The combat dialog is not informative enough. It would be good if it would name the ship, whose space it is in (or neutral space) and what the nearest star (or other identifiable, perhaps searchable feature) is. I am sure in the future viewing the combat, etc. is in the cards, but right now it is a total mystery.

I only want one shipyard per solar system (whether one star or two, some stars are so close together the planets can easily share a shipyard in my mind and so are "binary" stars.) I can't really suss that out unless I have a minimap of the local star chart available when I am in the planet's build screen, or some indication of how far it is to the nearest shipyard. Are there solar system level improvements? Should there be?

The horrid thing about bow-using assassins is that the assassin weapons are melee weapons. Further, I don't have any heroes using a bow because of the penalties to initiative. The one thing that bugs me is that warriors have a swarm bonus, and assassins do not have an attack-from-behind bonus. It may be implicit in the swarm system in that when I do attack from behind it appears to work better than from the front. I am too lazy to try to time things out for the assa

The metaverse section of this site is seriously broken. The first page starts with 1-9, and then everyone is ranked 0. Also, I posted a result, and my score did not change that I could tell. (I didn't have the old exact number on me, but any change was less than 1000) Could someone take a look at it? Thanks! MoseyingAlong

"We are better off dealing with you before you deal with us." What does that mean? How do I placate them? I do not have a strong military -- I am not a threat, and I have neutral or better relations with every race.

Now that I am playing Maso more often, I keep getting the message from various AIs that it needs to deal with me before I deal with it. How can I prevent this from happening? Why does it do that when I am not a military threat to the AI?

I usually play with a 5% planet quality improvement. That means that with Soil Improvement, all 15s become 17s, and all 14s become 16s. That means that while I will not rush to take a 14 (it is a race for the 15+ planets, you can fill in 14s later) I will do it moderately quickly. However, 13s are not worth colonizing until Habitat Improvement is available and even then will have a significant carrying cost while the improvements build unless I have the cash for a straight purchase.

Howdy. Trading techs is a strategy at difficulty less than masochistic. They key is to 1) trade the same tech to several other civilizations on one turn; 2) be a broker, and retrade the techs you traded from other civilizations to each other; and 3) maintain a monopoly on techs that lead to wonders until you build the wonder, and/or provide important bonuses. The most important bonuses to have as an exclusive advantage are population growth, morale, and diplomacy. As long a

There is one failing and one successful alien civilization. I have a big technology lead, equal population, but military inferiority to the other successful civilization. (How does the AI build all those freaking Rangers and Avatars?) Anyway, at this point my easiest wins appear to be alliance with the other succesful civilization. The alternative would be to shoot for a tech victory or a cultural victory. I find it hard to believe that I can build enough monster ships to win a sho

Thanks for pointing out F8. The icon up above is a bit of a pain. What would be really nice is if I could see a map of influence. A little bar graph superimposed over each sector would be good. For example, for empires 1-6 (color coded, of course, but not in this message): ___4__ _2_4__ 12_45_ 123456 Oh my. Starbases are multiplicative ? I try not to take advantage of cheese tactics that are really software bugs. That has to be an accident.

Some great ideas here! To tell the truth, I usually trade technology or technology and small cash for a starbase. Often what I am doing is upgrading a starbase created by another. Does upgrading create the same problems as creating an initial starbase?

Actually, I usually don't have "enemies", just friends and neutrals that I want to see things my way. ;) As you might guess, I tend to play Universalists. I often put cultural palaces in both my sectors and their sectors. I have yet to receive a demand for turnover. It may be that I do not build starbases in sectors where I am not at least competitive in influence already. I am just not sure which is more effective. (The following from the Encyclopedia) Here i

I often try to convert a nearby planet of another civilization by building a space station with a bunch of cultural improvements (up to the palace). If my planet is in one sector, and the enemy planet is in an adjacent sector, should I build the cultural platform in my sector or his sector? I am not sure how the mechanics work, so tips from the knowledgable would be appreciated. MoseyingAlong
