Battle Royale Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Battle Royale Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Calling all metaverse generals

Battle Royale Tournament

For the rest of May I'm running an unofficial tournament. All players who own Dread Lords or Dark Avatar are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Scene

Conflict dominates the universe. More than a dozen unique races strive to conquer galaxy after galaxy; through war, diplomacy, culture and technology. In any given arena, one race might dominate and claim a system. But there are trillions of star systems.

What race could actually win it all and claim the universe? Since the early days of Galictic Civilizations 2 there have been strong opinions about which races are the strongest and which are the weakest. Well, its time to put your money where your mouth is. Submit games for your favorite race in the month of May, and stop back to see how the races are stacking up against each other.

The Rules

Who Wins: The Race which scores the highest when the raw scores of all the submissions are added up at the end of the tournament will win. All custom races are being combined into one race entry.

Tournament Length: This Tournament runs from May 1st to May 31st. On June 1st I will post the results of the tournament.

Submissions: Every skirmish matters! To submit your score to the tournament, simply post to this message with a screenshot from your metaverse profile.

Only games with a date in the lower right hand corner that were submitted between May 1st and May 31st will be accepted. No cheat flagged games will be accepted. If there is a question about the validity of any score, it will be resolved by referring to that players official metaverse profile by me. For this tournament, games played by all races will be counted. Players are free to submit as many games as they choose as long as they are legal metaverse submissions within the appropriate date range.

If you have problems taking a screenshot, please post the date, score, race and character profile where the metaverse game you wish to submit can be found.

So who will win? Which race is really the best? Will the Yor and Torians fight to the finish? Will the Iconians even manage to score? Your games will decide the answers!

Good luck to all!

Special thanks to Stardock for this great game! These tournaments are only possible because of the excellent product you have produced. Your hard work is appreciated.

But if i get you right, all this is, is a player (Wyndstar) run tournament where you simply play a normal MV game and post as normal. Once your game is on the MV, take a screenshot and post in here so your score can be tallied...

not what i ment, what i mean is what do you do IN the game to earn the points that you put on the metaverse?

It took me about 3 weeks to complete and it doesn't help when you get the "out of memory" error when trying to save and it then wipes your save game. I actually had the game won, short of about 2 or 3 turns, but i hadn't saved it for about 4 hours...crash...gone!!!

Ouch .. i know well enough how bad it *(#&@^ to loose progress. 4 hours, holy cow!

You probably didnt touch that game for a couple of days after that had happened. I know i wouldnt have and usualy let the game rest for a while until the trauma has been slightly mitigated

I just hope the Stardockians will get their hands on them ebil memory gremlins, that are about to gnaw away our sticks, sometime in the future.
Even though i have set the auto save to save every two turns, after something similar happened to me, at certain points in the game the time used up between turns can be ...erm, quite massive, as you stated quite fittingly.

Suicidal scares me, so I haven't even tried it yet!

The insane amounts of ships the ai dishes out each turn sure scared me at first.
Now i am just grateful for even more colourful ship explosions, even more so since that awesome coder tweaked the graphics engine.

Try it, with a cheesy approach like mine you will prevail!
Or you can try Wyndstars way of playing for example, random-everything-hardcore-insanity ^^...that will require quite some skill though.

(first time post)

Welcome to the forums sir_schmoozer, and congrats to your first metaverse victory!

All i know about scores is, that there seems to be a penalty for long-lasting games and that the amount of ships you have/military strength, has a significantly impact on your final score, as does the productivity of your industry and your research throughout the game.
As for how exactly the game does compute scores, i dont know that. A more experienced player might, though.

Also, try searching the forums for "score", there are quite alot of threads about this topic, for example: Tips for Maximizing Your Game Score By Mascrinthus

You bet i did! Just on 3 days actually....

There are significant gains in memory usage in the new beta's. I don't think their very stable atm, but just to show how bad the memory situation was in that game consider i have 2GB of ram and my page file is set to max, around 7GB i think. Plus it was on challenging, so there was not the masses of fleets the AI throw at you like on suicidal....

How did this thread get down to page 5?!? I'm here to rescue it with a pretty atypical game, for me. Krynn, for something different, and I hadn't posted with them yet; Diplomatic victory, to take a break from conquest; Medium galaxy, because I don't have time for anything bigger these days; and Maso because the damn thing reset without me noticing. This should help keep the Krynn ahead of those steenkin' Torians, at least...

