Battle Royale Tournament - KRYNN WIN!

Calling all metaverse generals

Battle Royale Tournament

For the rest of May I'm running an unofficial tournament. All players who own Dread Lords or Dark Avatar are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Scene

Conflict dominates the universe. More than a dozen unique races strive to conquer galaxy after galaxy; through war, diplomacy, culture and technology. In any given arena, one race might dominate and claim a system. But there are trillions of star systems.

What race could actually win it all and claim the universe? Since the early days of Galictic Civilizations 2 there have been strong opinions about which races are the strongest and which are the weakest. Well, its time to put your money where your mouth is. Submit games for your favorite race in the month of May, and stop back to see how the races are stacking up against each other.

The Rules

Who Wins: The Race which scores the highest when the raw scores of all the submissions are added up at the end of the tournament will win. All custom races are being combined into one race entry.

Tournament Length: This Tournament runs from May 1st to May 31st. On June 1st I will post the results of the tournament.

Submissions: Every skirmish matters! To submit your score to the tournament, simply post to this message with a screenshot from your metaverse profile.

Only games with a date in the lower right hand corner that were submitted between May 1st and May 31st will be accepted. No cheat flagged games will be accepted. If there is a question about the validity of any score, it will be resolved by referring to that players official metaverse profile by me. For this tournament, games played by all races will be counted. Players are free to submit as many games as they choose as long as they are legal metaverse submissions within the appropriate date range.

If you have problems taking a screenshot, please post the date, score, race and character profile where the metaverse game you wish to submit can be found.

So who will win? Which race is really the best? Will the Yor and Torians fight to the finish? Will the Iconians even manage to score? Your games will decide the answers!

Good luck to all!

hey i dont know how you did it. i tried your altaarian strat on mdium size and even those aligned with me turned on me i won both games but ended up with under 12000 pts both times so kudos to you for netting near 70000 pts one other thing how do you show the alt scores (i have a better score there)

And again, just for fun I will get things started with a pretty small submission.

PlayJeff45 - I have probably played too many games. Remember, alliances don't matter with the altarians, it is who shares your alignment.

Anyway, here is a quick start to the tournament:

Good luck out there!

This has come at a good time, I think I will actually be able to participate.

Wow. I stink. You accomplished a tech victory in a tiny map in 1 year!! It takes me pretty much 9 yrs for any victory. I applaud you.

Heh. And another one. Sadly, I was going for an alliance victory, only to realize after I got it that I had accidentally disabled alliance and influence victories.

I'll admit, the AltMetaBeta has me wondering how hard it would really be to get to the top of all of those civ catagories as well. Hmmmm.

Anyway, the Terrans now have taken a shot as well:

Good luck all!

Wyndstar, glad to see you start another tourny. I'll try to get in on this one(in fact my currently month and a half meta game should fall in just right). I have one small request pertaining to the original post. Your Altmeta link still points to the old Altmeta. Would you mind pointing it to the NewAltmeta? I think the more links we get up for it the more people can see the dramatic changes and improvements made.

Thanks for doing this for the community, keep up the great work.

Whew, remembered to turn on all victory types this time. I didn't realize no stock race got any influence bonuses, I was a little bummed. So, decided to give a little love to the Korx.

Here is another one:

Tech victories are IMO the easiest, you can have one done easily by November of the first year (40 turns in), and if you want to challenge yourself, go for under 25 turns. This doesn't take a lot of skill, the AI is especially bad at defending against non-military victories early. In this Korx game I had 97% of the galactic influence by January 2227 - when apparantly you can start working towards an influence victory - despite the fact that there were 9 unconquered enemies still on the map. This only works for single player, if I was playing against someone who never built colony ships but started the game kicking out loads of constructors and putting influence starbases in every quadrant - I would have built a blitz ship with one gun and shot them down. Not the AI. Apparantly they were happy to have one less compititor for the colony rush.

Of course, my scores reflect the amount of effort these other victory types take. So I think it all evens out in the end. I'm totally ruining my overall metaverse average, but its fun to do the civ victories again after not doing them for so long.

Your Altmeta link still points to the old Altmeta. Would you mind pointing it to the NewAltmeta? I think the more links we get up for it the more people can see the dramatic changes and improvements made.

