I definitely prefer the 3 columns. I run in 1600x1200 so that I can have the most info possible on screen, and the 3 column system works well for that. Didn't you already implement something that decides between 2 and 3 columns based on your resolution? AJ

Great work, if this is a complete operating system, then I am very impressed. I assume that it uses parts of MS's API though (such as the COM). Any plans to build support for apps other than windows based into it?
If you're referring to WindowFX (eFX is a different program altogether), I've not had the problems you mention. It's probably worth posting a little more info such as your graphics card and driver version, which will give the developers a little more to go on. It should automatically install the skin and be present in the list of skins. If it's not showing up there, just right click the link and choose save as from the menu.

Sorry if it's not the answer you're looking for, but NORTON IS THE DEVIL. If I were you, I'd uninstall Norton, and take the cd and smash it into tiny pieces, then jump up and down on the tiny pieces until they're merely dust. I personally don't feel the need for an Internet security program, but if you do, there are better alternatives out there than Symantec's line of products. Something like ZoneAlarm would probably do the job. AJ

This just serves to reiterate McNeil's lack of understanding for modern computer systems and the needs of users. Raskin is merely participating because it's huge publicity for a largely washed out "authority" on such things, and may actually help him sell a book for the first time in years.

I have a client in New York that insists on Filemaker. I have attempted to point out to him the error of his ways on many occasions, pointing out that FMP is at least as bad as Access, if not worse (because at least Access is vaguely exstensible). I think I may have swung him a little towards MySQL, being as it's a solid platform and you can't argue with the price (free).

You can apply transparency to shortcuts in DesktopX, but then you'd need to create the shortcut objects to start with. Wouldn't be too hard though, but would take longer to set up than your app. The one thing I'm not 100% sure of is that the transparency in 2k/XP is done by setting the window style to WS_LAYERED (or something like that), and desktop icons aren't treated as windows. If you can figure it out though, it would be pretty neat. AJ

It's not so much the fact that Apple are doing this (again) that bothers me. What bothers me is the way the legal system in the US is set up, so that the person who's prepared to throw the most money at a case is practically guaranteed a win. While asking sites to take down themes that mimic OSX is not a big deal, they have in the past demonstrated a little more on the side of unreason, thus forcing the name of an icon set, I believe it was called Aqua XP, to have the name changed to Cobalt XP.
It depends on the surface it's on. I've found that with optical mice, if they're on a surface with a small repetitive, they tend to jitter a bit, even when they're not moving. This would indeed produce that effect. The trick is to make sure that you have either a suitable desktop or mouse pad to put them on. I think it's due to a mixture of things. The release of Windows XP will certainly have opened more peoples' eyes to the world of skinning, and WindowBlinds being the official Microsoft approved solution for skinning XP has given Stardock some pretty decent exposure. Coupled with the increased exposure and awareness of users in general, WB has got to be a lot faster and more stable in the past few months. It's the same bug that made some people think that they were banned from here, I had it here once, if I recall, I fixed it by deleting all of my cookies and logging in again. Hope this helps, AJ
