As for the Icon Packages it may be doable but, there are a number of issues with doing it in regards to Stardock's permission and then creator of the icon packages. For many of the shell icons you can read the icon value from the registry and update the icon based on that. I believe RomanDA did a Tutorial on reading/writing to the registry a while back which should get you started. As for the specific shell icons a good place for that information is VirtualPlastic.

starker's, Woolworth had a nail in the coffin for year's they went under her in Canada basically in the early '90s recession. Your comment abour perishables was good but, global food production was the lowest in 50 years last year. If it continues to drop when the recession end's there will be substantial inflation in the average person's grocery bill. Zubaz mad a good point. Last year laptop sales passed desktop sales, though with the economy I'm not sure that will be true for 2009.

Skinning itself isn't recession proof but, skinner's can be based on the broadd range of skills the have. Solid companies will boost their R&D and if relevant companies see a tangible need for skin's than their may be a boost. The other side of the equation is how many new skinner's will enter the market thus making it more competitive and less profitable. I wish I had lot's of mony because I'd by a lot of the foreclosed home's at a third of the price. Then turn around and sell it back to the original owner at that rate plus costs and say 5% then hold the initial mortgage. People would actually have a mortgage they could pay. I think we're all trying to explain the same thing. Simply put if the file extension is .gadget then it won't run as a standalone app natively on XP.

If you're referring to Vista Sidebar gadget's then the only way is via a patched/hacked bar. There are thread's about this either at Neowin or WinMatrix. Doing it most likely will invalidate your computer warranty and definitely not recommended for computer novices.

Hey, that's the way I would've done it. No need to script anything unless you want to get the wallpaper colour value and have the rain image adjust itself automatically. I think that'd be pretty cool. If memory serves correctly there's an object or widget in the gallery that demonstrates how to read pixel values.

We lost our computer's the same day and got them back up in the same time frame. It was four years for me though. My external drive got fried so, I lost everything except my graphics and some old backups of DesktopX folders. Wish I could say my computer is faster but, it's actually slower. Good point Taepodong. There seems to be a whole new industry of simply patenting concepts/ideas. This seems to have been cultivated mostly by lawyers. The issue still remains the same for the little guys such as inventors and small business.

You have to give it their legal team. Not that this is a shining example of the patent office. The patent system needs an overhaul and too get with the times...at least maybe they could catch up to last century? Enforcing a patent is significantly harder than getting it. Great for lawyers bad for everyone else. Part of me just sees this as another feather they will throw into their marketing cap. We invented, we invented that, we created clean air, blah blah blah.

Yeah, the Imagemagick.dll would handle both .png & .gif but, if you wanted only png then my suggestion would be to use the DXCanvas plugin. If I had the tools I'd probably try to make a specific plugin using only the necessary functions from the ImageMagick sources, they are open for non-commercial purposes I believe.

There are many ways to do this. The easiest is to make the calendar/clock object a contained child of the sliding/shrinking object. To obtain the same animation effect you then need to set up calculations in the script. For a simple solution you might want to use a timer to fade the calendar/clock to transparent when you slide up or shink then fade in to full opacity when sliding down or growing.

Played around with the standard DX shadows awhile back and they didn't work but, no crash on XP SP2. When you think about it I don't think standard shadows are available for any of the plugins unless it is part of the plugin.

You might want to lock down a layer. Specifically the list box. At the moment I'm looking at the list box control and the rest of the gadget has gone AWOL.
