altarian games all started, and none of them will be finished in time for this.

Good luck out there.

My first 100k game, and what a long drawn out affair it was too. Had the game won in the 2nd year, and it took another bloody 7 just to mop up.

How Purge and FC and the like do this on suicidal is beyond me, my hat's off to you fella's....

Congrats on breaking 100k, neilo! I don't think I'm going to try for that any time soon. Takes too much patience.

My last submission for this tourney. Wasn't sure I'd get it in before leaving, but just made it.

Thanks for the submissions guys. I'll update when I have more time. Looks like the Thalans are going to be in the top three.

Just one week left. Time for the final push for your favorite race.

Shameless bump

My beta5 test game. Didnt expect it to be Metaverse compatible. So ... yay!
And its an entry for our beloved Custom Races again.

Oh, and thanks for hosting this fun tournament Wyndstar.

Testing the Metaverse resubmit thingy. I read it in the forums somewhere. Seems to work OK. This is the same game as the one above with one more year added. 9.5K in one year. Not bad.

All packed up and ready to go. See ya week after next.

Swiffo, 17 years?? Holy *(#&@^!!!!!

Believe me, I'm not putting you down or anything like that. It's pure admiration! I've never seen such a long game. Did you hit "turn" a lot, or did you actually play out each turn fully? Just curious
Reply #96 Top
Aehem, i guess my play style is a little bit more relaxing than the usual piff-puff-poof one year victories you guys are used to.

If you look at my first entry, it took even longer. But thats mainly because i got an event where everything was limited to a speed of 5 pc, which is btw realy awesome when you rely on the first strike ability as much as i do.
Also, in admiration of my military strength the ai is always quite generous in handing out their most valued treaties to me (the ones indicated by a red line in the diplomacy screen).
So i end up with the whole galaxy against me pretty much all the time, which can slow a game down quite a bit i figure.

Truth be told, i actually do hit turn alot early in the game, because i just cant put up with the ai at any aspect of the game at this point. So, im basicly focusing solely on research and diplomacy (which im not exactly good at) until i can compete militarily with the ai, which is when i got all the logistic, hull, miniaturization and engine techs and the black hole missle thingy that makes your fleet battles going to take forever, because the bloody hole has to open up first and close again before the oponents vessels receive any damage (Zzzzzzzz) .
Anyhow, the drawback with this is, that chances are high that i will have to face one or two Super Power(s) with insane military strength that late into the game, that will take quite some effort and time to eradicate from my galaxy.
I hope this makes sense. I know it doesnt to me.
Its just the way a pathetic noob like me can win at this difficulty, if you want to put it that way.

Im not a mother tongue english speaker, so if the writing above reads like a recipe for a delicious strawberry pie or something like that, feel free to ask for clarification.

Btw, congrats to your high point game neilo. I wish i could put down a score like that, but i think my games just take to long and are to slow for that to happen.

Thankyou, but it itself was a long game. It may have only been 9 years but if you factor in the time between turns....wow..it would be like 50 years or something.

It took me about 3 weeks to complete and it doesn't help when you get the "out of memory" error when trying to save and it then wipes your save game. I actually had the game won, short of about 2 or 3 turns, but i hadn't saved it for about 4 hours...crash...gone!!!

That late in the game with 800 or so planets and about 1000 ships it was soooo slow.....but i'm ready to do it all again.....nearly...

Yes, it's admirable that you can do that. Suicidal scares me, so I haven't even tried it yet!

what this do you do in the game to earn points for the meatverse?
Not sure i understand the question....

But if i get you right, all this is, is a player (Wyndstar) run tournament where you simply play a normal MV game and post as normal. Once your game is on the MV, take a screenshot and post in here so your score can be tallied...

Couldn't be easier.....
