Ship designs from around the world!

Last year, we had a thread in which people showed off some of the great ship designs they created with Galactic Civilizations II.

With the expansion pack adding so many new components and so much free form support, we'd love to see the cool things players create.

The cool thing in the expansion pack is now you can save your creations as templates and then assign the computer players to make use of those ships in various roles. Combined with the capability of creating your own custom opponents, now you can create your own sci-fi universe within GalCiv without modding.

Oh...rats. I can't get imageshack to work again.

looks like you used the thumbnails 1 code. Use the first one, the straight html code.

edit: nevermind either Kryo fixed it or you got it.

That's a thing of beauty Kane. I can't wait to get DA. How long did it take you?

you can download it off from the Stardock online store, you do need an account there but its free, the game costs 20 dollars or something I think. Thats what I did.

This version of the Constitution Class took alot less time to create than the original I made with Dread Lords parts. Having a pre-rendered saucer section was great. The engine nacelles also scale to a much larger, proportionate size this time so I didn't have to create those from scratch either.

If you meant how long did it take to download DA, maybe 40 minutes with a reasonably good connection. If you meant how long did it take to make this ship--well about two hours of trial and error.

Kane- I meant to make it. Thanks for the info.
SMJ- I know its that I can't spare a 20 spot right now otherwise I would have bought right after the chat session. I am just hurting in the finance department. I'll get it soon, it's just hard being patient.

Quick question; when I design ships, I often go for the Robotech look (asymetrical, naval ship look)...what would you guys recommend as the best racial ship models to use?

i usually use a mix of drengin and terran base hulls for a "naval" feel. use kryo's hull mod to mix and match your favorites.

Pokerface - I love those worker ships. Would you upload those to the library? I can't even imagine how you put that together and would love to see it in my own game.

You guys are nuts building ships like that. That being said, where can i get my hands on your designs and once I do (heres to hoping), how would I install them into my game?
Mockery- You can go to the library and download the ships there. The read.me normally has install directions but sidemancer has come up with the following basic guidelines when using those ships.

- Dread lords and Dark avatar have their own seperate ship directories
- Metaverse and regular games have their own seperate ship directories

To use most library ships in a DL regular game:
copy them into your 'My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\ships' dir
To use most library ships in a DL metaverse game:
My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2\Metaverse\ships
To use most library ships in a DA regular game:
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\ships
To use most library ships in a DA metaverse game:
My Documents\My Games\GC2DarkAvatar\Metaverse\ships

well, i'd hoped to finish my city ship design this weekend, but i didn't. here's a few i have come up with - not my best work, but certainly not horrible.

the Hyperion class battleship:

the Nova class attack destroyer:

the Ramjet class planetary defense frigate:

more to come for sure, including the Atlantian class city ship (i'm sure you all can imagine the inspriation for any design so named). these designs used KHSM, and i magnified the medium sized ship hulls so they wouldn't look so much like large fighters.

ps: sorry for the odd lighting. i was following LogicSequence's recommended settings after i installed his high-res graphics mod - they're a bit dimmer than i'd personally prefer, and i was too lazy to restart the game when i went in to take these screen shots. no AA either.

Here is my city ship for my AAR "For Gondacor!" It is not much, but it is kind of cool.

Wow, guys, i've seen the bulk of the old thread, and all the ships in this one look great too, but have you noticed something?

MAJOR LACK OF FIGHTERS.

I dont know why, but I am not very good on large-scale design, so I've pretty much fixated on designing fighters. Me and my twin brother share this game, and he is much more skilled than me on the large-scale building, and we both agree:

I MAKE WICKED FIGHTERS.

I've put out some of the most deadly and coolest looking fighters hes ever seen or designed. One noteworthy fighter is my Macer Fighter M-1/5, both for it's cool design, its massive effectiveness in combat(especially in specialized fleets i call "Hell Squads", my most famous being the deadly "Ceberus Brigade"), and extremely fast production rate (especially on Earth when I was forced to amp it's military production past 100). The story behind the M-1/5 goes like this.

