Same thing happened to me in my last game - and the summary still shows every result as a cakewalk. (Haven't played 3Z yet, though.) I'm going to try changing my culture and name to see whether I still get reported as the Unknown Emperor. Is it possible for an AI to research some sort of Tech victory (which would be misreported as a military defeat for the player) while showing overwhelming inferiority on its Tech score? Does anybody know what files to check to see whether this might be

I'll take quality and stability over arbitrary release dates, any day (literally). "We shall release no game before its time." - Our Son Welles Regarding complaing to the AIs: would it be easy to program degrees of complaint (mildly annoyed, pissed, preparing for war) and let the user fill in the text for their own game by editting whatever file holds the generic text? Just a thought. Would it be even easier to worry about that after beta 4? End transmission.

My troubleshooting skills have gotten a little rusty. The one thing that all of these recent games had in common was my choice of the Pacifist Party. I started a new game last night on a large map and reverted to War Party - no problems. Which would seem to indicate a bug with the way influence is calculated under a Pacifist-led government and tells me that I may never know how NWN ends. End transmission.

Jotun, This sounds like the influence bug I reported three days ago. If you check your influence rating in individual sectors, does it show up as several hundred million? All my games now behave this way; usually starting after about 10 or 15 minutes of playing time. I'm usually credited with a diplomatic or cultural victory depending on whether any of the AI cultures that have declared themselves as allies (it usually happens before I can research Alliances) outlast the mass d

Okay, what I should have typed was: Every game now ends with ridiculous cultural influence numbers, except it's happening much faster now. I thought it might be tied to destabilising the AI economies, but that's not it. Oh well, back to NWN until Beta 4 arrives. End transmission. :(

I haven't found mention of this before... In two of my last three games I’ve had the map suddenly go solid blue, indicating a surge in Terran cultural influence. I checked the nifty sector influence button in the first game and discovered that Terran influence in all sectors was 665834513. In the third game it was 775581349. Needless to say, with influence at this level, planets start defecting like geeks drawn to a supermodel. The second game was similar. Some sectors didn't go over to

LJ, I think our views do synchronise, because I agree with what you've said. But what you said was: "one glaring example I see is Russia's switch to capitalism." This is exactly the point I was trying to make: cultural influence may bring about ECONOMIC, moral, and other changes (internal political structure, external allegiances, etc). I'm wasn't surprised that it happened; people want to be free and it takes a lot of (misspent) money to keep that freedom from them. H

And now for something completely different… I know the AI isn’t complete, and I’ve actually seen it start to adapt to cultural conquest (defecting planets were building News Network), but I’m not sure that there aren’t a couple of inherent problems with cultural conquest. If you’re going for military victory, each planet you take over adds to your cultural influence while (presumably) subtracting a similar amount of influence from your enemy. With only a couple of invasions, yo

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to split up the star base modules? Say something like this… Lunar Bases - available at the start of the game - 1 per uninhabited star system, precludes further Lunar or Planetary Bases in the system - can be built on any planet with a moon (gas giants? class N?) - additional modules multiply research output - additional modules add to social and military output, morale, economy, and influence Planetary Bases - available

In the first beta2 game I played, I placed starbases near star systems that had lower quality planets. I figured they had to have nearby resources to exploit. By sheer co-incidence, a number of those star systems soon had habitable planets that the UP assembled to divvy up. I say sheer co-incidence because it hasn't happened in any subsequent game. BUT, would it be possible to make this a feature? That is, once a culture has researched Terraforming, would it be possible to give

Considering GalCiv's history, you'd think that everyone here would want Cultural Conquest to be a difficult victory to achieve. As long as a lone starbase in an otherwise empty sector of a gigantic starmap is still using ancient, unsupported software to run the bots in their loading bay, Cultural Conquest should be an impossibility. You'd either have to convince that starbase to "upgrade" its software (sell your culture), build a bigger starbase in that sector (assert your own culture), or blow
