- the ability to center on a ship like you can do on the main map - the ability to stay at scale when it centers - slightly larger zoom buttons - a slightly lighter shade of blue to show Terran cultural influence (I don't remember it being so hard to differentiate in the OS/2 version) AND I'd like to have a clock in one of the lower corners, sort of like the one on this forum page. That way I can look at every hour or so and say to myself, "I am an idiot... I should save the

Elrikk, excellent "disable auto-focus" suggestion. Jack, a large part of my war strategy depends on being able to scan enemy ships. My 4Z game hasn't involved any warfare, is the ability to select enemy ships gone? Lastly, I just started playing again (took a game break for the first couple weeks of University) and was able to confirm a bug I'd never been able to pin down before because it always seemed to happen in gi-normous galaxies with lots of micro-management to confu
Master Lame, You are correct. There are 28 people involved, but only 3-5 of them are still free and independent from the yoke of Drengin tyranny. Eventually, we will all show up on Drengin hors d'oeuvres plates. Suggestion/Questions: In the colonization stages of the game I'd prefer an input field to a slider when loading ships. How easy would this be to change/add at this stage? Is it worth it? I know that in the late stages of the game ship loading usua
Well, I've just killed my third game with beta 4D after being overwhelmed by the AI civilizations again. This time I cut back to just 4 other civs set to average. However, if anything, the game was even more lopsided than my first two games. I might try a small galaxy and a radically different approach from the style that let me beat the average setting in 4C, but at this point it looks like it's back to playing against dummies, again. Two steps forward, one step back. Game three was pl
"9) After trading with one civilizations, the next civ offered items that I already had (just traded for). The tech tree was not updated already." As well, when attempting to trade, the AI civ's tech list displays technology that the player does not have, but the player's tech list includes technology that the AI MUST have (Diplomacy, Universal Translator, etc) and technology that the AI almost certainly has (Trade, the base Theory techs, etc). Of course, when you attempt to trade any o
How much of this has changed? It used to be that losing an election under any party's rule caused the overflow. I did notice that losing under the War Party in last night's game didn't generate the overflow, but I've had it before 4D as a Federalist and a Technologist. End transmission.

I'm not sure I can agree with you yet, Brad. I played my first game on 4D today - or rather, tried to. I've been on the verge of moving up to smart AIs, as the average setting was getting too easy. But my 4D game was unbalanced in a bad way. Examples: 1) The only way to trade with an AI is to surrender all of your trade goods in return for 1 or 2 AI trade goods. Actually, it's worked this way in every game I've played until the game I played running 4C. I've worked around it by
Me three would like a "not building" warning. I used to think that this was one of the "re-load game bugs", but it happens quite often. I've found that the only way to be sure you don't have a lame duck is to click your way through the Events window in the lower right corner after you've gone through the usual windowed completion/new build process. End transmission.
Brad or Cari, I've got a two saved games that show the missing month bug (and possibly others) on re-load. The first is saved with one ship left to move at Aug 2196. It loads into Sep 2196 with the same ship left to move, a massive drop in my treasury (possibly due to my economy suddenly at -530 BC instead of +30/50). The Drengin have JUST been wiped out, but they show a ship or two as active and the Diplomacy screen still has them listed. Perhaps related to the snafu, the Arce
"As a party in a democratic society you can lose power for many years." - Ensign Technician This is particularly true in a republic where, as Technician points out: "Having the President belonging to one party and everybody else a different policy just means it is harder for the President to control policy." Lucky Jack's suspicion about OS2/Win carry-over is correct, several times I've lost control of the senate and been prevented from going to war. (Bloody peaceniks!
This sounds plausible. The first time I reloaded my latest game I had a few planets with empty Social build queues. (Military queues would just keep producing the same ship, right?) The next time I reloaded I had almost a dozen empty queues. In a gigantic galaxy with lots of production going on, a missing month's worth of time would certainly account for the unmanaged queues.
Jack, I figured Stardock was already working this one out, since it's been around for a while. However, I was just reading another thread where the influence bug (lose an election, gain a galaxy) seemed to be new to Brad, so I thought I'd throw my two cents into the pot. CTD This has happened to me a couple of times. In both cases, I accidentally selected the Minor Races diplomacy tab when the Minor Races had ceased to exist. I figured there was no error trap in place for t
"Gigantic" game, all AIs set to Average. Auto-pilot Auto-pilot only seems to work when you are viewing a sector that contains a ship on auto. If you aren’t watching a ship it will often stay parked – sometimes just for 3 or 4 turns, but usually until you take control of the ship again. This is happening with View Auto-pilot (?) turned on in the main screen (not Options). Restricted Exploration Event at UP UP voted to restrict anomalies. Within a dozen turns th