My first Dread Lords On Parade game. I was slow to colonize and produce ships at forst, so I was unfortunately stuck with only Earth and Mars. The Dread Lords were currently had the bulk of their military in the top corner fighting forces there, but that didn't keep them from occasionally sending a battlestation or lone fighter over to Earth to wipe out it's starbases and trade ships. My military mainly consisted of an aging design called the Macer Missile Boat, wich was EXTREMELY ineffective in combat, but i made them anyway to keep my economy from crashing, the newer TLC-1200 put into production about 12 weeks eariler thanks to an advance in lazer and armor research thanks to the Altarians, and the ancient Macer Fighter M-1/3 fighter, only slightly more effective than the missile boats, using old mass driver weapons. As the Dread Lord escort ship smashed through my final MASSIVELY upgraded military starbase, I decided it was about time to put out a new class of ship. This led to a trade with the Drengins nabbing me a giant leap in mass driver weapons, the singularity driver mk2, and ultimately, the Macer Fighter M-1/5. I immidiately put these into production, and thanks to it's fast construction rate, and Earth's MASSIVE military production, I had a fleet of 7 of these in about 7 weeks. Then, the Dread Lord escort craft returned. I sent my fighter fleet after it, and my mouth went agape at the effectiveness of my new fighter. 1 fighter lost, dread lord escort destroyed. No other damages. I decided it was time to manufacture these on a larger scale, and soon, I had multiple fleets of these, wich I affectionately called "Hell Squadrons", for their apparent invulnerability to even dread lord ships. The strongest of these was the origional one, affectionately named "Cerberus Brigade". This squadron was tasked as the front line of defense against the dread lord ships, anything that got by Cerberus was engaged by aging M-1/3 Fighters coupled with Missile Boats and TLC-1200 ships. (TLC Stood for Terran Lazer Craft. My brother's to blame for the name, I swear.) Cerberus defeated any ship it took on, but it came out just a little too late. Soon after, i got the pirate mega event, and the pirates eventually came along at the same time as the first dread lord FLEET i'd ever seen. First to be engaged by my forces were the pirates, and I had at least been smart enough to hold Cerberus back for the DLs. The Pirates raged on against my aging fleets, while the DLs held back until a portion of the fighting was over, and wiped out most of the remaining Pirate craft, and all of my aging fleets. I immediately sent all available Fighters, corvettes, TLCs, and Missile boats to engage them, but every match ended in defeat for my fleets. My last ships left were those that hadnt been in combat. This included 1 TLC-1200, 1 Missile Boat,
3 M-1/5 fighters, and a few ships I received from other races. The dread lords proceeded in wiping them out, and took over Mars. The Torians, Altarians, Drengins, the Yor, led (suprisingly) by a massive Iconian force came in close proximity of Earth as one battle group, and engaged the Dread Lords and remaining Pirate ships. Que epic battle. ONE DL troop craft sneaks through, and hits earth. They take over with 1 soldier left, and I lose. I came away from the computer with a kick ass new fighter class, and one MASSIVE hunger pain.

(Sorry, no pics ATM, mixups during install made the game unplayable once I updated, lost my designs to the reinstaller. I promise to post pics soon.)

Farther into the Game I made the Constitution class Cruiser. Only 3 could be built because they are so expensive right now.

These are from my personal Custom Race (The graphics for the race were all done by me, including the communications animations, portraits, and logos, as well as the homeworld texture and terrain color scheme, and of course the ship designs are all done by me as well. But can you guess my inspiration?):

lol, the inspiration are those shadow race guys from Babylon 5! once I saw the race picture, I was pretty sure it was that along with the homeworld name.

in one of the episodes where you actually see the Shadow guys (they were called The Shadow most of the time), they appear as black spider/crablike creatures, and thier homeworld was found to be Zha'dum (or something along the lines), plus your ships look alot like the ships they had in the Babylon 5 series.

here's the color:

Hue:144 sat:78 lum:64 R:46 G:64 B:90

It's a bluish gray...and probably has a bump map and a light map with it.

Hope that helps.