The link is fixed. No problem as far as doing this for the community. I apparantly wasn't around when you guys voted on your MVC members, so I decided to do what I could on my own. A little less red tape this way as well

And, the totals are again updated. Terrans lead, oh my! And I was playing with the "harder" patch as far as tech trading went Apparantly Super Diplomat still works for something. Sigh, I kill me. All in good fun of course.

Good luck!

Dont worry Windstar, elections are around the corner, you can always consider running

Its nice to see that our movement helped create others, your tournaments are an excelent community activity that will strengthen the meta and encourage participation.
For that I thank you

And nice new MVC banner DA.

And...

To finish off my sweep of the non-military victories, an alliance win. I decided to use the Krynn because they won the last tournament I ran, so they deserve some extra play.

Next up, a few military victories...

Good luck! Still a month to go, and I don't think I played with any of the races that will end up in the lead. But you never know.

So I just posted up a massive game....But I started it before the tourney. Should I post it, or disqualify it for fairness sake?
Up to you. I realize that a few 500k+ games could unbalance this quickly. My rules only state submission date, because I have no way of knowing when players started the game. I don't want to penalize people who play games that take months, I obviously have a different play style, and I want us all on as level a playing field as possible.

In short, it is within the rules. If you want to submit it, go ahead. If you think it is unfair to submit, then don't. I leave the discretion up to you, as long as it is a legal submission. IF I could track when games started, I might limit by when games were started as well, but I just don't have access to that data, so it is not a limitation.

And an entry to get the custom races started off.

Just like in the last tourney, I can't take a screen shot. But these are the stats. I only played Terrans because I want the race medal. However, I found it quite easy. The Super Diplomat ability is dominating, at least at masochistic level.

Wyndstar, thanks for organizing this tourney!

CornhuskerMac -

Ok, your score has been added and updated. The information you gave me is great, but I would like to ask that you also include the "Character" name, in this case Bastard, because I can search by that to quickly find the score.

Np on organizing the tournament, I wanted them, and sometimes the best way to make something happen is to do it yourself.

It is still very early, but the terrans have a commanding lead for the early game. Do the Torians get a ridiculous 600k score to bury the opposition right off the bat? I'm on tenterhooks.

Good luck all! Hopefully this will turn into a lively challenge.
I have this sudden urge to break out in my best Krushchev imitation by taking off my shoe and screaming "We will bury you! In children!"

We will bury you!

I'm definitely not going to post it for a while at least, so the tourney has a chance to get off the ground. I do have a gig I just started that I think will make it by the end of the month though and I'm not telling anyone what race it is!

Edit:

If you do develop a preference. Let us know. I think most people would abide, even if it's not something that can be enforced.

Oh, my PREFERENCE is that you only post games started after the deadline. That is a limit I impose on myself. But as I have no way of enforcing it, I leave it up to the individuals player's choice what they think is fair.

Edit - by after the deadline, I mean after the start day of the tournament.

Double Edit - and I have heard from people that the games they play can take months. I only run tournaments for one month, so that a limitation on start date might exclude some players, which I don't want to do. With my play style my games only take a few hours, so the limitation is no big deal. But I recognize that there are many different approaches to the game, and some of them might have a problem with a one month time limit.
Then I will abide by that rule of thumb and I encourage others to do so as well

[taunt mode]Post it, Purge. You know you want to. If you don't, you don't have a hair on your @zz.  [/taunt mode]

Seriously though. You played the game and it falls within the rules. I'd vote to have it count.

I abandoned a game and started a new one when Wyndstar announced the Tourney. Looking forward to seeing the finals.

BTW...Thanks for doing the Tourney, Wyndstar.

Well, I didn't get much sleep last night, but I did manage to finish another game. Which matters more in the long run, right?

In this case, I don't like the new Drath bonuses as much, so I played with the classic Drath. Remember, the tournament is as open to DL as to DA.

And now we have a new temporary leader

Good luck. Updated.

I definately shouldn't be up this late playing a game. Kinda addicting, no?

Here's my first.

Updated. If it makes you feel any better, I shouldn't be up this late updating the tourny page.
