Are you still using XP, Z71? I find the small shellstyle icons rather pointless and distracting, so that's why I tend to make them blank. I don't see any reason to skin them just because I can if it doesn't enhance the design. Is it really effecting usability for you?

I'll try to clarify. The start button image state order goes like this.. Normal Pressed Disabled Mouseover Default Animation frame 1 Animation frame 2 etc. The single image mouseover state is not next to the animation frames. It is separated from them by the default state. I don't think the mouseover state on the 4th frame will be used by WindowBlinds if there is are animation frames included, but it needs to be there anyway.
Unfortunately, a Start button can only be animated on the mouseover state, so you can't have an animation when it is idle or pressed. As far as image states go, it's Normal, Pressed, Disabled (never used afaik), Mouseover, Default (also never used). After that, you can add any animation frames for the mouseover state. So, if your animation is 6 frames, for example, the first 5 frames would be the regular button states, and the following 6 would be your animation. I always use

It looks to me like the screenshot features the XP substyle running on Vista. I say that based on the missing explorer navigation arrows, logoff buttons, and the start menu places pane width. I know Tim skinned all that stuff. I'm afraid the screenshot might understate the quality of work here. :)

Thanks a lot, everybody. :) kwyjibo, the reason I don't use dark window backgrounds and light text is because so many applications ignore the skin's text color and use black text anyway. That, of course, would make those windows unreadable. It's a lowest common denominator thing.

I may be misreading this, but I assume "taskbar" means "dock". If that's the case, go to your dock settings and find the Dock Contents page. Check "Display open windows along with my icons", which I assume is already done since they're showing. Then, just below that, find the drop-down labelled "System Tray/Taskbar Placement. Select "Left side of dock" from that menu.

Wow, that's more than a little scary. I just want everyone to know that Mr. Saint and I have never shared a one night stand, or any other number of nights. Considering that tonight is one of the very few I have ever spent away from my wife on a business trip, this particular wise crack was quite poorly timed. By the way, the original ATI skin that screenshot is based on was a colaboration between myself and Hippy. If anyone makes a ménage à trois remark, I'm going to smack you. :
I wish I knew why that little swoosh thing disappears from time to time, but it seems to happen randomly to me. I didn't do anything on purpose to remove it. When I load up Luster now, I see it there. I guess it just happened to be hiding when I made that Luster screenshot. :)
This is caused by the blur setting. By default, it assumes the window frame is shaped like Aero. If you go to the perpixel caption section in SkinStudio6 and look on the Extra Settings tab, you'll see two "Blur rounded edge" settings. You can adjust those to tell WB how rounded your corners are. I'd set them both to about 10, reload the skin, and then tweak it as necessary from there. Also, if your window isn't see-through anyway, you could just disable the blur entirely. :)
It appears I missed the rest of that thread, pictoratus. But I'll answer here. :) The start menu shadow setting is in SKS6. It's on the Extra Settings tab for the start panel user pane. I never set fonts for classic widgets, as they tend to cause more problems than they're worth. I don't believe they are in SKS6, but if they are, I may not have noticed. SkinStudio 6 is still evolving, so once in a while you may think of something that you can't find in there yet
