It took me a couple of months to get used to SKS6 and finally stop using SKS5 completely. It was a difficult habit to break, and for a while I would make my XP skins in 5, then switch to 6 and make the Vista substyles. I'd been using 5 for many years and when you're really comfortable with a program, it's natural to resist major design changes that impact your workflow. But it really didn't take long to develop a new workflow with SKS6. However, the only way to really get used to it is

Well, I actually made that WB. :) But the main skin is a light background version. It was created just to avoid these problems. If you use that substyle, you'll be all set. The dark background substyle was included for anyone who was willing to overlook those issues.
It looks like you're running a skin that uses dark window backgrounds. This is a perfect example of why some of us don't design skins like that. :) Open it up in SkinStudio and go to the Change Skin Colors section. Switch the drop-down menu to "Show skin defined system colors" and you will most likely find that "Window background" is the color you need to change. You may need to modify the "Window text" color also to make sure it contrasts well enough. Most likely it was se
I thought the skincast was great. You guys kept things moving and the topics were interesting. The only problem was I didn't have 30 spare minutes to listen to the whole thing. :)
Gabe! It's good to see you around. Hurry up and ace that silly Bar exam so you can get back to some serious skinning. :)
Remember that time you found a quarter on the sidewalk? That was it! :)
8SE8, the catch is that the fancy per-pixel window frames introduced a couple years ago with WB5 haven't supported any additional buttons aside from the standard min/max/close. And since everybody likes to make skins with the smoothest, cleanest looking window frames possible, we aren't seeing many new skins with the old style window frames and lots of extra buttons. On the bright side, per-pixel window frames now support a few custom buttons as of very recently, so per
That's funny, I was just thinking how great it would be if somebody bought me a Blackberry Pearl. :)
If you have the latest WindowBlinds installed, you should already have a skin called Leo. It's a mac-type skin with 1 pixel borders. That's pretty darn close. :)
Thanks all! I am not 39 but...I wont complain
I'm not 33 anymore either, but I'll take a bonus year. :) I think it was still March 13th in WC's time zone when Snowy looked up our ages .
Thanks a lot, Snowy and everyone! :D
Go to the home page and look at the top of the right column for the "Subscriber Resources" link. It's in the list under your user name and icon. Or go here: https://www.wincustomize.com/subscribers.aspx :)
I usually reference a thesaurus, dictionary, or encyclopedia if I have a basic idea to start with. I often look at space and science web sites and scan for words or prefixes or suffixes that are interesting. I tend to make a list of them and see what I can mash together or alter to make a decent name. Once I settle on something, I open up Stardock Central and search the WC galleries to see if anyone else has already used it.
Darken, the skin does not have perpixel frames, but Vista shadows are not supposed to be enabled in it either, since they don't match the frame shape. I'm not sure why you have shadows in your screenshot. I also have no idea why half of your window frame doesn't show up. There's no reason why those progress bars shouldn't be skinned either. You should probably contact support about that one. Maybe you got a bad download? As for the Vista ready bit... most, if not all possible Vista pa
That's awesome, Zubaz. Congrats! One of these days I'm going to make a pledge and get myself one of those NPR coffee mugs. :)
I would guess it refers to 48px icons on the start menu. Does the skin have a compact start menu (icons with no text on the right side)? If so, then the size of your desktop icons will impact how things align there. Sometimes skin authors will make an extra substyle to support different icons sizes. In XP, normal icons are 32x32, large icons are 48x48.
Wow, that is weird. I have SKS5 and 6 on my machine without any problems. Computers work in mysterious ways. :)
I don't really have any clue how DX interacts with the Vista sidebar. I just selected the option when I exported my gadget and let DX worry about the rest. I would expect that all sidebar gadgets created with DX would suffer from the same problem.
:CONGRAT:
If you open the skin in SkinStudio and remove the Start Button Glow image, that will take care of it.
Thanks for the kinds words, everybody. :) Kperry, the sidebar's appearance may depend on whether you have your sidebar set to Always on Top or not. It is not "always on top" in the screenshot.
Unfortunately, there aren't any content margins for popup menus. The shadow is drawn by Windows and it assumes all menus are rectangular. So you have to either work with that, or disable those shadows and make the shadow part of your menu image instead. That doesn't leave you much room to work with though, since there are no content margins. This is the case on both XP and Vista. Good luck and happy new year to you too! :)
Happy New Year, everybody! :CONGRAT:
You can see the skin Solarion was based on in the Installer screenshot.
