I like when the AI drops a trade route on a class 4 planet, when there's a class 18...RIGHT NEXT TO IT! Sometimes it colonizes a class 4 with a class 18 next to it.
2. I agree with this problem. Its why tactical combat in MOO made some sense every now and then. MOO and GalCiv both don't always go after the right target. 3. I have said this from the start. I think its silly to have starbases near planets but not have the capability to attack.
No, the multi-thread option has been in from the beginning. It is an entry in the Prefs.ini, as is the AI setting. But the AI setting is not working yet, I'm pretty sure. There has been some other threads on it as well. Setting the value to 1 gets changed back to 0 by default. These are the two entries in the Prefs.ini: HyperthreadEnhancement=1 AllowCPUInte
It may depend on whether the program is multi-threaded or not. If it is a single thread, it will be difficult to go off and do other things and keep the UI responsive due to the event driven nature of Windows programming. If it is multi-threaded, you could have a thread in the background crunching some of this stuff but multi-threaded programming has its own set of problems to overcome. Last time I looked into it, most game programming has not moved toward multi-threaded applications yet but
Nice post AngleWyrm. I like posts providing proof with data.
I want to zoom in and see Jennifer Aniston sunbathing topless in her back yard! My point is that everyone has AI's, everyone has UI's, every game of this genre has essentially the same core components. Having those components and
No, you sum up the differences in each individual colour. 255 0 0 and 0 0 255 would have a difference of 510. Ahh, I misunderstood your answer. That might work if the number were big enough to truly be a difference yet leave enough area to give us choices. I agree that its annoying since everytime I try to pick a color that I think will be d
I think you will find the game well worth the money. I am not completely happy with every aspect of the game but to expect it to be perfect is senseless. To me, it is a value issue. Will I get enough fun time to justify the $40 cost. I can honestly say that I have not doubt of that assuming you are a 4X game lover. For too long I have looked for a replacement for my all time favorite MOO2. It looks like I have found it. Thats probably the best indication I can give you on how good the gam
thats what the auto-explore command is for, the only problem is the AI for it is really bad, ships tend to follow eachother around which does help you find new planets very well Now we have come full circle. Thats what the discussion is about, the autoexplore algorithm needs to be improved to make it reasonably efficient.
If you find exploration tedious, tough; that's what you paid for when you bought a 4X game. I find it enjoyable. You just don't get it. Its not exploration that I find tedious and I agree its part of a 4X game. I just find continually having to redirect the ship during exploration tedious. There is a difference. I love driving through the
Well, maybe you should just have a "Win Game" button that lets the AI make your moves for you. That wouldn't be monotonous and repetitive If you don't want to play the game, don't play the game. If you can't be bothered to move a couple of ships around under autopilot (which doesn't even involve moving them yourself), I don't see how you can be much of a fan of TB
Now what was this subject about? Something about fighting oneself or beating your big hairy ...., oh yeah, masterb......
So what you do is sum up all the differences between each RGB value. If the total is less than, say, 50 or so, then the alternative colour is used. That won't work either because then 255 0 0 would be considered to be the same as 0 0 255 but they are completely different colors.
Ok, so I see that if you zoom in on a planet, you can see the rotation and the cloud formations, etc. And I see that if you zoom in on a star, you can sometimes see swirling gases on the surface. Those are nice little touches. How about some more like solar flares on the stars, or lightning flashes in the clouds of the planets? Maybe small meteor impacts on the moons? Ooh,
Those formulas could easily be outdated. You better check the small section "Game version 1.1" below "Initial Population Growth//Illustrative Numbers" title. I saw that but I thought the point here was how does the population formula work, not what are the approximate increases based on morale. I want to know how it works to see if my strateg
I agree that it would be nice if the computers each had an alternative colour scheme and logos for when the human picks a similar colour or the same logo. That would be nice but the problem is probably going to be that each color is a number for RGB each being 0-255. R=200 G=200 B=200 is a different color from R=199 G=199 B=199 but when you l
I have seen it mentioned several times. Its just the way it is. But it is that way for everyone so no one has an advantage because of it.
When I play, I usually play to the end of a turn and then save before hitting "End Turn". Why not change the setting on the autosave to a lower number?
I think one point made originally is still a valid one. If going to 81% taxation drops your morale to zero, why bother letting you set it any higher than 80%? Wouldn't that make more sense? Thats exactly what I thought.
While it does seem the squeeky wheel gets the grease I caution you to remember that the developers aren't really here just to answer everyones question and can't possibly do it anyway. I really consider the forums to be a way for us to answer each others questions and for the developers to be get involved as necessary. I also caution you to continue the polite way as much as possible as there are too many here already that rant and rave and if I were the developer, I would start avoiding those
But it's early game. You've got 2, maybe 3 ships out there. What else are you going to do with the time? First off, I don't like anything that is monotonous and repetitive and thats exactly what exploring is. So even early in the game, I like to move on without continuously having to point the ship in the right direction. Don't get me wrong,
I didn't say it didn't need to go further in the sense of "It's brilliant". I said it in the sense of "It's won awards, and Stardock improve out of choice". Yes, 1.0x was really needed. But Stardock could have said "Sod off, and come back in six months, and we'll think about it". I didn't say it was perfect in 1.0. I said they didn't have to touch it, but they chose to.
First things first. The word "Need" is a no. "would be great if" "please can this be done" is good. "need" is bad. This game didn't need to go past 1.0, and reap the rewards of it's success. I have to jump on my soapbox now. I am sick of those here that keep saying it was great at 1.0 and didn't need to go further. There have been too many im
