For a Whale of a good time, join the "B.C. Space Orcas"

Just when you think you have conquered a planet, out from behind its' sun come a hoard of gigantic Doom-Ray equiped killer whales. This is enough to send even the most fierce Drengin running with his tail between his legs. I invite new and experienced players to join with me to take a run at the top. I have found different ways to beat the game at the suicidal level and am willing to give advice to anyone that wants it. I will change my meteverse name if someone joins my empire that is ahead of me 5 months after the recalc. The first 20 players to reach 100,000 points on the metaverse will become senators. You will be given no duties to perform except to have fun and help all of us reach the top. We now have a website. It can be found at WWW Link Come one come all. Bye for now. TBAY

Darth Kryo..... Marcathonas and unfunfofmpc are not members of our empire and they are causing grief among our members with there flames.

I have already asked them both to refrain from posting here on the subject, so it should be the end of it (here at least).

I am sorry if you thought i was flaming Stardock. This is not the case as I have been a member for years. I was trying to defend my members from this exploiter by drawing your attention to his posts in our thread.

No problem--I just need the name calling, personal attacks, etc, to stop. If everyone can have a civil discussion on the subject, that's fine. But things were getting way out of hand.

I do hope that you and the devs will soon see through unfunfofmpc's deception and reveal him for the freud he is. Do you really think he will stop exploiting the game after 30 days.

I do. And if he does not, I believe mavx and marcathonas are working with him, and I do trust them. So either way, the devs will soon know exactly what he is doing to exploit the AI so they can fix it. And if not, since he's only telling a limited number of people it would be easy enough to delete scores and hand out bannings if that's what it came down to.

Also can you tell me why our empire thread keeps running text to the right and we have to scroll to read it. This just started tonight.

I've put some spaces in post #137 to fix that.

Hi, everybody

Let's forget this flame episode and concentrate the original gaming. The Darth Kryo's post was very promising and I believe that Metaverse could be cleaned for all kind of experiment scores.

That could bring back a real clean fight for the best positions.

Syrrus, just couple points ahead. Let's the fight continue.

TBAY, don't give up. Just go to fish and relax. After that the gaming and Metaverse could look much better.

Jarru, actually i don't have a game running ... so you can relax a while on the 3rd place you got right now.

I'm not in good condition today since italy kicked us.
But I also have some good news for you:

There is just another recalc going on ... right now the former 1st place is down with 130k points since all scores done with games before 1.1 are now almost worth nothing. This will also cause the first empires to drop. Well so it is up to us to go!
Yes. They have completed the recalc and our mighty empire is now in second place. Congratulations everyone. I am sorry couche left us because of last nights incident. We are now also a lot closer to no. 1. It seems like the unfun guy is having trouble recruiting to his empire. He will get top spot as a single player for a while until they adjust his scores for exploitation. I do not think he will be able to catch us on his own as an empire. I will get back to playing more and flaming less. Thanks for all your support. Arrogant people that think they are better than the rest of us really get to me sometimes. I will be posting a large suicidal military victory to my second character by tommorrow night. My computer runs to slow on huge and gigantic maps. It seems to run worse on 1.2 than it did on 1.1. Anyone else notice this? Bye for now. TBAY

Hey everyone! Wow, I was only gone a week! I don't care if there is a group exploiting the game to get to the top, then more power to them. I play for fun and as such I try to get a higher score than I did the game before. I think we have a good group of folks and as such I would hate to see it break up. We may have a bumpy ride ahead as they work out the details of the metaverse, but at least they have started working on it again.

Gotta unpack from the camping trip so that I can start a new game. Orca777, I got your image. I'll try to get it up soon. Till later!

Well, I have finially gotten everything cleaned and put up so that I can get in a little bit of gaming. I also managed to get caught up on reading a lot of the "flame war" that took place in other threads. While I can see both sides even Carielf contradicts herself when she said that they hide threads that expose an exploit. SD allowed the so called exploits to be shared and used as they do the experiment. Of course "we" did fire the first shot saying he was a cheater (and I would have as well had I been here) but all he had to do is reply with an "I'm not" and leave our thread. I know it isn't actually ours, but we've used it to discuss things that pertain to how we play and share with others things that work for us. There seems to have been many threads on the subject anyway without it carring over into this thread. It's a shame that it took place. TBAY, man I understand how you feel and think SD should be grateful to have customers that have as much passion for their product as you. I agree that a heads up would have been nice, but SD has lost a lot of their personal touch as of late so it is not surprising.