Annnd... so the Altarians put up a bit of a fight!

With any luck, now that exams are over, I can get a few more in before the deadline... will see. Still have work to contend with.

Ok battlefield generals, there are less than 48 hours left. Nows the time for that final push for your favorite race. Good luck out there!

Sigh...My game is not going to make the cut. Too much time in the hospital. I guess my killer custom race Torians will have to wait their turn. I was so looking to dumping what should be a 750K plus game by the end into this tourney!

Here's one more - the game I had going on at the same time as my earlier Krynn post.

Spore. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfrakker in the galaxy. Accept no substitutes.

One quick entry from me. Slightly more successful than my last one, I was planning for a Tech Victory (was actually 1 tech away), but the last Civ out of 3 was culturally exterminated by the Thal, who I was allied to, meaning I won a diplo victory.

Well, first off, thanks to everyone who participated in this tournament in May.

The results are in, and just like in my first tournament, the Krynn have won, barely beating out the Korath. Guess that super spy ability is better than we thought

The Krynn, Korath and Thalans made up the top three. All are amoung my four favorite races, so it was nice to see them doing well.

The Arceans with their first strike ability came in dead last, and the Drengin and Altarians join them in the ring of shame as the bottom three. Of all these results only the position of the Altarians really surprises me. With their research, morale and economy bonuses I would have thought they would do much better.

The Yor didn't even manage to make it into the top half. This is not a scientific survey, but it never seemed like they were overpowered in DA to me.

Before this started, I had guessed the Torians would win, and they did alright, at a respectable fourth place out of 13.

I hope everyone had fun. It was a blast for me to run this tournament. Perhaps I will do another in a few months. Until then, take care out there! *Poofs*

Thanks Wyndstar, yet another great tournament from you. Look forward to your next one.

See you when you finish up, Good Luck.

Thanks, Wyndstar. This was fun!

Here's an idea for the next tourney. "Good Gone Wild". You can submit a win by any race, but you have to have chosen "good" alignment. Would it be too obnoxious to have to play good for a month?

Another idea: "The Best of the Good". Battle between the good races (wherein you can choose any alignment or maybe any alignment but "neutral" just to promote playing the natural alignment of the race). Altarians, Torians, Drath, Iconians.

Or, a tourney which only allows for diplomacy or influence victories. This would keep there from being the few posts in the hundreds of thousands which make my tens-of-thousands victories not so impactful.

Other ideas?

fabulous, do another please. i cant wait till you do another.
this time i might actually get time to play a few games for it.
Thanks all. I can't wait to do another myself, but at the soonest it will not be for several months. I'm hoping in the meantime that the Metaverse Council decides to run a tournament or two, but it looks like they are currently busy with elections.

Things are going well with my trial, and I'm starting to get a really solid set of pocket briefs laid out - so I will be able to efficiently ambush my opponent with dozens of motions to disrupt any sort of flow they might get into. Still, the soonest this whole thing will be over is probably mid-August. I'm still not in court yet, just in the throes of preperation.

An alignment based tournament was one of several I had planned. Or maybe I should do one where I just don't allow the Krynn to play, to give someone else a chance. We will see.

Good luck out there!

Well if your not going to be back until August, I could run a couple of tournaments in your place, if no one else volunteers.

I haven't got many ideas though, so if anyone wants to contribute some, go ahead.

Might I suggest the "Tournament of Losers"...Only allow the three worst scoring races from this tournament. Let's find out who is really the worst race to play!

11. Drengin: 33,350
12. Altarian: 24,595
13. Arcean: 18,200

Might I suggest the "Tournament of Losers"...

Oh, I like that idea. My money is on the Altarians being the "top of the bottom" in that scenario. And, as long as I'm setting odds, Super Dominator is so much worse than Super Warrior, I'd have to think that somehow the Arceans could slip into second.

- Edit - Interestingly, a representative from all three alignments made it into the bottom. And I think the Iconians should have taken the Altarians place as the good representative, but I'm worried that my singling them out as the worst inspired people to play as them. Maybe to round out the field you could run a "Tournament of Losers + Iconians", just so that they didn't feel left out

I suppose I could always upload the front page for a tournament and then just update the scores once a week or so. Two reasons I'm not going to do this, however: 1) I think people prefer it when I update once every couple of days and 2) I want to be able to play in my tournaments.

Still, there are plenty of ideas here if someone else wants to run something in my absence.
