Just joined Beta 3. I'm experiencing the same (thanks for the disable lighting tip [e digicons][/e] ). In my experience the game will start up blurry/non-blurry randomly. However, if I go to desktop and then come back it will always go blurry if it wasn't already. Hope this added detail is of any value.

Unfortunately this is exactly what is going on. If you don't build anything on a planet all assigned production funds go down the drain. What I usually do is build something I don't want at the moment and the change production 1 round before completion. Yes, more micromanagement. And as far as I can tell your research doesn't carry over, but I haven't really tested this out. So instead of eliminating micromanagement by letting the system auto-optimize, the designers se

As far as I can tell the research works similar to the social projects in that you can research one tech for a while then change to another and the go back to the previous tech and continue from where you left off. So what I do when I come across a research anomaly while researching some cheap tech is to just switch to the most expensive one I have available and then switch back afterwards. Of course you need to remember which one you're "anomaly researching" for the best effect. <

Can someone explain to me the meaning of the gold/bronze/whatever color bars next to your alignment face in the posts? (NOT the rank insignia, the other bars) Not everyone seems to have them and I can't seem to find any pattern to who has what number of them. ~SDC~

You may not need 20bil soldiers to take a 20bil star system. It all depends on your soldiering ability compared to that of your enemy. And of course you can use one of the invasion tactics if you have the money. I can't give you any numbers, but it's my experience that invading with a number of soldiers equal to the system's population usually gives me a HUGE advantage. However, I have been beaten on some occasions when attacking highly militarized civs. Also remember that taki

Actually I use them to put markers on the map so I can remember where the different resources are LOL Since you can rename them you can write something like "Tech 1, Yor SB 166" or whatever. ~SDC~

I can't give you a 100% sure way to get close with an AI civ, but establishing trade routes is probably the best way. If AI the civ is of good alignment it also helps to be good yourself or at least neutral. It's usually also better if your military is not significantly weaker the the AI's. Finally it's my experience that if an AI civ is at war with other AI civs it will tend to try to keep better relations with the remaining civs including yours. ~SDC~

Well, basically when doing diplomatic trading, cash can be traded over 0 to X turns. (Yes, I know X is finite, but I can't remember what it is right now. Something like 50 turns I think.) This is what is referred to as "Tribute" in the economy screen. So let's say you trade some tech to the AI and you want cash. You could choose to have maybe 200bc now (0 turns), or 120bc now and again next turn (1 turn), or 90bc now and over the next two turns, etc. Basically this means you've

I haven't encountered any cap so far. Don't know if there even is one. However, I don't see a problem with the colony ships being better at civilian transport than combat transports. A combat transport is a specialized vehicle intended to land troops on hostile planets and includes loads of weaponry. A colony ship has no use other than carry a bunch of noncombatants from planet A to planet B. I don't really see the need for the civilian transport. The colony ship does an adequa

This is also a good way to redistribute population between planets in the same system if you have one planet with substantially higher PQ. When you load it the "cargo" will be drawn from all planets in the system, but you can just dump it all back on the high PQ one. ~SDC~

His idea about putting the S+ bases in sectors without a TC is that it would reduce the time spent in non TC sectors. But if you already have a starbase in that sector I think I would always choose to add the 50% trade bonus anyway, since it's only costing me 3 constructors and no additional maintenance. ~SDC~

The number of planets you have shouldn't influence your morale. Morale is determined for each planet individually depending on its PQ and population size, modified by tax rate, morale bonuses (from techs, trade goods, wonders, anomalies, resources, and starting picks), morale improvements built on the planet, and any funds you dedicate to keep the morale on that planet high (from the planet details screen). There might also be planet specific morale bonuses assigned during colo

To be honest, I don't really know. Usually you get a pop-up message when another civ has completed a wonder or trade good, but apart from that I don't know how to tell (other than accidentally invading the planet it's on). It boosts your economy by 25% by the way. Not just the planet, but your entire economy AFAIK. ~SDC~

Actually, AFAIK *when* you build the ship doesn't really matter. So if you build a ship on a planet and later build a shipyard on that planet then the ship will get the new bonus. One more reason for concentrating your ship building on a handful of specialized planets, and to select these planets as early in the game as possible. ~SDC~

The Life Force is a galactic wonder (only 1 allowed in the galaxy). Could it be that one of the other civs already has built it? ~SDC~

(a) Remember that bonuses are always rounded down, so they might not be that visible on the early ship classes. (b) Is there a fleet bonus? I've never seen anything mentioned, so I thought the computer just picks the best ship to defend whenever your fleet is attacked. ~SDC~

Could be that has something to do with it being harder to culture flip the last remaining system of a race. Since most minor races will only have one system in most games that would make them hard to flip compared to system 19 of the Torians or whatever. Or maybe home systems are immune to culture flips... I don't have any facts to base this on, but it would seem likely that the developers would have made it harder to completely wipe out a race by culture flip. ~

You are absolutely right. I remembered wrong. Actually my trade route bonus is 5. So... in conclusion: To see how many trade routes you can have go to the stats tab under domestic policy. Find the bonus for trade routes and add one to that number. ~SDC~

Yep, it's always a good idea to have a freighter ready to swoop in and open a trade route the same turn you get a new tech allowing you an additional route. But I'd still prefer not to waste credits on freighters that are no use to me at the moment even if they could potentially be useful later. I've noticed that under the stats tab on the economy screen you can see how many additional trade routes you can have which in my case at the moment is two less than my total establishe