To anyone outside the empire reading this, I'm only stating how the situation appeared to me. Although I surely did not mean to, if I offeneded anyone I apologize. This is the last I'll say on the subject.

Now I'm told there is a colony ship loaded and ready to take off and the flagship is prepaired to seek out strange new worlds...let the conquest begin! Till later!

Ps. I apologize for the double post.

Hey welcome back Norad. How much of the score is integrally calculated vs what you have at the end of the game ? I mean if something like morale is important, do you need to watch it the whole game, or just make sure it's good at the end ?

I get the impression everything adds up through the game, so manipulating things at the end doesn't do much. Is that the case ?

Also do you think it's better to have 100% morale or a stronger economy ?

I'm playing out a game now where most of my planets are at 100%, but i'm wondering if i'd be better off raising my taxes...
Well, due to population growth bonus at 100%, I try to keep mine there as long as I can afford it. After I have a couple of good research planets set up and pumping out beakers, the rest of my planets have stock markets covering them. I can then normally set my tax rate to 80% and still keep 100% happy. Of course this has to be adjusted as I start dealing with advaned farms since they boost the population into that extreme unhappy range (25K+).

I'm fairly certain that it would not matter too much in the middle of the game when you have maxed out your planet growth to have higher taxes and less happiness but once you get advanced farms you want them to be 100% happy again until you can max out the population again. I've seen where people say that moral is important, but I think it is only important in getting that all important population number up. I haven't tested it to see if it matters if manipulating things at the end of game is just as productive as keeping it throughout the game.

Can't break 95k for anything. I just tried milking a game for a little bit, and i think i lost out by playing too long. I think my problem is i'm playing tight clusters, which my computer handles fairly well, but overall there's probably fewer planets than loose or scattered. I just don't see how to score any higher. What's sad is my new character in 4 games is only one rank back from my 32 game guy...

Hey everybody. Just want to welcome our two newest members. Say hello to Arbiter Gear and Colonel Mustard. The two of you will find a lot of helpfull gameplay hints if you sift through our previous posts in this thread. Feel free to ask any questions as we are all ready and willing to help. Bye for now. Gallagher, so you finally get in to break the 100k. What is your lowest scoring part - so we probably can find a way to improve that.

I played a lot of non-metavers games to ceck the racial abilities to my playing habit. Population growth helped a lot, but the effect on scoring isn't that big since planets are the limiting factor, especially on smaller maps. Soldiering and so on - well you don't get points. Has anyone tested the morale influence on social? I think economics is the best - but one have to buy thinks again and again to improve the other scoring parts as well. So this is a lot of management. But all these things become useless if you find a couple of eco bonuses on a map early. Then other abilities would helped more. So I find it hard to get the "perfect" settings for every map.

How do you spend points - this also seems to depend on your favourite side?
Well, of course for other strategies something like diplomacy and influence can work very good.

That game it was military, only got 12k. I was also playing loose clusters. It's almost like a job playing out a game like that at gigantic.

I think the hard part is knowing how long to play the game. That game I just attacked the last 4 civs one after the other, and each of them surrendered quickly. So I didn't really allow the populations to all get to 15 or 25B, or sit and build ships. The game was getting tiresome. I'm probably going to either play gigantic/tight, or try huge/loose for awhile.

For me my scores are fairly consistent :
Soceity, 30-35k
Tech, 20-25k
Econ, 50-55k
Military 12k-30k

For abilities, I've found i like production. So i take industrialists, and :
+20 social
+20 military
+20 pop growth
(+25% morale, i love the Dregin for this...)
+20 economy.
sometimes soldiering with last point, and sometimes 30% pop growth.

I like production, because i find i generally can't spend money fast enough. Also production can't be improved in-game other than the tecs. I think this gets everything rolling for me pretty quickly. I sometimes win games just in the colonization phase by effeciently building colony ships.

I also set anomolies to uncommon. I'm not sure how this works out for the AI, but I get probably way more than they do, and there are not enough of them to fuel anyone with loads of money. Abundant just seems cheesy.

I supose abundant anomolies might add to your score since some of them boost your abilities. I only say this because the abilities feed into everything else, and seem to be submitted when you post. Any opinions there ?

Hello to everyone. I would like to welcome our newest member. Please welcome Trinity. Trinity's total plus the scores the rest of us put up today will put us very close to the top. Exellent score Syrrus K. I wish I had a computer powerful enough to play the gigantic maps. When I play them, I have to save, Quit Reload every 6 turns and still have to take 10 minutes per turn after about the 4 year mark. You will be in the no. 1 spot on your own soon. Congratulations. Can you give us a game sequence of your last game and any tricks you might have used. It looks like playing as an evil race is the way to go. See you all Later. TBAY

hello everybody. Now we are really close to the top. Very good.