Doh! I meant to type spend rate at 100%, tax rate at 60%; and if I wasn't an idiot, that's exactly what would have happened. :notsure:
For me, boosting your economy means tax rate at 100%, spend rate at 60%. As long as nobody's voting for me, I'm not too concerned about what the citizens think of me as a human being. ;) Besides, the approval rating usually rises fairly quickly. When approval starts to sag again, you lower your tax rate. When your treasury starts to hemorrhage due to lost tax revenue, go for the tech that increases your maximum trade routes by 1 and fill that third route right away. If you've got a tr
I go for Propulsion Theory, Cold Fusion, Medical Theory (with my tax & spend rate, I usually get the Research Lab just as my first Soil Enhancement is built), Impulse Drive (Transports!), then Industrial Theory. I sometimes as long as Warp Drive before getting Communications Theory, particularly in larger galaxies where I don't meet aliens until later in the game. This is always nice, because by the time I meet the aliens I'm whizzing around at warp speed and Earth is working on Gravity
So, Brad SEEMS to have indicated that Terror Stars DESTROY STAR SYSTEMS, although his wording was a little vague... Would it be possible to put Planet Busters in 1.x? That is, an upgraded star base or gigantic star ship capable of destroying the planet of your choice in a given star system. So, the Drengin could arrive at the Solar System, destroy an outer planet, then send a delegation to the Terrans and ask whether they "would like to cede ownership of the Solar System to the
“What about unprovoked wars and attacks? The Altarians are supposed to be good - but they just launched an unprovoked war on me - how can that be good?” - Grifman “being good does DECREASE the likelihood of the good AI players wanting to attack you… But there are other factors involved.” - Frogboy I think Keith Bennett’s EU-based suggestion for including a Casus Belli meter would go a long way towards explaining “unprovoked wars”. With the appropriate level of espionage, you sh
Borders make sense in a relatively small 3-dimensional space (like Earth's biosphere), but I don't think they're worth trying to implement in a space game. Keep in mind that the galactic map is limited by the choice of display. We're looking at a 2D representation of a 3D galaxy. What might appear as fleets of starships passing through your territory is more likely to be fleets of starships passing through unoccupied, and hopefully unmonitored, space. Sensors should tell you that this b
Some random thoughts: 'I do think that declaring a war against another race where the relations are neutral or better should cause public unrest for a good empire.' Isn't this covered by the senate vote (assuming you are beyond imperialism). If public opinion opposes war, then that is reflected in the vote. Remember that Western democracy (which seems to be the moral model for 'good' societies in GalCiv) is only about three centuries old; modern democracy (1 adult, 1 v
I know this was covered in an earlier thread, but would it be possible to have a "Continue Play?" option for victories that are not military? You could choose whether to post your score at this point, but continuing play would either not add to your total, or not give you the option to post the score. I like to play right to the bitter end of the tech tree as a way of affirming my non-life. Also, I've yet to get a score higher than the total for your average hockey game, so I would glad
Thanks, Arturus. Now the galaxy will truly be mine! Bwahaha (cough, cough) heh.
Does anybody else find a parallel between the improving game and actual game play? Each new beta is like a building a galactic wonder. :CONGRAT: Bugs and Features: 1) I am still unable to center the screen on a Survey Ship. I seem to remember some of the other ships having this problem once in a while, but it has never worked on a Survey Ship for some reason. 2) The end of game summary has obviously been re-done, but the Total fields are still meaningless (each civ i