Gallagher: seems we use similar abilities. But I still take the economists (I try others sometimes), because this bonus pays off during the whole game. As an evil race and hopefully lots of eco-bonus starbases this gives me a very high eco score - and also a lot of money. I always take as a basic setting:

Pop growth: +30%
Research: +10%
Civ. Prod. +10%

The rest of points I spend on luck, morale and soldiering because I use high taxes (even more money) and I tend to conquer planets more than waiting for the ai's resign.

military bonus, well i use to buy everything after the "dry" starting period - or focus production on special planets. This works quite good.

As you said - I also think that it depends on your starting phase. Here you loose a lot of points when things don't get right quickly. The longer one have this low scoring turns in every part it is harder to balance the rating later on. The more planets you can get with more colony ships the faster you are with better ratings. But too much colonies are very hard to handle when many of them waste money.

I use to set anomalies to common. I think on abundant the ai gets much more than me. But I like to explore them when nothing happens on any planet. I guess that they have only little effect on your score. For example some of them can change your eco or research with +1%. But this is nothing when you own 3 mining starbases of every kind soon (gigantic map). And even with the luck ability I generally find events with bonuses (if not it is the 1 MC) i don't need.
Probably they are submitted for the checksum thing to prevent someone can easily edit them.

For your scoring - the research can be inceased when more planets have no more social projects to build. Buy the industry for the rest so they are done as well. What is your research rating? You also can buy ships as well and lower the military production for building labs.

For the military ranking it also depends how fast the tec rate is set to. On the fastest setting one can obtain better weapons quickly and then build/buy ships with higher rating very soon.

TBAY, not sure if evil is the only way. With my metaverse char I use to play evil only because it fits much more better to my playing strategy. On other post they say neutral is much more better for scoring. I think as long it fits to your habit any alignment will work.

Yes, the last game was quite good. I didn't play with abundant planets again and even with loose clusters there were about 450 planets. Some less then in my other big game. I guess this is why I could finish it much more earlier and having a higher score.

I also had a good starting position in the upper left corner. The Korx and Altarian as next neighbours. The Altarians had the best start of all - almost triple of my planet numer. When I was planning the first war against the Korx the Altarian started to fight the Drengin and Yor. While the Altarian fleet headed east to war I changed my fleet as well and then attacked the poorly defended Altarian worlds. My hevay fighters easily took out the whole Altarain fleet when they were massed on only a few points close to the Drengin. Because of that high number of planets I had to conquer I ran out of transports. But fortunately the Korx owned a lot - I bought 40 of them, got them on my territory asap, equipped the not complete filled ones and upgraded them into my fastest transports. This thing quick made me the leading race in all ways.

Then it was quite easy to keep the other ai happy while i took out the unhappiest ai one after one. During this time lots of time I spent dealing with my growing planet number to max every kind of score.

I always supported the Korx if necessary. They went on several wars with other good or neutral races. This helped to keep their fleets down until I found time to defeat them. Another thing is, that you can place contructors close to every ais mining starbase. After the Korx or anybody else destroyed them I quick build my own. So I got tons of bonuses very fast.
At the end the last ai, the Korx, got unhappy with me too and started war. But then I easily could pay 2.000.000 MC to have peace untill all my fleets were build and upgraded with the correct armor and weapons. The final war didn't last very long ...

I play normal speed research, and i'm considering playing fast for a better score. However, as far as fun goes i would almost like it slower so i'm not sure if i really want to play that way.

It seems the AI already outpaces its tec development vs social, i imagine it would be even worse with fast. Is that the case ?

(IE having industrial centers early in the game seems to cripple the AIs social growth since it doesn't quick build the first one)

Right now i'm tring out a game with 2 incredibles on gigantic. 3 i think would give suicidal rating, but i'm experimenting. I managed to get around 1/2 the map through the colony phase. The humans quickly declared war on me, and i've been picking off their planets ever since. I'm curious how quickly i can win this setup. I also took the cheese tactic of having lots of anomolies and building a lot of fast survey ships. I definately got more the the AIs.

Two questions :
1) do you try to stay below 20k to not suffer econ penalty, and does this affect scoring ?
2) do you sit and quick buy ships all over to keep building up your military score ?
